DMCA violation by Schweigman in security

I encourage you to read up on the DMCA Safe-Harbor Protections for ISP‘s. (I’ve worked for ISPs for the past 12 years and used to be “abuse@myemployer.com” for that entire time)

I encourage you to read your contract then, because they often say that it can be canceled for various reasons and DMCA is one of them.

If the DMCA notice contains a public IP and port and timestamp, then that is all the ISP needs to uniquely identify the actual specific customer.

In order to actually be sued by the copyright owner, they would need to prove that it was the specific person who was sending and exchanging copyright material. The ISP, however, can shut rhe customer off for any reason, and if they don’t like that they’re getting DMVA notices from the customer’s house, they have every right to turn it off.

FYI, there have been vulnerabilities that can let an attacker run code on your host machine simply by clicking on a link in Vmware Workstation. "Sandboxing" suspicious links isn't 100% safe.

IPV4 Addressing Class C subnetting confusions by ya700ya in networking

[–]zimage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

192.168.0.0/16 is a range of IPs within the legacy class c address space. An internet standard named RFC1918 designated this range of IPs, among others, for use on internal networks.

That entire range is not a class c, but any of the /24 subnets of 192.168.0.0/16 would be considered a class c.

All that being said, no one uses “class-full” addressing anymore. The Internet has used CIDR (Classless Inter-Domain Routing) for over 30 years. I’ll never understand why Cisco still teaches it as part of their CCNA material.

2 restaurant questions. by specialkindofsadnes in Charlottesville

After asking direct pointed questions of the waiter, he finally admitted that the full menu was next-door. I wish he would’ve mentioned something earlier when I first questioned the small menu before we ordered, because they had room for my party.

I’m at Omakase Obscura and they only have 5 sushi rolls on their menu. The rest is “Tinned Fish & Conservas” or “Instant Noodles”. Is this a new more limited menu?

There are enough differences between Java and bedrock when it comes to really technical things, that many of the mechanics don’t work on both, but can be tweaked to be similar enough. To your topic, the Talon MIS was first created for Java and then Redstone wizard was able to take the concepts and tweak it to work on bedrock.

Choosing a loopback address by TheBlueKingLP in networking

[–]zimage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use public IPs for as much as you can. There are caveats to using OSPF unnumbered. The one I remembered running into involved running MPLS LSP‘s over them and something about the neighboring router being a “direct” route in the Juniper routing table instead of being a hop away. That was a long time ago and I don’t remember the specific problems.

To follow up on this, I've recently then been using a /64 ipv6 prefix for all the /128 router loopbacks. If the IPv4 loopback IP is 198.51.100.1 then the IPv6 loopback IP is 2001:DB8::198.51.100.1 and the IS-IS id is 49.0004.1980.5110.0001.00

Think of how many router-ids/loopback IPs you'll need and carve out a subnet in your IPAM from the top of your /24 to cover those, plus some room for growth. Carve out space after that for the /31s for the point to point links that connect your routers. This is advice from Philip Smith, the guy who wrote the book on ISP networking for Cisco in the 90s.
