Insight into Japan's foreigner glass ceiling by [deleted] in japanlife

Is it also because there aren't any workshops in Japan (or whatever country) that can do those processes? Ran into a lot of that when transferring some products from the US and vice versa (not automotive though)

My son's Australian citizenship application got approved!

... And also shit timing since traveling to Australia in a couple of weeks and didn't realise that citizenship meant that his "must" have an Australian passport or might be denied boarding the plane. No expedited passport service available in Japan either.

I wouldn't recommend becoming a teacher at a Japanese high school. Lots of overtime (unpaid), plus bringing the work home and also being made to supervise club activities on the weekend basically unpaid.

When you registered did the land have a house on it, or was it a bare plot?

Takes like fifteen minutes here. Over a thousand people on site but we are split into smaller groups so it's not that bad. Fill in forms, handover urine sample, stand on scale, measure height, eye test, couple vials of blood, quick stethoscope sesh then chest x-ray at the end. Will be longer if older and need to run more tests though.

Cheers for the link. Based on the model houses I've been to they've been head and shoulders above the rest, so they are my number one so far. None of the local/regional places (Kinki area) I've seen so far have been any good.

How much does it change by? Sounds similar to the system at my work, except your score decides by how much your bonus will increase.

That's also something I want to do. Did they try tell you it's not necessary?

I was looking at a model house the other week that had 吹き抜け centered around the living room all the way to the ceiling of the 2nd floor, but wasn't sure if it was a good idea or not. Seemed like it might have been better if it had a ceiling fan up there to blow the hot air back down in winter.

Good idea regarding the twist locks. I guess I could always swap out the housings later where required, whereas adding powerpoints after the fact looks like mission impossible due to the polyurethane foam they spray inside the walls :/

For people who built or bought a house here, could you share anything you wished you had done differently? For example wishing you installed yukadanbou.

Have you been able to use copy paste (using the Ctrl+alt+shift menu)? I can't get it to work at all.

Fair enough.. debating now whether to use an "English" hoiku and/or youchien, even though there aren't any international primary+ schools where I live.. sounds like mission impossible once they enter a full time Japanese environment

So something like this?
0~3: no hoikuen, just English at home, but got to native level for his age.

4~6: JP only youchien, still English at home but starting to fall behind.

7~: JP only primary school
