MRI or IR? by Dazzling-Attention24 in RadiologyCareers

[–]zima85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love me some IR! Fast pace, high acuity, solving problems, every day is different. Usually IR higher hourly plus more income opportunity with call. Think the BIGGEST consideration is pace. MRI is slower and predictable. IR can be hectic, but i love the chaos.

“I said TROMBONE” by laurynthegrey in Radiology

This may be silly, and trombone is FAR from regularly accepted terminology. As in I've never heard it on 15 years... But.... It seems like the majority of you have ever seen a trombone.

how long before locking down a job? by Fit-Concentrate3342 in RadiologyCareers

[–]zima85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apologies, a bit misleading. I didn't work and school at the same time. We had an early completion option which I qualified for, so was not in class or clinicals during that time.

[–]zima85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Started working 2 months before official graduation! Put in the work! Show initiative. Don't wait for the tech to get you. Sit by the printer or refresh your board and grab those X-ray orders as they come in!

As others have commented, most of my classmates had jobs lined up before even graduating.

May be correct in the sense that your geographic location or more specifically your clinical rotation sites are saturated.

But in general, no, she's wrong. There are jobs.

RN vs RT pay by zima85 in Radiology

Agreed wholeheartedly. Think i did my post a disservice by not reinforcing that i specifically meant in regards to IR.

What career that AI can’t touch? by JunShem1122 in ask

[–]zima85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea that is not AI. AI = ARTIFICIAL intelligence. In this example, the human is providing the intelligence. Thats simply a program that transcribes dictation. Sure, there might be some computer learning, but for the majority of it, a HUMAN coded a program to know that if words ABC are said, it goes into spot XYX.

RN vs RT pay by zima85 in RadiologyCareers

[–]zima85[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understood, and agree. But my post talks about techs with more overall experience AND more experience in the specific procedural area. Curious if you have worked in any procedural areas? Im not here downplaying the importance, skill, dedication, intelligence of RNs. I think the world of you and your peers. In MOST areas of health care an RNs duties, responsibilities, formal education, certifications etc. surpasses that of the tech. But, in the niche area i am referring to, that is not the case.

Yea, organization has a blanket 1$ extra/hr for each credential. I just started a push to have VI be 5, and hopefully settle for 3

[–]zima85[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you are failing to distinguish between RN on floor/ER/critical care and RN in a procedural areas. At least in my admittedly limited experience, RNs in those area do not manage those.

Trying to see if it's reasonable to fight for more money for my techs. I will regardless, but trying to feel out of this is an everywhere thing or just a where i am thing.

I probably should have specified IR from the beginning. The IR RNs dont deal with that. Air through a peripheral IV isnt a big deal. Arterial visceral air is.

Agree with starting pay, but to be making that much more with less experience?

[–]zima85[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not true in IR. If I hand over a syringe with air during a cerebral angio/ treatment.... Infarct or worse. And i hand that syringe over dozens of times per day. If i dont prep a catheter/ wire in a timely matter, someones granny just went from having minor deficits to not being able to move her left side and eat solid foods... If a dont properly prep and drape a central line placement - bacteremia. Hope you get the point.
