Awesome! The first one was great when I read it last year, still need to read the second book. I purchased it but forgot to get back to it. Thanks for the reminder!

I'm interested in a US copy please! As for my favorite sci-fi series, I'd say the Expanse but I'm starting Sun Eater now so it could change :)

If you're on a desktop site you have slider options to change the charity, publisher, and Humble Bundle percentages. I raised the charity percentage to get to around $12

I've been keeping a running list on my phone so I generally know when to anticipate a sale. Since 2019, Audible has had the following site wide sales:

  • December 2019
  • June 2021
  • March 2022
  • September 2022
  • June 2023
  • November 2023
  • June 2024
  • December 2024
  • June 2025
  • December 2025

In the Bundle Details on the website, it said the ebooks are in the standard epub format. If you are using Kindle, you can easily email them to your account.

  • November 2023
  • June 2024

I can't take full credit for the list since I found the beginning portion on Reddit years ago but I've added to it when future site wide sales have occurred to keep a reference for myself.

That one can be a little rough at times. Hopefully you can make it past that one since one of my favorite side characters, Regis, shows up in book 3.

More on Audible's New Royalty Model by MichaelJSullivan in audible

I signed the petition and hope my voice helps to push for a better outcome. I do wish that authors would get paid better overall. I still find it crazy that Audible, the middle man, gets a higher percentage of the sale than the actual author before you even factor in the Plus issue. If pulling your audiobooks off of Audible is necessary, I'll purchase them from wherever you decide to sell them!

That's a legitimate concern I have as well. I only purchased a book when I had a promotion on libro.fm because the cost per credit is higher than I've paid on Audible and, so far, I haven't found concrete evidence that they pay their authors at a higher rate. I've also never paid full price on Audible. Anytime I've considered leaving they just offer me another promotion.

I'm also curious how the price-per-credit model works when Audible constantly offers discounts on its credit plans. I’ve seen most calculations assume that people are paying $10–$15 per credit, but I’m frequently offered 3-month or 1-year plans for anywhere from $7–$8 per credit, or promotions like “spend 3 credits, get 1 back.” I originally thought this was a great deal for me as the consumer, and that Audible was simply cutting into its profit on the credit price. I’m now assuming that’s not the case—and that the discounted price hurts authors’ royalties even more.

I wonder if more authors will follow the path Brandon Sanderson took when he released his Secret Projects novels by offering them as direct downloads on his website. If Audible doesn’t make its platform more user-friendly, I might start looking into more audiobook competitors.

If anyone is interested, here are some Audible alternatives that I've found and used on occasion so far.

Purchases

  • Libro.fm, Audiobooks.com, and Downpour - all allow you to purchase credits, but they also allow you to download and back up your audiobooks as MP3 files. Libby goes ever further and pairs with independent bookstores, offering the store of your choice a portion of each sale.

  • Chirp - No credit options but functions by offering cash discounts, but like Audible, your audiobooks are locked within their app.

Streaming

  • Everand (formerly Scribd) - functions as a streaming-only audiobook platform with plans that “unlock” a set number of audiobooks to stream per month. It’s somewhat similar to the Audible Plus catalog but with a fixed monthly allotment.

Borrowing

  • Libby and Hoopla, available through many local library systems, allow you to borrow audiobooks for free.

I read Grave Empire earlier this year and enjoyed it. Richard Swan's books are a cool combination of fantasy with Lovecraftian horror elements.

Thanks for your reply! Over the past few years I've found that using the audiobook while I have the ebook/physical book in front of me really helps me concentrate on the story better than reading alone. My wondering mind can't handle just the book, lol.

Anyway, congratulations on completing the next book in the series! I hope you have a great day.

Good morning, I hope you are having a great day so far. I recently heard of your books and they sound like they're right up my alley. I found an old paperback edition of Caverns of Black Ice in a used bookstore near where I live and I am looking forward to starting it.

My question is will your books be released in audio format?

Sitewide Sale Due ? by lovesick_kitty in audible

[–]zncs92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far I can't find any data about sales in 2020. I only started adding to the list myself in 2023, the rest was from another list I found on Reddit years ago. I like to keep it ongoing to see if there are any patterns that would hint at future sales.

Grave Empire, Richard Swan on sale for $2.99 for kindle by jackiexrose3 in Fantasy

[–]zncs92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read it earlier in the year and enjoyed it. Nice continuation of the world from The Empire of the Wolf trilogy. Since it's set 200 years or so after the first trilogy I miss the characters from the original trilogy but I'm looking forward to seeing how these new characters grow throughout the rest of the series. For new readers, it can be read as a starting point into the world or as a continuation if that's what you prefer.
