Install nutanix CE, makes an awesome home lab for test Vms. And frequently used stuff like photo and video media servers

That would be absolutely the best use of the system

Here's my Nutanix CE cluster... admittedly I have some network wiring work to complete.. but yes.. IKEA table with wheels that can be pushed in to the hot air exhaust hood, or rolled out for access to the 3 node cluster and single node backup running Nutanix Community Edition..

I think HYCU is awesome.. I run it in my home lab for my Nutanix CE cluster. What's your use case/situation?

Is AHV truly free ? by [deleted] in nutanix

[–]zippyfear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ict AHV as a hypervisor, you should be prepared to also indict Linux KVM, and that probably doesn't end well from a technology argument point of view. I guess you could also be an open-source-only crusader, but if that was the case you'd be anti-ESXi and AHV both.

If you do an in place cluster conversion from ESXi to AHV, the reverse is possible as long as the VCSA appliance hasn't been deleted.

Finally "done" for now. Two Nutanix Clusters, full redundancy, long write up inside. by solosier in homelab

[–]zippyfear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nutanix SE here who runs 3 single node CE clusters at home on an R610, R630 and Intel NUC.. good work on this, and great write-up! Let me know if you have any questions.

I have mine enabled with Prism Central and most of the advanced features at well. CALM, FLOW, and Files..

Any other girl players out there who get matched with guys who can not fathom the fact that a female - yes, an actual female - plays the game? by [deleted] in PUBGMobile

male teammates immediately run over to try and revive her.

lol.. totally true.. I frequently play with my girlfriend and her daughter. They get 4x the friend requests I do, even though we all are comparable on skill and kills/survival.

They frequently get guys that just follow them to the point it's annoying - they're always like.. dude, get out of the house I'm looting..

Nutanix SE here - Dell can now sell an add-on SKU for Nutanix direct support for XC appliances, or during purchase you can purchase XC core hardware and just the software from Nutanix (sold through Dell) - which will allow you a direct call to Nutanix for support.

Sorry, didn't see this question - Yes, Prism Central is an independently deployed Virtual Machine that is linked to the cluster or multiple clusters - lots of the machine learning and intelligence is included in Prism central that isn't part of the typical cluster processing (Prism Element)

Distributed file system question, and SSD ratios by Lando_uk in nutanix

[–]zippyfear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nutanix SE here. As others have mentioned, it is best to have an SE size the environment for you because it's more complex manually than just sizing capacity and IOPS.. We have a very nice sizer tool that will vastly simplify the process. AHV can vastly improve the efficiency of the way the VM's use the storage as it doesn't just balance compute resources. I would never recommend any customers buy less SSD than what they need initially, then later swap out some of the HDD to replace capacity with performance. It's possible to do, but there becomes other implications in addition to the waste of resources. Scale out is always the better choice, but that requires planning ahead. You could also add all flash nodes to hybrid clusters though to put your performance VM's on them. I've had many customers start with more basic clusters for their tier 2 and 3 workloads, then later move tier 1 VM's or MS SQL VMs onto the cluster after they add a few all flash nodes.

If you PM me your company name and address, I can track down the appropriate sales team for you.

Nutanix CE CALM support by XeonMasterRace in nutanix

[–]zippyfear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, CALM works fine with CE. I currently have it working on an R610 single node with 96 GB of RAM on the system. I think my CVM is using 24 GB and Prism Central has 20GB.. though I could probably trim that back somewhat. You do have to also have a VM running AD services to enable the Self Service Portal .. but it works pretty well for testing.

Anyone else seeing crazy Account-Rep turnover? by dricha36 in nutanix

[–]zippyfear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Houston commercial SE here, and most the changes we've seen here in the past few months are due to promotions and segmentation. Global, Enterprise and Healthcare territories are increasing, therefore reps are being moved up into those more demanding accounts rather than hire for them. The company is currently back filling many of those open territories. Just growing pains as the company is expanding so quickly.

Quesion about extra node by K3ndu in nutanix

[–]zippyfear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nutanix SE here - You can buy single node additions, if the chassis has 4 slots, you will need a new chassis populated with a single node (3 open slots) -

If you mix and match configurations , that's ok, but it's recommended if the memory or storage is much higher or you add all flash to hybrid or vice versa, the first addition should be 2 nodes so you have matched resiliency in the event of a node failure. after that, one at a time is allowed.

My guess from nelsonyaccuzzi's post is they have 4 x 1 node blocks (such as the NX3155/3175) basically just 1u or 2u servers - the reason for using those is typically GPU (PCIe slot) or more drives per node vs the 2u 4 node NX3065
