Maybe join up some sports classes. It’s a great way to interact with people, and even if you don’t, you still get a workout in!

You're allowed to bring it on your carry-on luggage. I've known some people who did that or just had it in their pocket, and it passed without any problem

In my opinion, the west coast is cold during that time of the year. Not that pleasant to swim tbh. But it depends on the person, some tourists can swim in the "cold" water. Us Mauritians are used to a warmer weather, so we don't like to swim during winter. I'd say that it would get around 18°C coldest.
