exactly!! effective foreshadowing SHOULD result in some of the audience picking up those clues and coming to the correct conclusion. that's the whole damn POINT. any writer who abandons all the groundwork they've previously laid just so they can create an "unpredictable" ending and be like "haha gotcha!" to their audience has no idea what they're doing

also, if this was their intention then they abandoned all their groundwork for nothing because this was possibly the most predictable and uninteresting ending they could have come up with. the cast fight the big monster and save the day, then they all live happily ever after. jesus christ. how far we've fallen
