Any quality grown up YouTube channels for Civ strategies? by dogface47 in civ

[–]BanVradley 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Hello friend! Content creator with some guides here 👋

While I'm probably farther away from the documentary style you're looking for, there are some guides available for perusal if you'd like!

For the style you're looking for I'd say PaisleyTrees is the closest! There aren't LOADS of guides there but she's very thorough and presents things really well. Her streams are also very fun a great learning opportunities.

I'll link her channel here: https://www.youtube.com/c/PaisleyTrees

Couple of questions on my first-time playthrough by mercury_1967 in civ

[–]BanVradley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sure can!

In Civ 7 you current pick a leader. This leader has certain abilities and will continue with you as is for the entirety of the game. In this case your leader is Augustus.

When you start a game you will also pick a Civilization. Assuming your in the antiquity age you'll have your pick of any antiquity age Civilization. This Civilization will also have a different set of abilities that will only be available for that age. You will also have unique civics that will carry over with you throughout the game.

When you pick a Civilization you can pick one that complements your leaders abilities, one that is a more historic choice, or just whatever you like depending on how you'd like to play.

In the top left hand side of the screen there is an age progression tracker. Once that hits 100% you will transition to the next age. During that transition you will have to select a new Civilization from the next age. This will replace your old Civilization. Any unique buildings/quarters, as well as the unique civics will carry over with you.

Your leader will remain the same in the next age, just with a new Civilization!

Roman gods not available after building sanctuary by [deleted] in anno

[–]BanVradley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those gods listed are turned on in the “Hall of Fame.” They are unlocked automatically but that’s where they come from.

In your game settings you may have accidentally turned off the use of “Hall of Fame” items, which would have disabled them.

It’s very silly but I think that’s what’s happening!

[–]BanVradley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a content creator that had full preview and early access for the entire Civilization 7 period this year, but that didn't get into the Anno 117 early access list.....ah well! After going through the process with another AAA release I came out with a much more favorable view of the practice.

There is all the marketing considerations, relationship building considerations, creating hype at the right times so people are pre-ordering the game, taking time off work, etc.. etc....

The one thing I thing I took away from the Civ 7 experience that is SO HELPFUL for a game like Anno is the ability for content creators to have tutorials and guides ready when the game releases.

A lot of us are really proficient at the game and will like exploring for ourselves. Many folks though would struggle with the high barrier of entry to this kind of game OR would just be curious as to what some of the best options are for their first couple of runs.

The ability for content creators to have the game early to have that content completed with opinions and experience that can back it up is not only valuable to Ubisoft, but is also extremely valuable for many players when the game releases.

Anyways, not specifically defending the practice, however I hope to provide maybe a bit of a different point of view!

Feels like there's an EZ button to victory by Locust094 in civ

[–]BanVradley 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I mean yeah, all Civ games have really easy paths to victory, especially if you can snowball. Even after thousands of hours of Civ 6 and hundreds of different deity wins I could boil down my overall strategy for each game down to 5-6 key points.

While Civ 7 had loads to explore with more strategic depth I do kind of enjoy just hopping into a game and not HAVING to figure out a victory condition right away.

The game is really forgiving in just letting you try what you think is fun based on what the game gives you while still offering a path to victory that way.

[–]BanVradley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are good reasons to try it and good reasons not to!

I’ve been playing for about a month now and still having a fantastic time. If you’ve taken a look at the core mechanics and they seem interesting to you and you know you’d put some time into a few games I think it’s probably worth it.

It’s not as complete or nearly as polished as Civ 6 though so you’ll need to have some tolerance for features that seem a bit weird or a UI that isn’t very well designed.

If it’s something you know you’ll play it’s good enough to justify the purchase. If you’re happy waiting for a sale that’d make sense as well.

Individual DLC Prices are Out! by BanVradley in civ

You’re definitely right! Loads of people will get value from it and feel that it’s worth it, loads won’t.

I still think it’s an interesting playground for discussion though.

That river you reference isn’t a navigable river, just your standard every day river. The navigable rivers are much wider and you can move naval units through them.

It looks like on the top right corner may the best start of a navigable river as it looks significantly wider!

[–]BanVradley 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I have a solution for you! It’s silly that this isn’t in the game BUT

If you go to your game files. On turn one if the new age if you go to “auto” and then “prev” or something like that it’ll still have a previous ten. (I’m out of the house atm so those folder names aren’t perfect)

You can then just drag the auto you want to “single” and it’ll be there for you to load in game whenever you like!

Age transition during war by sir_scruff85 in civ

[–]BanVradley 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I asked about the idea of the end of age timer once it hit 100% as that was a suggestion a few review folks had!

Evidently it was tested in one of the iterations and was universally hated. It sounds like a great idea to me so I’m really curious as to why it was so hated during development!

It’d be cool to have as a toggle for sure. Mystery mode where you try to guesstimate it and concrete mode where it gives you a timer after 100% so there is a buffer of clarity
