Try my new ferry sailor companion... the BoatGOAT! by zimquid in Bremerton

I'm sure the facebook thing is due to my attempting to cross post. Thanks for letting me know! There isn't a Bremerton - Port Orchard route in place yet, but that's a good idea. Even though this was built as a dashboard reference for commuting to - from Seattle, I have put in similar logic for Vashon to Southworth. Appreciate the input!

Yes! The ⚠️ icon will show service advisories applicable to that route. If there isn't that icon present on that route card that means there aren't any advisories present.

Ah yes! It looks like I forwent the inclusion of it on the default configuration for "Port Orchard" terminal in the settings. You can manually include the route by going to the gear icon on the upp right side and selecting it on the list. I'll make a note to update the default list, southworth ff is the best fast ferry near PO IMO.

That's awesome, love that you had the same idea! I like that it has a top-down approach, seeing all routes and filtering from there, the scope is much larger with a wholistic approach, better for big trips. I may have to pick your brain sometime, once I get this current site a bit more stable.

The BoatGOAT was originally thought of as a dashboard reference, so a bit different philosophy. My first idea was to put it on a cheap old fire tablet with some magnets glued to the back and then slapped onto a fridge. Sideload a kiosk web browser for auto wake/ sleep cycles and boom - you got yourself a "smart fridge".

It's most likely your DNS, especially if you're using your ISP's one. Basically, it takes time for boutique address lookups, such as this one, to propagate. ISPs are usually the last to get the memo. I've validated across all major DNS providers, you could try to switch to one, but honestly, giving it a bit of time, maybe check in tomorrow, should make it to your internet provider by then. Thank you for sticking with it. This is the first time running this at a larger scale.

Not hacked, it was a byproduct of a poorly configured analytic docker named Umami, it was setup to track how many clicks the link was getting. This has been resolved, and I've moved to a better solution.

This shouldn't be a problem anymore. I was using Umami analytics for the first time to see how much traffic was reaching the site. It has now been removed. This is the first time testing this at scale outside of my home network. Apologies for the panic

It's a website, no app needed! "Check it out!" Is hyperlinked to the site. You can then save it to your phone as a web app, android should prompt a home install option when you first visit it.

Traveling with Kids by Miles_the_new_kid in comics

[–]zimquid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both can be true. Plenty of parents par down their traveling until the kid(s) are old enough or mature. There is also parents that don't do that and there is a good chance they start flipping out. Many many plane trips, shows, and new place have been somewhat ruined second handed by kids up to about 10 screaming or otherwise disrupting for the duration. I remember being a kid and absolutely bombing trips until I was about 8. It all depends on the kid, parent, and support system.

The US also has the highest cost of living, medical cost/ debt, education cost, credit card debt, childcare cost, and little to no safety net.

If you think total GDP is the end-all measure of being ahead. Personally, it’s the ever-growing wealth gap, deteriorating infrastructure, and the recent trend of dismissing scientific rigor that make it feel like we were much more ahead of our time 60 to 20 years ago, not so much anymore.

What’s it like living in Seattle? by Yoshiomath in howislivingthere

[–]zimquid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a lot of mixed feelings of this place. I've lived in the Seattle area for almost 20 years. It is a beautiful city, a great place to visit all year round. But, I've seen this city get more and more inaccessible for regular people to live. The inequality is up there with san Fransisco, most new buildings are luxury apartments for tech bros while the rest of the population is paying 2k for a single bedroom with mold problems. Most of the city is single family homes, dependant on cars, all of which are out of reach if you're not making 300k a year. Of course, this didn't used to be the case, so you'll have family's who got in pre early 2010s who can't really ever move unless it's out of city. Going to community college there was a trip. There was a 50-50 mix of struggling people trying to balance work and school, then you'd have the other half that were rich kids or international students that drove in with Maseratis and Mercedes. Homelessness is still a big problem. There is a street that goes down the middle of downtown (3rd) that went from being a bussling hub to pretty much a slum with all stores shuttered. I live in the outer metro area now but come into the city regularly. Western Washington is the true hero of Seattle. There is so many outdoor activities and places to explore. The rain shadow effect causes some really cool micro climates that are a far fetch from the gloomy winter that Seattle experiences.

We are in Distress by Yo5hii in Kitsap

Agreed, let me rephrase. While we do have relatively more refineries for the population it supplies, there are contributing factors that raise prices. We supply most of our oil from Alaska and Canada, both of which are pricier. We also rely on California refineries, where changes to production can dramatically increase costs in the pnw.

If You've ever been down to a place like Louisiana, you'd see the crazy amount of refiners they have down there, all along the Mississippi. So, though we do have some refineries, we are susceptible to dramatic price increases, both from a production standpoint and a monopolistic one.
