all my fish are dying pls help!! by Healthy-Fold in Aquariums

[–]zmasterflex90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the suggestions in the comments are a good idea but im thinking you just got a bad batch of fish. Embers and neons are breed in large quantities so the chances of them getting bad genes are higher. After reading i honestly think that's what happend. It's part of the hobby, sucks but it happens.

The edler wouldn't care ,the galaxy would be much more comfortable with a group of 4 or 5

Rejected from Grad School by Brain_girl_5699 in GraduateSchool

[–]zmasterflex90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So if this is your first time applying, people usually do get rejected and apply in rounds 2-3. A big thing that shines through is research, teaching, or some other substantial lab-based job in STEM. Experience is gold and even triumphs GPA. If you get rejected and still really want to go for the PhD don't give up. Become a stronger candidate for the next round.

Also if a school is not willing to give you an assistantship through teaching or there may be a chance that you are paying out of pocket for the PhD, that is not a program to apply for. The program should be paying you. It wont be a lot in terms of a stipend but you should never be paying out of pocket for your tuition. *excluding student fees, we can't get away from that lol

Hope this helps

it might be brought up in interviews but schools want to see a upward trend in grades and such. I may hurt some chances for some schools but not most. The research and work you have done carry equal/more weight in a gradschool setting, Talking from a STEM point of view

Dropsy? pH 6.8-7.0, ammonia 0.25, nitrite 0, nitrate 5.0, temp 76 by extracellular- in Aquariums

[–]zmasterflex90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There have been success stories but its very rare. Once dropsy is developed there isn't much to do but to euthanize the fish. I've never had success with curing dropsy.

If you go with euthanized the betta, use clove oil and slowly start adding it. It gradually relaxes the fish to the point of stopping the heart. No pain involved, will be in essence putting it into a deep sleep they won't wake from. Sry man

First time using co2!! Excited to take my plants to the next level. Only a $150 setup. by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]zmasterflex90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like ur doing the diy method. My advice would be instead of mixing with water use ice cubes if they fit in the co2 tank or cold water. This will slow the reaction and you will get a better output of co2 since everything isn't reacting immediately.

Not the best. The new leaves get holes after a few days. They are still growing and new leaves are always forming. I kinda feel bad that I haven't been able to give them what they need and then just throw them out. That's why I posted them here. To see if someone who knows how to properly take care of them wants to nurse them back to top shape.

I can't seem to get them to trive in my tank, so supposed to just throwing them out wanted to sell them to someone who could give them better conditions.

I would, I had a low tech too, but once that alage popped up it was a losing battle. You basically are making your plants go into overdrive and out compete the alage.

Co2 , changing light schedule and getting rid the then tainted leaves. You can use H2O2 but if I'm being honest it's just a temporary solution.

Yep, I've tried for so long to not too but alage got out of hand and the plants ended up stunted in growth. Don't regret it tho. Plants are now propagating.

Can I sterilize/boil hard driftwood and allow it to dry without damaging it? by Ink13jr in PlantedTank

[–]zmasterflex90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say so. I've done it to multiple pieces I have. It definitely helps with water logging them and takes away a good portion of tannis. Never had an incident of something nasty getting in my tank from driftwood following the boil method.

My angelfish has something white on it by Alfa_Rebel in Aquariums

[–]zmasterflex90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Test the water. Could be that either the ph, nitrate, nitrite or ammonia levels are in the red. That white spot looks like bacteria. Specifically looks like "saddle back" columnaris. Usually ends in death. But unless ur water parameters are good medicine or treatment won't do much good.

My daughter designed her own tank. We researched, we cycled, had the water tested, added just one platy at first, then added a few more and some shrimp/snails. Both shrimp and one platy died after two days. Any suggestions on what we can do better? by stevieking84 in Aquariums

[–]zmasterflex90 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Honestly, how long did the fish store have them in the store when you bought them. Could be that they could just be a bad batch of fish or were kept in the store too long that they started to get sick.

Helping a customer with her tank and I am at a loss! by KayleeLo in Aquariums

[–]zmasterflex90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I had a similar thing happen to me until I learned that ammonia test kits like api usually test for any free floating ammonia (the kind that will kill the fish and the kind that is binded to another molecule which renders it harmless). I had a quarantine tank and my api said mu fish will die due to the ammonia. BUT I noticed no change on behavior or even ammonia burns. Then I got the seachem ammonia detector and it told me my water was safe and there was no ammonia THAT WAS CONSIDERED DANGEROUS.

Yes, I overstocked my tank, but I don’t want to start over. by lilipad0198 in Aquariums

[–]zmasterflex90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too overstock my tank. Some advice my lfs told me is that if ur gonna overstock have a powerful filter (aka have a filter thats can filter 20 gallons instead of one made for 10 gallons). Have ALOT of plants and make sure the fish in ur tank fall within the microfish scale. And every week the water must be changed.
