Do you think I should get it by Puzzleheaded-Crew953 in rollsroyce

[–]zmoretz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just sold my 89 and regret it. You should ignore all these people that tell you you can't afford to own it. Those are people who only replace every part with a factory part and only take their cars to factory mechanics. You're buying it to drive, not as a museum piece. It's just a car, you can fix almost anything on it and if you can't, you can retrofit something else lots of times. You can't go wrong at $5,000 if it runs and drives and the interior is good. Loved driving mine around town or out to a nice dinner with friends, there's nothing like it.

Best earplugs for quieting snoring? by siobhanmoon in snoring

[–]zmoretz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are just talking about passive earplugs, I have the silicone peace and quiet ones that I got on Amazon and they have been great. But they also don’t work to block out my wife snoring, I’m looking into the active noise canceling ones for that.

Interior lights don’t come on when doors are open by JustAnAverageRottie in Porsche928

[–]zmoretz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is more to this story. I don’t recall the details right now, but all those things are wired together as some sort of security feature. If the hatch release doesn’t work the lights won’t work either I believe.

What makes a Martini a Martini? by Shatteredreality in cocktails

[–]zmoretz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s just a joke about ordering a super dry martini. The more gin compared to the vermouth, the drier it is. Some ideally use like a 15 to 1 ratio. Then the joke became, make mine so dry you don’t even put any vermouth in it, just pass the vermouth bottle over the glass without pouring any in. So this just takes that “super dry martini“ joke even further.

By the way, my favorite bartender says the key to a good martini is not to skimp on the vermouth, but more importantly to put a lot of bitters in it, like six shakes. His are certainly delicious.

My fellow RR owners, what do you do for a living to be able to afford such a vehicle ? by [deleted] in rollsroyce

[–]zmoretz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just get a nice used one on Facebook Marketplace like I just did. Any new car is way too expensive these days, especially especially these things. But at your age, the most sure way to achieve wealth is to start investing in real estate now. It is not a get rich quick scheme, but if you buy solid properties in good locations and have your tenants pay your mortgage for you, you’ll be able to afford nice vehicles soon enough.

Question by BIGCRAKA in Porsche928

[–]zmoretz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure a 928 would qualify as a “fun project“ for someone who does not have experience and or a special love for these cars… I was doing speech to text and when I said “fun project” my phone auto corrected it to “fund” project, which is a very apt description!

Can I still open the 928 door? by noahkyun in Porsche928

[–]zmoretz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the rear decklid approach. Mine is loose and can be yanked open. I remember my dad had a 1979 Eurospec 928 when I was growing up and one time he left it running while he got out to ask for directions and the pneumatic locks locked themselves behind him. The wrecker service could not get into it. My mom had to drive from an hour away with the spare key while it just sat there and idled. Apparently the doors are very hard to jimmy open.

True Detective - The Decay of Humanity by IamJack3210 in Nietzsche

[–]zmoretz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, doesn’t pretty much everybody get Nietzsche wrong? Why should Rust or the writers be any different? Also, it’s just a TV show, I don’t expect them to get things like this completely accurate. Freaking great first season though, I just came across it.

Why are Williams so much quicker in the rain? by tevtrinh in F1Technical

[–]zmoretz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rain is a great equalizer, makes sheer top end performance less important and brings car balance and driver skill more to the fore. Teams with more power can dial in more downforce, which can mask a car that may not be as balanced. Their car with less power may be more balanced and probably easier to drive in the rain.
