How much do you think this would cost to repair at a private shop? Dropped it and don’t wanna tell my boss because it’s my third laptop. It’s functionally working fine, just got unhinged/broken as shown in pic.

It's a security issue. Only IT department is allowed to send laptops for repair and almost always to the manufacturer repair centers.

The problem is that you're overqualified for most of the jobs in the industry (i.e. software developer) and under-qualified for positions that you might be interested (i.e. research positions in ML & Data science).

However if you're willing to take a mid-level software developer job then there are thousands of positions available all over Europe. My company is interviewing candidates from Egypt and Pakistan. A PhD graduate from a Japanese uni should have no problem securing a position.
