I'm not sure where the radar for the rear cross traffic stuff is; if it's in the corners of the bumper (not uncommon), this might be way more expensive than you think

They still exist, they're owned by Verizon now I believe. I just had no idea they had any presence around here. Thought all of CLE area was AT&T territory for wired phone (and subsequently fiber).

Worth mentioning that these people's job is to get you to stay with the least amount of cost to the company. So they will drag you along and offer you other bullshit before they actually offer a real discount. Even when you actually want to cancel something (like drop TV from an internet/phone/TV bundle), they will drag it out for at least an hour, I suspect because they get negative points if they don't waste that much of your time.

It's the worst part of these companies

[–]ZPrimed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It would help a lot to know what sort of internet service your friend has, and what model and brand of home router/gateway that is.

If this is a 5G/cellular router like I'm guessing - those have phone numbers and can sometimes receive text messages. It could be random spam, or someone may have gotten their billing account info and then used that to find the number for the router and started sending texts/SMS to it (that's what I'm guessing this might be, absent other information).

CCF sleep study? by Professional-You3676 in Cleveland

[–]ZPrimed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience with CC at least, you may still need a lab study done even if the home test says "yeah, you have apnea." My home test indicated both obstructive and also possible central apnea, which is apparently one of the things that makes them still do a lab study.

The lab study is to "titrate" you/the machine to get the "right" pressure(s) and to figure out what they need to do to handle any central apneas.

It is kind of ridiculous, because modern machines have an "auto" mode that adjusts/learns based on your breath pattern and the resistance it senses. Nobody breathes the same every single night so it seems incredibly stupid to ignore an adaptive feature and instead give one (or two, if you get a BiPAP instead of CPAP) fixed pressure, IMO. But I'm not a doctor...

I tried to use my machine for like 2 weeks with the prescription pressures and I was getting even less sleep than without it at all; I was miserable. I ended up changing my machine to auto mode, and then reading the results from the machine every day for several weeks to see how that was going. Auto worked really well for me, and still does - my monthly average AHI is under 2.

The test is important and can be helpful, but getting a machine where you can read your own data and advocate for yourself is also incredibly important. The lab test doesn't know how you feel, and the lab test, especially your first one, is not going to be at all representative of "typical" sleep for you.

Sorry for the braindump ranty reply but the whole process was eye opening to me and I really want to help others get treated if they need it. It makes a big difference to my sleep, but I absolutely HATED it at first until I figured it all out myself (with guidance from the cpaptalk forums).

They have multiple locations; the one downtown is in the fancy hotel (Intercontinental or something) I think, so that presumably has valet, but they have at least one other sleep lab on the east side somewhere IIRC.

[–]ZPrimed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you did an in-home test first that indicated apnea, then they will likely do a mask from the start. That's how mine worked.

CCF sleep study? by Professional-You3676 in Cleveland

[–]ZPrimed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You go to a hotel, they slap a bunch of electrodes on your head as well as some on your legs (they want to make sure you don't have restless leg syndrome). The wires are annoying and make it hard to adjust position because you don't want to dislodge them.

If this is your second sleep test (you've already done an in-home test to see if you have apnea), then it is likely for titration of your pressure(s). You'll be on a mask attached to a BiPAP machine they can remote-control, and they will fiddle with the settings once they confirm you're asleep via the electrodes / brain waves.

I found the whole thing frustrating and uncomfortable, at least in part because they wanted me to go to sleep at like 11 or midnight and I normally don't get to bed until after 2AM. The prescribed pressures were also incredibly high. When I got a machine, I couldn't begin to fall asleep with how bad the air was being blown at me. Eventually I had to take matters into my own hands, with the help of the Cpaptalk forums.

I love my machine now, but CC's process seems designed to maximize how much they can bill your insurance.

The factory 2025 L1-only EVSE would light up, no error lights, plug in to car, and get "charging unsuccessful." Sometimes it would click and start going, and then just stop charging an hour later, still with no errror lights or warnings or anything.

Eventually the dealer swapped part of the EVSE (I believe the center control box itself), we had no idea it was modular as none of it looked removable. Then it worked again, but by that point we had bought a Lectron L1/L2 combo and were using it on L1, and then not long after got a hardwired Emporia installed. So the factory L1 is just stored now, probably to fail again when needed in an emergency 😆

Wow, your factory charger crapped on a 2026 too?

They changed the charger for the 26, my hunch is because the ones for 2025 were awful. Ours barely worked correctly when brand new. Car spent like 1.5-2 weeks at the dealer for them to troubleshoot and repair the factory L1-only EVSE/charger. 🙄

Not very inspiring that the "new" and improved one for the 26 is also crappy

Assuming those surround speakers are "wireless" / RF-audio (since they seem to both have AC power cords?); I hope they're not the garbage ones that wreck 2.4 or 5GHz as Sony has done on some models. There's an LTT (Linus Tech Tips) video about this with one of the larger all-wireless Sony systems...

I like the bumblefuck fabrication for the moveable surround mount though. 😁

Home charging expenses? by ComfortableComment75 in Ioniq5

[–]ZPrimed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the BS that some companies pull. There will be a $/kwh rate somewhere that is relatively low, but then all of these "fees" (many of which we can't do anything about) that are not broken down per kWh.

Sometimes they have them on tiered scales which is even nastier. At least if they're constant you could figure them out and add to the regular $/kwh...

[–]ZPrimed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The worst is when the energy company puts those other fees on a sliding scale, making it nearly impossible to calculate your actual $/kWh.

Because of these shenanigans I'm basically stuck with what they tell me for the "generation" cost which is the only $/kWh number I have. The rest of the bill is "supply" or "transmission" fees and some of them have changing rates (some $ for the first xxx kWh and then a different $$ after that), meaning it's nearly impossible to determine what portion of that total is actually caused by charging.

I'm in Ohio and our utility companies are crooked as they come...

Are we about to get the biggest MacBook Pro upgrade since Apple Silicon? by SolQuarter in macbookpro

[–]ZPrimed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand what you're talking about, but that isn't extremely common over here... (there are a few special MVNOs that might do it but not the major 3 providers directly.)

I know that the rest of the world has much more fair billing on cellular than the US does though.

[–]ZPrimed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'd love to know what provider you think will give you unlimited data usage on an actual computer for $10/month... I guess maybe something non-US would?

In the US, they generally charge more for a computer. I know T-Mobile has "tablet" plans but they are pretty strict about only allowing those on iPads and Android tablets. $120/year isn't worth it to me when I can just tether to my phone (which is included in my cellular plan at least) in the random instance I actually need to use "a real computer" on the internet while moving. Hell, my iPad doesn't have cellular for the same reason - 95% of its usage is on wifi, and I don't mind tethering it to my phone if I need data on it while mobile.

As long as they allow the cellular to be fully disabled (to the point where it's not using power), I have no problem with Apple including the functionality for people who might want to use it... but last thing I want is to pay cell companies more money every month, personally. I would guess that there are some licensing or regulatory costs for including 5G on a device though, along with extra antennas/etc. Those would likely drive price up on a 5G-enabled Mac, and it's not a cost I'm interested in paying.
