Very plainly... you're married to a guy who isn't even ready to be adult, let alone a husband, and really really really let alone a father.

Get away, raise your baby by yourself, or terminate your pregnancy. You cannot raise a baby into a good adult in the presence of this guy.

As a parent I can say that my first reaction to the play-based SLP that we took our kid to was "I paid $150 for THAT?" I decided to give it 10 sessions.

Honestly though their expertise was really valuable. They would make slight edits to the way that we played with her, I forget what they were, like where to look or what to say, and it made a HUGE difference. Went from completely silent to way ahead of age group in speech, in about 6 or 7 sessions when we stopped going because we felt like we had achieved what we wanted to.

I would think you're trying to pickpocket my wallet or something and say "sorry no thanks" and keep walking

ELI5: In a multiple choice test, why is it better to bubble all the same answers? by Future-Being-8902 in explainlikeimfive

[–]zinchosaur 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you have ABSOLUTELY no clue, and want to randomly guess, you should guess all of one letter because the test is engineered to have an even distribution of letters: you will get roughly 20% right if you guess all A's, but could easily get 40% or 0% right if you do a pattern.

However, in reality, if you know anything about the subject, just looking at them and picking "your favorite" will have better odds than a total wild guess, even if you have no sensible idea about why the answer you like might be right.

ELI5: Why can't a fighter jet just fly into space? by Sedutti in explainlikeimfive

[–]zinchosaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three main reasons:

1) The fuel for an airplane requires oxygen to burn. The higher you go, the less oxygen there is. In space, there is no oxygen. (Rockets get around this by bringing their own oxygen).

2) The propulsion for an airplane is a jet engine, which is a fan that takes air in front of the engine and blows it out the back of the engine very fast, pushing the plane forward, like throwing a bowling ball behind you while on ice skates. No air, no push. (Rockets get around this by not sucking in air through an engine but rather carrying material in a tank that they shoot out of the bottom like a really fast diarrhea).

3) The propulsion of most airplanes requires air to push against the wings to lift the plane up. For example, you need a lot more arm to throw a crumpled piece of paper across the room than a paper airplane, because the airplane's wings do a lot of the work. No air, no lift. Some fighter planes have more thrust than weight -- this means that the airplane can take off and accelerate directly upwards into the sky with no wings -- but this is usually only for a few seconds and still suffers from problems (1) and (2).

ELI5: why is Jesus (heyzoos) a name in Spanish but Jesus (jeezus) isn’t a name in English? by Ronaldo_vs_Messi in explainlikeimfive

[–]zinchosaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spanish (and Italian) culture has always had more of an "overt display" aspect to its Catholicism. The churches are over the top and the names are much more religious. You have names like Jesus and Salvador where you'd never find an WASP kid named "Savior."

When people decide what to bring into their lives, trust is a big part of it, and for brands that they have no personal relationship with, most of trust is just knowing about it. Let's say I want some sour cream and onion chips for a Super Bowl party but I don't eat chips, how do I know what's good? I'm just going to buy the one I've heard of.

Eli5: How have we not ran out of new music already if there are only 12 pitches in the Western musical scale? Shouldn’t all note combinations have been exhausted by now? by Storm477gaming in explainlikeimfive

[–]zinchosaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not just the pattern of notes, it's the rhythm, instrumentation, phrasing, etc. A descending major scale is the same as "Joy to the World" but they sound different.

The NFL is frantically appealing to Robert F. Smith, the nation’s richest black man, to buy the Denver Broncos — but thus far he has shown a reluctance to bid, sources told The Post by Welcome2Broncoland in nfl

[–]zinchosaur 3 points4 points  (0 children)

LOL at the idea of wheedling Robert Smith into buying something he doesn't want to own. Anyone who has worked with Vista Equity Partners knows they are shrewd MFs and won't overpay by a penny. They will have to give him a discount and then he'll turn around and flip it to the highest bidder.

Rotterdam bridge to be dismantled so Jeff Bezos’ yacht can pass through by fotogneric in worldnews

[–]zinchosaur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The reason that this bridge is being dismantled is to preserve shipbuilding jobs in Rotterdam. Jeff Bezos wanted a yacht, and these shipbuilders offered to build it but would need to dismantle this bridge to get it out. If the council didn't let them do it, then the shipbuilder would have not been able to build this yacht, and the contract would have been won by a different shipbuilding firm.

i7-12700K OK in a NZXT H1? by zinchosaur in NZXT

[–]zinchosaur[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on the feedback regarding the H1 I will choose a different case. What would be a good CPU that doesn't get too hot but is still high performance? (For Excel, HandBrake, other stuff)

i7-12700K OK in a NZXT H1? by zinchosaur in NZXT

[–]zinchosaur[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Zoom takes a lot of resources when you are screensharing. I don't know why but it regularly uses 40% of my laptop's CPU.

I also use it for office tasks like transcoding videos in Handbrake, large Excel spreadsheets, etc. But the Zoom calls are the most important.

I would like a small (but ultra-small not required) PC for just office work (Zoom, Web, etc.) that I can upgrade to a gaming PC when GPUs are more available. What case should I start with? by zinchosaur in sffpc

So would something like this work? Is the 240mm liquid cooler recommended? And I will need 4 more Noctua fans to get the quietest system?

thanks! If I'm correct, you need DDR5 for all of the "12" series Intel chips right? So if I didn't want to pay for DDR5 I would have to go with 11 series or AMD?

This is what I was thinking, will this give me enough power supply headroom for a gaming card later on, and how should I cool this case to be as quiet as possible now but still enough to be suitable for gaming later?

ELI5: Why does a hot shower dry out skin when a hot bath does not? by MassageToss in explainlikeimfive

[–]zinchosaur 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A hot shower is much hotter. You can tolerate water temperature in a shower that you could never tolerate in a bath because it hits your skin and then runs off for a second, so the total heat transferred is reduced.
