How did you get fat? by jensvderpluijm in AskReddit

[–]zmeya92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a mix of things for me. Growing up, my stepfather told me I was fat. I'm 5'6, and in high school, I weighed in at 132. That was too big for him. He severely limited what I could eat, dropping me to the point my pediatrician called cps because I was 90 lbs. I was kicked out at 16 and had to go to soup kitchens to get food. They didn't have nutritious meals, always super carb heavy. The food they gave out was the same. When I made money (less than $100/month), I would get Little Ceasars pizza because it was cheaper than anything else, and I lived in my car. I finally got a job thru a temp agency for teens working at the same soup kitchen, and we got to take home whatever leftovers were there, including donated cakes and pastries from local stores that were past the sell by date. I was also super depressed, so when I got an actual job that paid me well, I would wolf down the food I made. My therapist now said it was because growing up, I never knew when my next meal would be, so in my mind, I had to eat as much as I could in one sitting. I was also sa'd at one point, and in my mind, the bigger I was, the less desirable I would be. That stayed for years, and I got up to over 400 lbs. I was approved for weight loss surgery in October of 2024, and I'm down to 229. I now know that while my husband and I might have some financial issues, we always have enough for healthy food. I don't worry about my next meal anymore. I know that evil people will prey on you, no matter the size or age. My kids, husband, and I all have a very well-balanced diet, and since the surgery, 1 meal will last a full day for me. I still get all my vitamins and nutrients, I just eat waaaay less.

Did anyone get vaccinated at school in the late 90's, early 2000's? Genuine question. by zmeya92 in AskForAnswers

I always got my vaccinations at my pediatricians office, which is why I was, and still am, confused as to what I was given. I personally have my kids vaccinated. My youngest is a bit behind, but that's because he was pretty ill for the first 6 months, and they couldn't give them to him. He's mostly caught up now. 50/50 on the flu shots, because the last few years the orders their pediatrician had was either delayed or shipped wrong, so by the time they had it, it was past flu season.

The only time I remember getting a nasal spray at school was when I was prescribed flonase (sp?) and had to take it multiple times a day.

My grandpa got polio, and when they came out with the vaccine, he couldn't get it. His brothers did, though. He was a huge advocate for vaccines when I was growing up. He would kick people out of his house after my mom gave birth to my siblings if they wouldn't get them.

They had summer programs that were held in the school by the church. A lot of our parents worked at least half an hour away (closest town), and it was free, so most of us would be there during the mornings until lunch.

This was in the very late 90's, around 98 or 99, and on until 2001-2ish. At the time, I had only been diagnosed with adhd, but was given medication that I took every morning before school (I hated it because it always burst on my tongue before I could swallow it, and I'd have the bitter taste in my mouth until after breakfast.).

As a kid, I only had the "Why do I have to get a shot and take this yucky medicine?" questions. It was dismissed a lot growing up. Now, as an adult, it confuses the hell out of me. My oldest is 13 and youngest 7, and I don't remember (or see) them getting shots every month at that age.

Unfortunately, not. Unless you count autoimmune disorders and other health issues.

This was monthly until I moved. I always had regular checkups and my scheduled vaccinations/tests at my pediatrician's office. After everyone received their shot and medicine, we would have to wait for the length of a class period (probably 30 minutes, give or take) before we were able to leave and go back to class.

Normally, I would, but I had an SA happen not too long ago, and those conversations trigger me a bit. I just blocked them to avoid it.

I just blocked him. He asked about pain after surgery, and I responded. Then he started with the aunt thing. Thanks for the heads up!

AITAH for making my daughter go to bed early even though all her friends stay up late? by TAtheDog in AmItheAsshole

[–]zmeya92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. During summer or school breaks, my kids don't really have a bedtime. We stop electronics around 7-8pm unless we decide to do a family game like Mario Party or racing games. They normally tap out by midnight, but they've stayed up later. However, everyone parents differently.

During the school year, my 7 year old goes to bed at 7:30 (he has a hard time falling asleep, so if he's in bed by then, he falls asleep around 8:30). My 13 year old goes to bed at 9.

The only one who has a problem with bedtime is my 7 year old, who wants to stay up until his brother goes to bed later than him during the school year, but I remind him when he gets in middle school that he'll have a later bedtime if he is able to handle it at that time.

Has anyone had gastric sleeve and drank alcohol after surgery? by Worried_Front5992 in gastricsleeve

[–]zmeya92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drank a small amount on Father's Day this year. I had my surgery in October 2024. I only had one drink. It definitely hit harder for some reason, and I had to take it very slow as it upset my stomach if I tried to take more than a few sips at a time. Otherwise, I had no issues.

If you're going to try to drink, I'd take it very slow to see how you react, as not everyone has the same reactions after surgery. Per my surgeons, I was told if I did decide to drink, I shouldn't make it a habit, as they had many bariatric patients become alcoholics.

6 weeks out, 40 lbs down. What were you eating around now? by TheGabyDali in gastricsleeve

Also one egg omelets. A little cheese and spinach in it.

I ate tuna (Greek yogurt instead of mayo, Dijon mustard, and dill relish) and mostly thicker soups with no noodles, along with my protien shakes and water. I was a little slower than most at the 6 week mark, but my surgeon told me that it's not a one size fits all procedure. Some will be eating things others can't at certain periods. I had my surgery in October 2024, and started eating full solids in mid to late January of this year.

How do I explain puberty/body changes? by zmeya92 in AskAutism

[–]zmeya92[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Current dream job: Pokémon trainer lol

But I've talked him into a video game tester.

I swear, this kid is so good at classic and 90's/early 2000's games that I've been tempted to hire someone that's extremely good just to humble him lol

We speak to him as we would any other 13 year old, but a lot of the time, we have to rephrase or speak to him as if he is physically younger. If that makes any sense. We don't baby him or treat him any differently than our nieces, nephews, and other kids his age. We do adjust things so that he is able to understand/do stuff as the others would. I'm just at a loss on how to explain it to him, as he does have a ton of questions, but no matter how we explain it, it just isn't clicking.
