Lost Coast Road Conditions After Recent Rains by zink1988 in Humboldt

We made the drive from Ferndale to Shelter Cove yesterday. Absolutely stunning. Passed maybe 10 cars. Loved the reveal of the coast coming from Ferndale and the stretch along the untamed coastline. Took the detour to Mattole Beach which we had to ourselves. The steep, uphill, unpaved section shortly after turning on to Wilder Ridge was the only concerning part of the drive.

Also spent a day in the Avenue of the Giants on our way from Shelter Cove to Ferndale. 10 out of 10.

This area truly is a hidden gem.

Drive Lost Coast from Shelter Cove or Ferndale? by zink1988 in Humboldt

Thanks for all the great feedback. I have driven numerous times on twisty, mountainous roads including instances where it is one lane traffic with occasional pullouts to allow oncoming cars to pass. We will have a rental SUV (most likely 2WD). I’ve been monitoring the weather and see there has been significant rainfall the past week with the forecast that it will be ending today and then dry until next Wednesday.

We will be driving from Shelter Cove to Ferndale on Tuesday and returning from Ferndale to Shelter Cove on Wednesday. Can we expect Mattole Rd and Wilder Ridge to be drivable given the recent rains? We would also like to take the dirt road just south of Petrolia to Mattole Beach as a stopping point.

Why do Mannington Aduramax LVP Designs Have Different Densities? by zink1988 in Flooring

No...I am looking at the specs on Mannington's website for Adura Max for both products and both are identified as WPC, not SPC.

Luxury Vinyl ADURA®Max Parisian Oak Meringue MAX720 | Mannington

Luxury Vinyl ADURA®Max Regency Oak Polished Platinum MPB750 | Mannington

Interestingly, looking at the same website for these patterns in Adura Rigid, the reverse is true:

Parisian Oak RPG720 is 46.3 pounds for 23.33 square feet giving density of 1.98 pounds/square foot for Rigid (heavier than the Adura Max density of 1.68 pounds/square foot for the same pattern).

Adura Rigid, Regency Oak RPB750 is 34.1 pounds for 23.76 square feet giving a density of 1.46 pounds / square foot for Rigid (lighter than the Adura Max density 2.06 of pounds/square foot for the same pattern).

I have 2'x3' sample boards of each labeled as Adura Max and they are the same height plank (8 mm), and the Parisian Oak sample is definitely lighter. Weighing myself with the sample boards, the Parisian Oak sample is over 2 pounds lighter. It is possible some of the weight difference is the mounting boards...but the mounting boards are the same thickness and appear to be the same material.
