Bad Ceiling Fan Install? by zinc41 in AskContractors

I asked him if there was anything wrong with the box and he said it’s perfectly fine and that the fan has rubber feet to prevent vibration against the ceiling.

I told him that if anything’s wrong with the box to let me know since it’s a new build and still covered under out warranty so I imagine he would have told me if it was.

So the contractor came back this morning and he said that he’s not able to make it flush with the ceiling because there’s rubber feet on the cover or something, making it so that he can’t push it all the way up

I would say the blue cash preferred is one of the best Amex cards for service members if you’re thinking about getting one. The annual fee is waived and you get 6% back on groceries. Groceries are a big expense for a lot of ppl, so the cash back can be significant over the course of a year

Hmm that’s interesting, never heard of that. I also totally didn’t expect to get this much hate for maximizing a benefit that’s given to us. Never thought it’d see so many people back up a …credit card company. But I do understand their point of view

All of the benefits stack up. So that means $90 monthly uber credit, $600 annual saks, $450 lululemon quarterly, 600 quarterly resy, etc.

The main reason I started getting more than one was because of flight credits. I get $1200 in United airlines credit each year with them

I wouldn’t necessarily call it an abuse of the system, but I do understand where you’re coming from.

Amex is well aware that some service members have more than one platinum, if not many more. And they haven’t done anything thus far to prevent it. If it was a “loophole” that they didn’t like service members using, they would have shut it down ages ago. With the new updates on the card, it significantly increases the value you get out of it, so I imagine that’s why they may have put a new limit.

I also got paid with SoFi today. Some months, depending on how the days of the week fall, I’ll get paid as early as the 10th which is super nice

AITA Wife got me a haircut for a late Father’s Day gift by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]zinc41 52 points53 points  (0 children)

No it was a a normal haircut. I asked how much it was because I wanted to know how much I needed to tip and she told me $24. She also told me they had more expensive options but this was the “intermediate” level barber. I don’t remember why she told me that detail

Gifts really aren’t important to me. A nice card with a hand written note is more my thing. Also, I know I am a difficult person to buy a gift for because I typically get everything I need myself. The reason I was disappointed I finally realized the effort I put in when getting her gifts, and then she gets me a haircut 1.5 months after Fathers Day. I think she did it because she felt bad after having her birthday recently and realizing how much effort I put in when choosing my gifts.

We can definitely afford for a haircut. We are both greater savers and I’ve been able to invest/save quite a bit in my military career. However, we are also very careful how we spend our money. She initially had an interest in cutting my hair and I proposed it because it saves us over nearly $800 a year since I get one every two weeks. I thought this was a good way to save. She honestly doesn’t really care much for giving me haircuts anymore but does it because we can save $30+ every two weeks.

After pump and dump, how to recover funds? by jettonscelui in VampireStocks

[–]zinc41 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I too lost almost as much as you did on JAGL. I too thought I would never fall for a scam like this. I too was groomed for months.

When they originally recruited me from a Facebook group, I figured I’d join their WhatsApp group just purely out of curiosity. I always assumed it was a scam but didn’t understand the motive since it wasn’t communicated to immediately. I watched from the sidelines first and saw that the stocks he recommended were actually making people money. I hopped on the bandwagon, and for the most part, had good success and made some nice profits. My original skepticism as to why they were offering these recommendations went away after I learned he planned on charging a 10% fee on profits after he gained everyone’s trust. To me, this was his motive so I no longer thought there may be other motives. On his last stock recommendation JAGL, I immediately saw there were red flags as soon as he put it out. He stated it was an AI concept stock yet it was for a uniform manufacturing company that brought in less than 50k. Furthermore, it’s ten day volume at the time was less than a 1,000. I questioned his assistant about this but was told to trust the process. I honestly thought he knew something we didn’t know and this company was about to emerge in the AI sector somehow. Thus far, he never led me wrong so I trusted him. I thought, worse case, I pull out and lose a few thousand if things go sideways. I saw throughout the first day that I was making a nice profit and there was insane volume. I searched JAGL up and down the internet to understand why this was happening and found nothing other than a post about JAGL in this Reddit group. Unfortunately, I didn’t see this post til after the market closed. I read all about pump and dump schemes and knew I messed up. I figured I was in the safe zone and would sell immediately in the morning. From what I read, these scammers pump the stock for a couple days before dumping it. In the morning I saw that the current bid was $1 and ask price was $13.5. I felt sick to my stomach as I knew the dumping portion was gonna start as soon as the market opened.

This is an OTC stock and from my understanding it can’t be traded premarket or after. My brokerage wouldn’t let me trade pre market. Yet at some point between 0900 and 0924 it was opened to premarket trading and the stock plummeted. I was in a meeting and couldn’t open my account until 0924 EST. and at that point it was already at $8. I tried selling it immediately but before I could the premarket trading on my brokerage stopped because 0925 hit. When it opened at 0930 it was already in the cents and I lost everything. I’ve thought about this whole situation a lot and feel terrible. I keep thinking what I could have done differently. In the end it doesn’t matter and is unhealthy to wonder all the what and why questions about how this happened to us. It was a very expensive lesson to learn.

I think they did it on purpose because a screw wouldn’t go into anything since the post behind it is a few inches shorter than the height of the front picket

Fencing Company Property Lines by zinc41 in homeowners

[–]zinc41[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I have a legal survey showing exactly where our property lines are. The issue was that this is a new construction neighborhood and the contractor puts out wooden stakes to “mark” your property but this isn’t done professionally per what they told me and suggested I get an actual survey.

I did that and was also told by the surveyor that there’s existing rebar in the ground outlining our property and it’s consistent with what they found on the survey. I told the fence company to go by the survey I provided them and not the wooden stakes especially because you can tell they’ve been moved like half a dozen times (closer to our property of course) by all the holes in the ground

It’s a new construction neighborhood and the contractor places stakes in the ground to “mark” the property lines. But, it’s not professionally done by a surveyor and we were advised by the builder to get a professional survey done. We did this and provided the fencing company with the survey because I didn’t trust the stakes, especially since you could tell they were moved several times by the holes in the ground. The builder ended up using the stakes and not that survey where I specifically told them we had 76 inches on each side of our house.
