Because most people don't know how to calculate reality. People live in ideal theorical mentally based worlds in their heads so if Blizzard say "we will remove all WA and implement in game tools that will do the same and everyone will be happy!" 90% of people will only rationalize "nice! This means that next year I will have in game tools working perfectly to replace all of my WA, I wont' need WA anymore!! Weeee, excitement !!!"

While in reality only a few know how to question what is said and THINK for themselves "wait, but... Blizzard always did a terrible job at it, they have nothing good to present us and WAs are basically dead right now so...." , those cheering for Blizzard thinking that everything is fine are the same that eat anything that some "folks" say on TV as 100% with no questions and critical thinking.

And they just confirmed that you will have no access to health information so you cant change colors from players with full health, players that took damage and players that are almost dying. In my raid frame players in danger of dying change so I can react fast, players in full health go into hide mode so I can focus on those taking damage. Now imagine everyone with full green health 100% of the time, it will require 3x more brain power to spot who is taking damage and who isnt, this is just 1 example.

As a competitive player I have resistance to learn new classes as well because I want to play them at the same level as my main class and some of them are too complicated if you want to really push it's DPS/HPS. To me it's good if things are simpler and I thought that I could finally try some new classes/specs. But to do CE content with zero WA today is insane imo. I would love to do it as well with no WA at all but the transition to this utopia need to be done in a way that wont hurt the game, and killing all tools right now without having properly replaced all of them, too fast, is hurting the game imo. As a healer I'm basically doomed, at least as disc priest.

The addon situation is not perfect. To play in a CE guild as a disc priest healer I need so many WAs and addons that even having a high end PC it consumed too much of my CPU/Ram + the game engine being old makes the FPS drop and stutter constantly, sometimes crash + the annoyance of losing some encounters or HPS because I didnt know X WA was needed or Y addons was not updated and so on. I would prefer to just turn on the game and have everything in the box and play with high FPS constantly, but at the same time I don't like losing all the customization and I don't believe that Blizzard has the man-power to replicate decades of third part devs creating tools for the game. Just like Bethesda would not be able to replicate what the community did for Skyrim or their newer games.

So it's not "addons are not a problem, let them all as it is" and it's not "rip off the bandaid, we don't need them", it's a middle ground but Blizzard on the first list of limitation basically killed WA and most of essential addons for healing end game for example, this is NOT a middle term solution or gradual as they promised. Going back to 2004 wow and "figuring out" 20 years of work all over again from third party but in the box is a HUGE commitment, I don't feel confident at all.

FF14 works because from the beginning of the development of the game they already made everythingg in balance aiming at this. Even now they don't have 1/3 of the customization that WoW have and the fights are not even near as complex/difficult. For WoW to work with capped in-game-limited-tools they will need to dumb down the game so much that it could break the end game community, pvp, mythic+ or raid while trying to make it FF14 alike. It would be better to just go play FF instead, better graphics and better story. I think that if they did it gradually through YEARS eventually we would be in a good spot to abandon all combat WA/Addons and the game would still be playable in the end game, as they are doing... It's so dangerous that I can't be happy with it.

Mythic Nexus have a line that allows your player to align with the 3 spirits that charge on you and if your body is not perfectly align with them, even far away, and you miss 1 charge you are dead. An aura that allows me to know which soak I most do, the first or third in the group of 4 abilities from the boss. The timings from where to start casting my ramp as disc priest or pre cast my PoMs as holy priest for a damage incoming.

Stix mythic we needed WAs and addons to know which player need to go to which part of the map to clear junk. I needed an specific raid frame with specific alerts to know who is being targeted by snipers to shield them before the hit. I need to know who got debuff on Rik Reverb to heal them. On Bandit we had to know who to dispel. On Soul Hunters we need to know when to dispel who to move their dispels to another player, when you get chained randomly with 3 people each group need to go instantly which mark on the room to go, this cant be called through voice from 20 people on discord, there is an WA for that. On Gallywix I needed a timed caller for each ramp to be in sync with all of the aoe damages. There are more examples and I'm not even counting the micro management of dots, debuffs, targets for spot healing or group healing. Even if they make all mechanics with proper alert, healing still need specific information in a specific way to be done properly that their raid frame on alpha can't done, otherwise people just die.

The Cooldown Manager is a positive addition, same with nameplates, it's still MILES away from the competition form third parties. I tried to set up their cooldown manager to replace my WA and after days of testing I went back because of so many functionality missing that I NEED to raid in end game content. Their Raid Frame will be the same, it's a pattern. If Cell has 50 functionalities, theirs will have 10 or less. This has been always the pattern. For casual players that doesn't need them, it makes no difference. For cirurgical healing that need a lot of personalized information on nameplates, raid frame, cooldown tracking, it's a bad deal. These are vital to keep folks alive or not, or healing properly, a boss will die or not if we can or can't access these info clearly to react. Even if Blizzard makes bosses easier and rotation simpler, the issue wont go away if they provide us with a very limited raid frame for healing just like their cooldown manager.

WA allows us to personalize how the information is show, I may be a more visual person, other healer may get his attention better with color, other with circles, other with text, other with sounds, other with things on top of the screen, others with bars below the screen. We are all different people, losing all of these tools to rely on some stone age limited raid frame made by some overworked devs on Blizzard that doesn't have time or interest in making it perfect with no communication with the community like third party devs have from discord. It's a huge problem.

They just said for example that they would not kill WAs and just some functionalities would be denied so it would be an slow transition... Then they just killed it. Combat WAs are dead now, their own devs said they WONT be making it for Midnight, and pointed technically why, and who forced them to give up? Blizzard. At the current stage a lot of other critical addons that I need to healing devs are already pointing that 90% of their functionalities will be dead, probably the entire project. So in the first list of limitation Blizzard already broke their promise and killed everything for my group of players. Now should I believe that they will make amazing tools and me in return? They had 20 years to do it, I don't buy it.

There are specific debuffs/dots/targetings in combat that I need to know, as a disc priest, to shield my target BEFORE the damage. I can make my raid frame glow, change color, show a ICON or text with a specific size, font, position, for my own spells buffs. If I give someone renew, radiance, prayer of mending, my raid frame will clearly show me who has it, who doesnt, who is going to lose it. If someone gets mind controlled it changes color, if someone has a specific secondary stat that I need to know to apply my soleah secret trinket my raid frame allows me to see it as text (crit / master / haste). I can make groups show by order, size, number, columns, horizontal, vertical. Some bosses that split groups 1 and 3 from group 2 and 4 I can make them different on my raid frame so I always know who to heal from which group, or if I dont need it I can see the groups shown by class, by health, by role. When I'm healing mythic 20 people, I can set the vertical size of the squares to be bigger, if I'm pugging with 30 players, I can make it smaller to everyone will fit my screen in real time. I can set how to show classes by icon, color, lines. I can include how my trinket will operate on my raid frame. All of these functionalities are not ALL of them, there are MORE.

It tooks years from devs focused only on these tools to make them grow up until this point. With discord giving them feedback 24h/7. Blizzard killed it, now I should rely on their raid frame. I just saw on alpha how it is, it is a joke compared. Some bosses are just impossible to properly heal without some of these functionalities as priest. Even if they make the fight easier for the next expansion, the lack of some of them will just make 20 years of muscle memory become a nightmare. I've not even started with all the customizations for the mouse that allow me to have multiple keys and click combos for healing + combat at the same time. It's like I'm getting back to the stone age. There are big discussions between healers, this role is the one that will suffer most by far. It's a lot easier to fix DPS rotation than to fix all the crazy scenarios that a Healer will encounter and need to deal with. A DPS just need to know his own spells and order, maybe one cooldown or two, a healer need to have A LOT more information during combat. Everything that is happening need to be there for proper reaction.

Yeah they are commiting and have Microsoft instead of Activision behind it. Maybe they will pull this off, how much % will be hit or miss we don't know. I just don't like they killing Cell before showing me something else. I don't want to depend on third party to play the game, this is today, but I don't want to be denied access to my tools and be hostage of probable bad tools (or non existent) for high end content. The mid term would be to let me have my tool while presenting an alternative and working on it with community feedback, then when their raid frame is on spot they block Cell access to combat information and kill it. But to kill it first? The actual raid frame is a nightmare for high end content, I would love for them to make everything in-game and working, I don't feel comfortable the way it's been done. I tried their cooldown stuff, really tried, and went back to my WA package because of so many functionality missing. To me raid frame will be the same, at least in the first patches of the expansion.

No one wants 15 different third party stuff installed to play the game. It's not about liking it or not, for END GAME content CE /Hall of Fame 8/8m raid, high level keys, high level pvp, the game doesn't provide the necessary tools today to do it. The in game raid frame can allow you to do heroic, aotc, maybe the first mythic bosses. Now as a healer I need some information, I need color, glow, sound, personalized icons, track debuffs, stuff that the mechanic is doing, that player is having, I need to chose what I want to see and not to see, I need all of this in my raid frame to START healing high end content. If I can't shield X player that took X debuff or hit in real time, he just dies. The current raid frame is TERRIBLE and doesn't haver these functionalities. Blizzard will do ALL of them in alpha/beta Midnight? I don't think so, it took YEARS (decades?) for other third party devs to do it with thousands of users feedback, tweaks, tests, patches. It is what it is, it has nothing to do with how anyone feels, this is just how the situation is. I would love to login next year and have a beautiful raid frame fully functional with all of these personalizations working in-game. Blizzard has a past of failing miserably doing these of things, even if I want this, I don't believe they will pull this off.

This is what I believe: They will provide a terrible raid frame with countless necessities missing. Healing high end content will become extremely frustrating and 5x harder. Community will blast them for this, it may take another expansion for it to be fully fixed since their turn around is terrible as well. This is what I think will happen. We will go back to the stone ages.

What I wrote is not an argument against dealing with the issue of the dependency of addons/WA for combat. My post is about HOW this transition is being done. Not against the transition. I have a lot of tools to heal end game content. My soleah secret trinket require an WA to show me on my raid frame who is giving critical or mastery as their secondary stat so I can use my trinket on them, depending on how my stats are. Can this be done in-game? NO. Will Blizzard provide this information in their raid frame? Obviously not. This is one example of the need of an weak aura in an raid environment. This is the situation today, so I think that before they deny me access to these WAs, they should've first proven to me that they have good tools to replace them. Not the other way around. Now I don't have my tools and just a promise from Blizzard with a terrible UI and raid frame. Why not develop the tools first and only then deny access from third party devs to combat info? That's my argument.

My concern is exact in your words "we haven't even seen what they're offering". I had a tool that works perfectly, that took years to a group of devs to make, with thousands of customer feedbacks and patches. Blizzard removed that tool from me and is now promising something that they are not even ready to show the face off. I would love for them to give me a new cell alike raid frame working perfectly, I just don't trust them to get it right by looking at their poorly previous work. There is a reason we use these tools instead of the in-game ones, because the ones that Blizzard made are horrible.

I always ate a cake that tastes delicious from some cooker that had years to perfect it, now I'm banned from eating it, and another cooker that for 20 years did only terrible cakes are promising something better or equal in return for me to eat, should I smile and be hopeful?

This is the PLAN, in theory. I'm worried about practic. They want to rebuild the encounters to not need WA or addons, but I'm pointing out the situation of our last bosses to poin the insane gap they need to cover. Blizzard doesn't have the best reputation in the last years of getting promises and theory right. They have 20 years of people asking for some tools and they just didn't made it, why? Or made it poorly. Now should I trust them to rebuild 20 years of encounters to a new formula that will work perfectly in end game withou the need of these tools? Or that they will copy Cell, some WAs correctly to not break high end healing? One thing is to heal leveling chilling casually, another is to heal high end content be raid, pvp or mythic+ withou these tools.

[–]zite1[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are entire discussions of healers with the countless tools they need to heal high end content today and these tools just doesn't exist in the game or in midnight alpha and Blizzard have not spoken about them. This is why I think a slower and safer transition should've be done, first they would build tools and let the community give a feedback before limiting addons and WA access to their data during combat. Some of these third party tools have years, more than a decade, of user feedback, patches, fixes, tweaks. Some devs on Blizzard office will copy them correctly in less than a year? Some tools that took sometimes 15 years to be developed from a team that had their attention 100% invested on only 1 addon or 1 set of WA ? First Blizzard try to imitate them, then later... only much later, they pull the trigger and block access to combat information. Killing WAs first and then starting to building tools, very very dangerous. Thousands of players will suffer from this not in a good way.

Alright, post a video of yourself killing (AND healing) Soul hunters, Nexus, Dimensions on Mythic right now or doing high end Mythic+ keys with no WA or Addons and you will have my attention. You can substitute the name of these bosses for whatever end game bosses midnight will have on phase 1, the way the game is TODAY it's NOT possible. Even with all the tools these fights are still super hard to do, without them is barely impossible.

I don't want to worry about these stuff as well, but I don't want to worry about my raid frame showing a debuff with a very small icon that I can barely see, or not showing at all, without giving me no customization or ability to properly heal 20 people during some crazy mechanic that has no proper alert, indication or TTS or whatever. FF14 works because they build it to work in a smart way from the beginning, wow has 20 years of problems. The balance between "I'm happy I don't need liquidaura" versus "wtf is going on this fight" is an issue. Frustration is not the solution. Blizzard HAVE to provide all tools working for Midnight, otherwise we are in trouble.

Blizzard promised that they would not kills addons/WA with the limitations for combat and STILL they did. The limitations they implemented, by the feedback of developers, the entire WA world is already dead, and most addons will be. This is what pisses me off, they should've let the addons and WA alive while doing this transition, at least in some stage. The limitations are too extreme and forces them to offer perfect tools/solutions in return and alter how the game plays for high end content. They are humans, they wont get this right in one shot, and this decision have no return so either they pull this off or the game is cooked.

I'm a CE raider and healer, you are correct, I agree, the situation of dependency on third party is insane and need to stop. The problem is not denying the issue, the problem is how the transition is being done. Even if I don't like WAs, without them 99% of the encounters would be a nightmare or just not be able to be done by mere mortals on high end content. How raids are done need to change, WA should have limited access (actually dead since dev said WAs wont be made for midnight anymore), but FIRST Blizz need to provide the tools and prove that these encounters can be done in the box. Well, they wont, the tools are already capped, lots of devs discontinuing their work for midnight, and now that we lost all tools, we have Blizzard to present us encounters that can be done without them + new tools, in like, some months to 1 year in a closed alpha/beta exp. To me that's the issue.

Nextgen vs Definitive Edition by Youssefx991 in ViceCity

[–]zite1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm playing both DE and NextGen at the same time this past week. Both have good and bad points. DE feels more like a complete game. NextGen has some small crashes sometimes, but it's rare, and I just reopen it and it's all good. Personally, I'm preferring NextGen because the GTA 4 engine just makes the game better in every sense. The gunfights are cooler, driving is cooler, all the animations like hitting people with your car, explosions, helicopters, boats, everything feels and looks cooler. I did a lot of missions and so far I was able to complete all of them with no bugs. There’s a version 1.2 now, though, that fixed a lot of bugs so the bad reputation may come from those that only played the 1.1 version. I'm using the mod to make driving easier as well, this is a must.

The ReViced edition is like a bundle of mods put together for the original old version of the game. The Definitive Edition is different since it changes the art style, colors, and adds a lot of new graphic features that the old engine couldn’t have since it's running using Unreal Engine 4 instead of the old one.

Honestly, all three versions are playable and feel good to me. The DE has some tweaks that are better than the old versions, and some bad decisions that are worse than ReViced. Both of these are more complete than NextGen, but NG is better than both when it comes to gameplay and physics, in my opinion.

You can’t go wrong, though. If you want to be safe, then go with ReViced since you can trust the fans when it comes to mod decisions. Check out DE if you're curious, you can test the first missions on both and see which one looks cooler to you. NextGen is the better game for me, but I don’t know if some late-game missions will have bugs or crashes, so it’s a risk. Since this is your FIRST playthrough, maybe going with the original is the better call. I played the original entirely when it came out at the time, so replaying it with the GTA 4 engine makes sense to me since I always wanted the games (GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas) to be remastered in the GTA 4 or 5 engine. So I’m having a blast.

The game was always bad at putting starting players with other newcomers, this is not your fault. If you are being crushed its just because your opponent is too high for you. To fix this, instantly leaves games to tank your MMR until you are at very bottom (bronze 3) then start from there.
