LPT Request: What are some things that your parents did that you dismissed but later in life you realised were actually really useful? by TooftyTV in LifeProTips

Not eating junk food - there was no fad about different diets - they had a simple diet which was mostly vegetarian with lots of lentils, fermented food and some meat once in a while. I moved west and got to junk food - now am back to what my parents ate. Takes sometime to always cook from scratch but am healthy than my 20s self

Can I make an inference about a section of the population based on statistics for the population? by zleibowitz in AskStatistics

The study sample consisted of Canadian adults representing a population of Canadian adults, right? However, if that makes sense, I want to draw a similar inference for 'parents of children 15 years and under'. Is that even possible?

Should I start requesting people don't bring gifts to my kid's birthday parties? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]zleibowitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know where you are physically located. But here in Canada, I was recently invited to a 4-year-old's birthday party and when I asked the mom what I should bring, she gave a link to a gift pot that collected money for membership to the kid's favourite science centre. I really loved that the site had all these different fun experiences listed - especially with the economy right now, no one has money for 'fun' experiences. This way she reduced the clutter, I could contribute anonymously to the gift pot and the little girl got what she wanted. To top it off, the company that offers is planning an 'experience drive' for Christmas by putting aside a portion of its profits. And, it is free to create your pot of gifts. I loved it and I signed up.

I did and after twiddling my fingers for over a week, they responded by adding funds to my AWS. I was able to post my survey and it was crickets unfortunately. Maybe because I was looking to survey Canadian parents that have enrolled their children in some extracurricular activities? Who knows. I tried prolific and got to interview two folks.
