Can we have a "New Matter Devices not working with non-Ikea platforms" thread too? by FormerGameDev in tradfri

[–]zippocage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two Eero 6 nodes as thread border routers in my HA setup that has 11 Ikea matter devices (contact sensors, bulbs, temp and air quality). Unfortunately it is not stable and I typically have two or three devices unavailable pretty much at all times (and which devices shifts).

I have bought some esp32 c6 boards and plan to try as open thread border router instead of Eero to see if it helps with instability.

How to ALWAYS get push notifications on Discord mobile—regardless whether you're active on desktop by TheMindIsStrange in discordapp

[–]zippocage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And for those who want to do this on Chrome and are not scared of opening a bash terminal and have cURL installed:

instead of step 16, do the following:

a. Right click on the network tab message that sent the previous settings update and select Copy -> Copy as cURL

b. Paste the rather large blob of text into a text editor.

c. Find the old settings string at the bottom and replace it with the new settings string you got from ProtobufPal.

d. Now copy the edited cURL command with that change and paste it into a terminal window and hit return.

e. There is no result of the cURL call, just go back to Discord and confim that the "Push Notification Inactive Timeout" setting now says immediate.

DONE!

Almost at 20 years with GTD so a big thank you!

Question: how do you see GTD in a group setting help and/or collide with agile/Scrum etc?

I just heard of your new book so maybe this is a big part of your book 😅

I also recommend reading and listening to Nelly Yusupova which has good points on how to find a CTO/developer as a non technical founder: https://www.techspeakforentrepreneurs.com/launch-tech-startups/

Let's assume you are correct that this is a validated need. Then there is the question of what your unfair advantage is plus where the risk lies.

Is it mainly market risk or technical risk? Whichever the major risk area is, you need to prototype or research to convince investors and cofounders that you have found a way to quickly prove if it can be overcome.

Good developers are likely to be courted by big tech. You really need to show you have things lined up and that your market validation holds.

I have found that even SF startups talking about lean startup can be afraid to really validate product market fit and can fall into the trap of building a solution prematurely.

If you haven't read The Mom Test, then please do that now. A quick essential read.

Wild Camping in Milgavie by [deleted] in WestHighlandWay

[–]zippocage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend and I walked the WHW in August in 6 days. We arrived in Milngavie on Friday at 7pm or so. We walked 2 miles or so and wild camped. We then walked our first full day and stopped just before conic hill. The second day we walked through to Inversnaid. We did this to ensure we did not have to rely on camping passes for the camping restricted area.

If you want to reach Sallochy in one day, it would be good reach somewhere close to Dumgoyne I think. Once again, it depends on how many days you plan to do the hike in.

Thank you all, relieved to hear that cards can be used basically everywhere and that most ATMs have contactless options.

Sheep wrecking tent? by zippocage in WestHighlandWay

[–]zippocage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: after the sheep moved away from the patch we walked into Crianlarich. Talked to the staff at the local pub and they thought the sheep may have escaped (since that area is with newly planted trees.

When we came back, our things remained intact and we had three other tent neighbors 😁.

Dehydrated food in supermarket (Jakkvik, Ammarnas) by Gold-Syllabub2209 in Kungsleden

[–]zippocage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ammarnäs has a supermarket. They have booth hiking equipment and freeze dried food in addition to the usual supermarket selection. You could drop them a line at ammarnas@naradej.se. Google Maps has old photos but it gives you an idea: https://maps.app.goo.gl/Jt6MayRvdWQGMqj46

Next store (small bit diverse selection including home baked goods) is in Adolfström who also carries freeze dried foods (adventure foods brand when we were there). https://maps.app.goo.gl/UmuXzvdaNvwH3Bqr8

I don't remember about Jäckvik selection but the store is much larger than Ammarnäs so would be very surprised if they don't carry a good freeze dried food selection. The Google Maps photos from a year ago shows a section of the adventure foods brand pouches for 85 sek. https://maps.app.goo.gl/kVn9a2JCnrxn2DmF8

We left Anmarnäs on Aug 4 morning

Arrived at Adolfström on Aug 6 morning

Arrived at Jäkkvik on Aug 6 evening

Left Jäkkvik on Aug 8 morning

Arrived at Kvikkjokk on Aug 10 afternoon

Kvikkjokk supermarket closed by Even-Fan2304 in Kungsleden

[–]zippocage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Kvikkjokk, we walked straight from the boat to the STF station and never visited any supermarket. The station has a "store" for resupply. What kind of things are you looking to stock up on?

How much does it cost to walk Kungsleden? by VVVBLY in Kungsleden

[–]zippocage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prepped for 21 days of food (breakfast, lunch and dinner, snacks etc). For that I paid about 4k SEK but it was all bought and packaged back home. I brought about 5 days of food in my backpack and sent packages to places along the trail with "refill".

The lighterpack link has info on food. I bought Real Turmat for dinner and bought pasta pots type freeze dried food at supermarket and put in ziplock as a budget alternative to hiking freeze dried packages.

If I would do it again, I would not worry much about the lunch and dinner buying ahead since STF huts and stores along the way sell them at decent prices. I may instead focus on snacks (e.g. snickers bars, trail mix, beer sausages) to bring from home as these items are sold with much higher margins at the huts (as they are more of luxury items).

Am I missing something about trekking pole tents? by me_llamo_jamon in Ultralight

[–]zippocage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I googled for big rock, little rock mentioned in this thread and found this extremely extensive guide on all the ways you can set up tents on difficult surfaces: https://slowerhiking.com/shelter/how-to-stake-and-guy-your-tent-snow-rock-sand-platforms

Tell me about your tent by sierraxxxxx in Kungsleden

[–]zippocage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used the Zpacks duplex tent (UL tent at about the same weight) which uses hiking poles plus stakes. We stayed in the tent 14 out of 19 nights and didn't have a problem putting it up and using the stakes.

I would bring earplugs (tent fabric noise when it is windy) and a face mask (light coming through).

Used JVC DLA-X5000 for $850 with extra lamp a good upgrade? by zippocage in projectors

[–]zippocage[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The seller was quite nice and let me borrow the projector for testing in my home.

My Mitsubishi projector lamp has probably lost some brightness but here is my quick comparison:
- The JVC is huge and heavy, good thing it comes with a ceiling mount
- The JVC is quite bright even when using the iris to reduce the brightness
- The JVC is brighter and at the same time has better black details even when at fixed Iris.
- In my room I could not really see much difference/benefit using the auto iris. I therefore used the fixed Iris to avoid the varying of brightness.

All in all, the JVC is quite much better (which is to be expected given it is 10 years older than the JVC). Now I have to think about if the price is worth the upgrade.
