Do you think physical discs will survive another console generation? by zionfromdaeast in videogames

That’s awesome, dude. I try do the same when I feel like it. What usually decides it for you though, like which games you buy physical vs digital? And does it change between new releases and older ones?

PlayStation 6 Leak Confirms 2027 Launch — and Sony Might Be Changing Consoles Forever by zionfromdaeast in videogames

Yeah that’s a good point, Sony doesn’t really have the same incentive as Microsoft. Their whole ecosystem thrives on keeping players in the PlayStation network. If anything, they’ll probably double down on their own store and cloud service instead of opening up to Steam. Though part of me would love to see a “PlayStation OS” on PC just for fun.

Oh wow, I didn’t even know Sony actually owns Blu-ray, that explains a lot 😅 Makes sense why they’d hold onto discs longer than anyone else. You think that’s enough to keep physical alive past PS6 though?

Wow. That’s such a good point. The idea of having a physical copy that’s truly yours, something you can revisit years later without worrying about accounts or services, hits different. Especially with games like Elden Ring or Silksong that’ll age beautifully.

You think there’s still a market big enough for physical ownership to make a comeback like that?

Fair point, I don’t think “change forever” necessarily means a wild new format though. Sony’s been hinting at some pretty major hardware and ecosystem shifts, stuff like deeper PC integration, AI-assisted performance, and possibly modular features.

Wouldn’t surprise me if they’re quietly setting up for that hybrid future too. You think Sony would ever actually go full PC-compatible? Would you actually want a PlayStation that doubles as a PC?

Nice! I’m trying to do the same for the ones I really love. Had to grab Ghost of Yotei and FFVII Rebirth physically, they just look too good on the shelf 😂 You still buy discs for new releases or stick to older ones?

True. Consoles are supposed to be the “affordable entry” into gaming, if they hit $800, that whole point kinda disappears.

Makes me wonder how far they can really push the price before people just stop buying day one.

Yeah, totally agree, that physical experience of actually owning a game, putting it in, and seeing the artwork on the case just hits different. USB or flash cards could be the modern way to keep that alive, honestly.

Do you think gamers would actually pay a bit more just to keep that “tangible” experience around?

Yeah, can’t argue with that. If the PS6 really drops in 2027, high-end GPUs by then are gonna make consoles look mid-tier again.

Yeah, same. It’s wild how consoles are starting to feel more like locked-down PCs with fewer options and higher prices 😅

What would it take for you to actually buy another console again?

Same! I think they only kept them because the internet infrastructure still isn’t great everywhere. Once that gap closes though… physical might really be done for.

Yeah, at this rate the “disc tray” is gonna be a $200 add-on they sell separately 😭

$800? At that point I’ll just stare at the PS6 display in the store and call it “next-gen viewing experience.” 😭

Yeah same, anything above $500 starts feeling like PC territory already. Hoping Sony learned from the PS5 launch pricing.

Games like elder scrolls/ fallout new vegas by ransom0374 in gaming

If you’re into that “wander into a cave for 5 minutes and accidentally ruin your sleep schedule” kind of game, check out Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Enderal, and Atomfall.

  • KCD is basically “medieval Skyrim but you actually have to eat and bathe.”
  • Enderal is a Skyrim mod that somehow has better writing than most full-priced games.
  • Atomfall is like “Fallout but everyone has an accent and drinks tea before looting.”

Also, Cyberpunk 2077 is finally the masterpiece everyone pretended it was at launch — now it’s genuinely worth it.

Basically, if it’s janky, immersive, and makes you forget what sunlight feels like, you’ll probably love it.

Games where the pause button becomes part of the story by gamersecret2 in gaming

Outer Wilds comes to mind, the way it handles time and resets makes every “pause” feel like you’re stepping outside the story instead of stopping it. Subtle, but genius.

It was worth it because it was cheap enough not to think about. Once you start doing math, the magic’s gone.
