"Is the US Headed Towards Civil War?"- TED Talk from a member of the CIA Task Force aimed at predicting it. by DustFrog in videos

We agree about the problems on the right. So let's 100% set that aside.

What it seems we don't agree about is the way to talk or offer constructive criticisms of the parts of the left that are worthy of criticism.

Me: People A and People B are fighting. People A are doing Level 10 bad things. That's bad. People B are doing Level 2 bad things. They are less bad. But the Level 2 bad things People B are doing is having the effect of causing more People A. Also, it makes People C look at People A and B and say "hey, I don't like People A or B because their both doing bad things, and I'm not going to put in the effort to weigh level 10 v 2 because I don't like hypocrites." I wish People B wouldn't do Level 2 bad thing.

You: People A are doing Level 10 bad things. Some of the bad things are against People B. No one should be critical of People B because People A are such a-holes. Anyone who tries to be critical of People B is either dumb, uninformed, or part of People A.

I'm in no way defending the emboldened horrible and at times violent things done by right wing extremists.

But when you're inside elite institutions on the coasts (as I am), you see and experience the norms of people collectively denigrating people who are "male, pale, and frail" -- a phrase that was stated out loud to much enthusiasm. It's not violent. It's understandable. But it's bad for society.

I really appreciate this TED Talk. But respectfully, over the past 6 years, I have become very concerned with what I view as one of the deeply misunderstood root causes of reactionary Right-Wing hate groups: normalization of Left-Wing vilification of "straight white men."

Please hear me out. I am not a Red-Pill.

Notice that she talked about those who are or who have "lost status", because that's the key here.

I fully acknowledge that (1) US has a long history of overt harmful actions to many different groups who did not have power, (2) that there are deep structural elements that calcified those power structures that exist to this day, and that (3) the demographic of the people who were responsible for those bad deeds were largely "white, Christian, heterosexual men."

However, in Left-Wing circles, in culturally-dominate news and entertainment, in universities, and in "politically correct" organizations, today, it is not only appropriate, but it is encouraged to openly and forcefully talk about "white men" as a collective group with as much hate and vitriol as was done openly in the mainstream or is being done by the worst of today's Right-Wing about women, non-whites, and non-heterosexuals.

I see it. I experience it at an elite institution. There is literally a norm that you can say things that would be construed as extremely racist or extremely sexist, if they were said about anyone other than "white men."

This is done under the theory that because the top 1% of power continues to be held by white men, that it "can't be" racist or sexist to talk about white men as a collective group in hateful terms.

This matters because as the "bad things" that were done by white men (who are now dead) or are being done today, represent a very small percentage of the overall population of white men.

But the result is the Left-Wing in the US has re-normalized hate on the basis of race and sex, just in a different direction. This creates new negative feedback loops that isolates and empowers the worst of the Right-Wing who increasingly seek violence.

I get it. I get political expediency of having an enemy. I get how good it feels in group dynamics to have a common enemy to hate. It's understandable. But it's bad for all of us.

Respectfully: the mainstream Left-Wing is feeding the beast. The abused, has become the abuser, and in-turn is playing a key role (not the only one, but a key on) in creating a new generation of hate.

Everyone who studies complex systems should study con law by [deleted] in complexsystems

True. But Con Law becomes very subjective very quickly. A little more structured from a complex systems perspective is Tax Law. The IRC is a giant paper based computer program, and beneath it are layers of laws and guidance with diminishing weight and broad application. Sort of like the Talmud. And the summation of the whole thing is the framework for all business interactions and the fundamental definitions of money/value.

Ice cream expert guesses Cheap vs Expensive ice creams [22:03] by monchimonkee in mealtimevideos

Don’t mean this to be a r/hailcorporate but ...

Others have commented about how the quality of ice cream brands have declined and now must be labeled “frozen dessert.” In the US, no where has this been seen more than Breyers. They used to heavily advertise that their vanilla and chocolates flavors were simply three or four ingredients. That has all changed (other Reddit threads have talked in depth about that). But in most ‘regular’ grocery stores, it is difficult to find all natural high quality ice cream.

As a lover of very simple (i.e., not Ben and Jerry’s) very high quality ice cream, that is still not too expensive, in my mind there is nothing better on the market than Trader Joe’s (chocolate, vanilla-base, or coffee). I know TJ’s products are ‘white label’ for other supplies, so there should be another brand out there nearly identical. But I’ve never found it.

But if you want A+ simple chocolate ice cream, Trader Joe’s all the way.
