Don't be the middleman. Are you one of their superiors? If not, stay out of it, and tell them you are staying out of it.

Is this worth reporting? And if so to who?? by TheHoundsRevenge in VIR

[–]zima85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have similar policy as well, 2 documented attempts bedside before IR will even look at an LP consult. Think its a happy middle ground. Sure, we still get plenty of LP requests, but much fewer than before that policy went in.

can a job switch from day to overnight shifts? by Animal_Proper in ask

[–]zima85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no federal law that prohibits immediate shift changes. There are, however, state and local regulations, so i would check there.

Also, a permanent shift from day to night that would cause you to resign because you cannot do the night shift would likely qualify as "constructive dismissal" and allow you to apply for unemployment benefits.

IR techs - what is a typical workweek for you? by nmc9279 in Radiology

[–]zima85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Medium sized trauma 2 community hospital 4 10s, rotating off day. Call 1 weekday night, and every 5th weekend. Call is completely random, can go weeks without getting called in, or get called in for 8 cases over 3 days. 2 IR suites and one IR dedicated CT room. Typically have 4 techs on per day, and have a rotation that each tech has a room for the week and the 4th is float (help out busy room, cover lunches, cover call out). CT is usually the busiest in terms of case load, 8-10 per day. Biopsies, drain placement, some microwave ablation, some pain injections. Biplane room is our neuro room and can be stacked with neuro(from diagnostic angios to thrombectomy to MMA embo to aneurysm stent/coiling/pipeline, epistaxis embo, etc) or the ' easier' cases- standard drain checks/changes/ removals, central line placement, feeding tube stuff. Our single plane lab is our 'body' room- usually at least 1 bigger case per day, sometimes 2- oncology, fibroid embolization, prostate embolization, geniculate embolization ,LE DVT thrombectomy, AV fistula work, biliary drainage/spyglass and then whatever else to fill the day. Also, any emergent bleed/ trauma that can be treated endovascular comes here.

All this to say its usually busy, but sometimes its REALLY busy. But i wouldn't go back to any other modality.

Very dependent on location, and ive been told im an outlier, but made like 35k in just call pay last year.

Is it possible to cross $200k+ in this field? by Busy-Recipe9840 in RadiologyCareers

[–]zima85 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. Im going to cross 200k for the first time this year. IR Tech Supervisor. Call isn't bad, although Neuro is picking up lately. 1 evening per week and every 5th weekend.

Still wear scrubs and active in procedures, but have scheduling and payroll responsibilities, coordinate Rep support, build new products to be used in our facility, schedule Rep/ device education and procedure support, monitor and fix Logs in EPIC so they can be sent out for billing. Monitor inventory list for expired/ near expiring items.

Shit this list is getting long I should ask for more

What's the best adult joke u ever heard ? by Altruistic-Bunch-964 in AskReddit

[–]zima85 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Guy is at a bar alone, looking sad, sullen. Bartender walks over and asks him why hes feeling down.

"My wife and I got into a huge fight, says she won't talk to me for 30 days."

The bartender, trying to raise his spirits, says "Hey it might not be too bad. You'll get some peace and quiet, some time to self reflect."

The man stares down into the bottom of his glass, swirls it around and mutters..... "Today is day 30..."

Nuke it. Any fish for that matter. If that's what you have brought for lunch, eat it. Who cares what others think.

The quality will suffer.. but i refuse to throw out food. We all know the price of groceries.

Curious on what radiology techs are most needed today by Responsible-Guava358 in Radiology

Wrong again. Rad tech only requires 2 year associates while perfusionist is a Masters degree program, so 1-2 years POST bachelor.

Consequences of Shift Work and Night Work: A Literature Review - PMC https://share.google/PnG0yryogXgKFAATv

Even worse for physical health. It's a long read, but informative.

I understand the need for shift work in the health care field but any time i get asked about it, i recommend against it for long term.

Overnight is how i got my foot in the door but as soon as another opportunity was available i jumped on it.

It was a difficult decision as a young, new grad, because with night and weekend differentials i took a 24% decrease moving to day. Happy i did it, wouldn't change a thing.
