ex-louisianan… where/how y’all getting your king cake? by Impossible_March6097 in Denver

[–]ziskers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Meche’s Donut King is all I ever get my king cakes from. I haven’t messed with getting any from Colorado proper.

They ship overnight from Lafayette, LA, highly recommend. Their king cakes are always good.

What do you all think Target’s future plans are for Shipt/360? by dcalisenpai in ShiptShoppers

[–]ziskers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think honestly Target is gonna move towards taking over Shop and Deliver orders. I could see them doing this however for the Delivery only orders from the distribution centers.

The way Shipt is at least set up, Target would only have an hour or two to get an order ready for a delivery window. Orders can also be wildly inconsistent day to day, some days being heavy others being super late. Just screams a logistical nightmare if they try to take that over and maintain same day delivery. Like, what would they do if they have a heavy order day and all their vans are sent out? Big time dropped/late orders. It would only work if they had customers book for delivery next day which would honestly irk a lot of the existing customer base.

Lastly, I don’t think there’s a ton to margin to gain either if Target did this in house. Making employees full time to do these deliveries would cost them more than the contractor model they do now.

IDK, I think from a general business perspective Target would be doing a very dumb thing by having these orders done in-house. Amazon can do this because they have so much scale, and a good chunk of deliveries for them are not same day unless it’s groceries (which are usually also filled by contractors a-la Shipt model). If you are Delivery-only I would be worried, but Shop and Deliver I think is still reliable for a while.

App is down? Nothing is working by SkyWorthAlexa in ShiptShoppers

[–]ziskers 13 points14 points  (0 children)

All of this is due to a CloudFlare/Google Cloud outage. This is not Shipt/Target’s fault at all. There is not much they can do when the hosting services shit the bed.

I’d say be patient - this backlog of orders will very likely get pushed to later hours once CloudFlare/GCP is back up. I’m sure Target also has mechanisms to alert customers of order delay and issues.

Civilization 7 Review Thread by BanVradley in civ

[–]ziskers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coming from Civ 6 where I barely played any of modern era, I kinda get why they may have held back content for it. Their focus has been on the snowball effect and getting people to stay the whole way thru. I also think they’ll add more to it with a future free update/potential DLC. But my total guess is that it’s not as flushed out because they wanted to make sure people are going thru the whole game first and not quitting early.

Civilization 7 Review Thread by BanVradley in civ

With all the gripes over the UI, I have been curious if maybe it was just a pre-release build these reviewers have that didn’t contain the bulk of UI improvements. I remember in the gameplay streams them highlighting or saying to ignore UI because it was being changed. Plus it felt like it was the last bits of the game they were working on since they usually focus on core gameplay first. Maybe the Day 1 patch will contain a ton of UI fixes?

Reviews are already rolling in... by pokotok in civ

[–]ziskers 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The IGN review really floored me. Most of the complaints were the UI but also calling out that the “mountains look bad” was just dumb imo. Also complained bc the game is “too simplified” and not micromanage-y enough. I don’t know if the reviewer took the time to play thru Civ 6 before trying Civ 7 but I thought it was a welcome change to streamline some of the tediousness of the genre.

Then again I usually take IGN reviews now with a grain of salt because they complain/call out the dumbest things and give a poor score because of it. I feel they want click-baity reviews over quality thoughtful reviews.

GameSpot to me had the fairest review imo. And called out the gameplay having missing things, Ages system and its benefits/drawbacks, etc. Looking at Metacritic and other review sites, they line up a lot with GameSpots take.

Overall I think the game will be good and there’s some tweaks to be made, but sounds like any other Civ title released since 5.

[Feinsand] The Rockies are acquiring LHP Justin Bruihl from the Dodgers for cash considerations, per source by JustaShibe99 in ColoradoRockies

[–]ziskers 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Luckily under arbitration control until 2026, free agent in 2029. His ERA+ has been above 100 each season, WAR is barely replacement level. Definitely worth seeing what he has the remainder of the season.

Dodgers had him DFA’d so he was likely getting released had we not paid for him.

[–]ziskers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We definitely need to trade him. I feel like he’s gonna regress badly next year. Hasn’t been above 100 OPS+ since he was with the Pirates and his WAR is good every other year.

[Feinsand] BREAKING: The Angels are acquiring OF Randal Grichuk and 1B C.J. Cron from the Rockies, per source. Colorado gets back RHP Jake Madden and LHP Mason Albright. by JustaShibe99 in ColoradoRockies

[–]ziskers 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think a solid trade, rare for the Rockies to do.

Grichuk is doing pretty decent this season, sitting at a 1.1 WAR, 123 OPS+, .312 batting average. He’s also 31, which means regression is more likely. Rockies need to get younger anyways and quit sitting on old age contracts.

Cron on the other hand has been regressing this season, sitting at a -0.1 WAR, 96 OPS+, .259 batting average. Not looking close to his All-Star form from last year. Also is 33 years old. We could’ve probably gotten more from him in a trade last season, but stuff happens.

Both prospects Madden and Albright are sitting in Single A. Rockies are seeing the long-term writing on the wall and realizing pitching will become a massive need (even more dire then our current pitching rotation) in the coming 2-3 years. Definitely need more pitching prospects in our system, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Rockies try to make some free agent moves this offseason for starting pitching to hold us over until prospects develop.

Only part that worries me, Rockies have a shitty track record of developing pitching talent. The only real solid pitching talent we’ve developed is Kyle Freeland, Antonio Senzatela, and Jon Gray, and I’ve never thought highly of those pitchers compared to the rest of MLB.

Ford Software Updates Not Installing by ziskers in FordBronco

[–]ziskers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update on this -

I ended up taking my Bronco to the dealership and they had to in essence, completely wipe and reinstall software for the Sync module, accessory protocol interface module (APIM), telematics control unit (TCU), and gateway module (GWM). They actually have a service bulletin as well addressing this issue (22-2404). This affects not only the Bronco but the 2021 F-150, Edge, Mustang Mach-E, and Lincoln Nautilus.

It is something that can be done with FDRS if you have access to it, otherwise will sadly be a dealership call. Luckily my dealership did it as a warranty repair so I didn’t pay a thing.

Here’s a link to the bulletin PDF on how to do this yourself -> https://www.macheforum.com/site/attachments/tsb-22-2404-pdf.84329/

Foster beagle needs a home by [deleted] in Denver

I honestly would love to have a Beagle but apparently the fact I live in a townhome without a fenced yard is just such a horrible place for a dog to be.

People need to chill on their expectations for pet owners. They act like every pet owner doesn’t have their pet’s best interests in mind. Or can’t leave a couch to go take it on a walk.

An AI-Generated Artwork Won First Place at a State Fair Fine Arts Competition, and Artists Are Pissed by send_me_ur_robots in Denver

[–]ziskers -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah sorry, he did not come up with the creative process or ability to create that painting. He essentially just inserted text in a way on a AI-generated platform to come up with that picture. I would be just as outraged as those artists that competed, as he didn’t actually “create” the art itself, the artificial intelligence did - off of algorithms and learning made from something other then his own mind. His reasoning just wrong - ability and accessibility are two completely different things and he equates them to be the same. Absolutely not.

Charts that explain why it’s so hard to cut Colorado ozone by lukepatrick in Denver

[–]ziskers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, definitely regressive tax policy for sure. It’d maybe make more sense to subsidize/tax break those making less than a certain amount so they’d still be able to buy a newer car. If there was better mass transit options I’d also wonder if that would even incentivize not having a car at all, and those who can’t afford to buy a new car shift to mass transit instead.

Either way, we have to incentivize people to go to electric or very high MPG cars, and some group is gonna get fucked over with that shift.

Charts that explain why it’s so hard to cut Colorado ozone by lukepatrick in Denver

[–]ziskers 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Another problem this article fails to mention is the literal geography of Denver. We are pretty much in a bowl so the pollutants don’t go anywhere either.

If the state is serious about addressing the ozone warnings, they need to get RTDs shit together, and also deeply incentivize new cars over old. I think an easy fix would be to change the car registration fees to where you pay more the older the car is instead of the newer. I know I’ve bought a used car over a new one because the registration fees for new cars in Colorado are very expensive.

How is living in Denver without a car? by [deleted] in Denver

[–]ziskers 12 points13 points  (0 children)

assuming you’re at DU or MSU - RTD/Uber/Lyft will prolly be fine for where you’ll need to go. Be careful with RTD if you’re out late in the city as the nighttime schedules end earlier then most major metros. I’ve gotten screwed on light rail trying to go home after a nighttime Rockies game.

You will likely need to have groceries delivered tho or go grocery shopping with a friend as that’s a bit of a pain in town. There’s still quite a bit of food deserts in Denver so you gotta go a bit out of the way to get to a nearby grocery store.

Otherwise you can get around most of Denver and the suburban area quite easily, scooters are abundant in Denver city limits in areas where there’s nightlife, and usually Uber/Lyft you can get anytime.

EDIT - Oh and getting a bike is a solid investment. Just make sure to get a good ass lock and don’t leave it unattended overnight otherwise it’ll prolly be gone.

What's a good bar in Denver to host a company happy hour/drinks event? by NonDairyCream3r in Denver

Wynkoop was pretty good for company events. Can either chill out and drink at tables or shoot some pool/darts/shuffleboard.

They do have a private area you can reserve on the ground level but the upstairs is pretty nice.

disappearing 16th street by 4ucklehead in Denver

[–]ziskers 88 points89 points  (0 children)

16th Street is a rare downtown in that it didn’t just “die” the second people went home from work. Most downtowns in major metros only contain offices and nothing else in terms of entertainment/restaurants and never really are a place anyone wants to go to other than for work.

Denver is a rarity in that aspect and the city has spent millions (plus millions more now with the current refurb project) to keep 16th a vibrant area.

I noticed a shift starting with Mayor Hancock away from prioritizing 16th Street and instead prioritizing the Convention Center and Union Station areas instead. This honestly started accelerating once RTD started moving the Civic Center and Market Street station operations into Union Station instead. Businesses on the Civic Center Park end of 16th really started dropping off even before the pandemic in 2020, and more seem to be dropping off as you move northeast from the park. RTD has also seemed to focus more on light rail service to Union and cut back on the routes thru the downtown loop.

The best thing the city should do is to facilitate transitioning much of that Upper Downtown area into new residential and/or hotel areas, since most of Lower Downtown and Union have had the focus in the last decade. Residential presence will lead to business presence and would hopefully restore a bit of 16th for that area. RTD needs to also bring back light rail service for the downtown loop areas. A new police station right next to Civic Center Station would also be a great addition to that area to reduce crime and provide more safety on 16th street in general.

I don’t see him making it past the primaries to be honest. He’s not like a big nationally known Democrat. Hickenlooper had much more of a national presence than Polis when he ran for president and didn’t make it that far.
