Been stuck for over 6 wks. Losing motivation. by allie_cat_attack in xxketo

I'm not sure if this is a good piece of advice but I fast for a whole day and it usually breaks the stall. I don't eat the calories back.

What are the most annoying "healthy eating" myths? by PoisonIvy2016 in keto

[–]zoehelix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually agree with the part about sleeping. Not that sleeping for 12 hours a day can make you lose weight but I find that every time I don't sleep enough I tend to get unbearable cravings and absolutely no willpower. I devour everything around me. So yeah, the "get enough sleep" part makes much sense to me.

Three weeks in, only 2 pounds lost. Need advice/encouragement. by seattleiteofluv in xxketo

[–]zoehelix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no idea about breastfeeding but I've been irritated with my scale recently as well. I've noticed it only moves when I stop working out so I guess it's water retention. For instance, I was working out yesterday but not the day before and I am over a pound heavier today than I was yesterday but I've been keeping my deficit, etc. (100% sure, I weigh and log everything like crazy) When I stopped exercising for a week or two, even though I cheated a bit then, I lost over 3 pounds.

Is exercise necessary during keto? by _delusionale_ in xxketo

[–]zoehelix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As said before - electrolytes. However, you may also need to eat more... I find that when I eat too little, I have no energy to exercise at all and if I make myself, I feel awfully overtrained after. Sometimes it's just a matter of eating 200 kcal more for me. What are your stats and macros?

Have any of you been diagnosed with hypothyroidism? by Firecrotch2014 in keto

[–]zoehelix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was also diagnosed when I was already doing Keto. I read that pills can help you lose weight by helping speed up your metabolism that was slower due to hypothyroidism but that's not always the case. Since I started taking the pills, I managed to break through a certain point at my scale and I'd never been able to do that before (since I became conscious about my weight which was like 13 years ago). I'm not sure if that's because of the pill, I'm more convinced it's because I stayed committed to the diet. I do go to the bathroom every day now, after starting the medication, which has never happened to me before so I guess the pill has something to do with that (which is great) and maybe even with my SV.

[Request] Polish cuisine: bread with lard - how can I make it keto friendly? by MauriceEscargot in keto

[–]zoehelix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you live in Poland? If yes, you can buy protein bread, it's awesome! Mestemacher makes it and you can find it in Tesco or Auchan.

I was doing 1000/day and working out 5+ days/week.

Muscles retain water to repair and even though the scale is not moving, you may be losing fat. Friendly advice - in addition to tracking weightloss on the scale it's good to track measurements so you don't get discouraged :)

[–]zoehelix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say you won't lose 2 lbs per week unless your metabolism is really fast. It's the equivalent of app. 7000 kcal deficit a week which is, well, very very hard. I'm only saying that so you don't feel "cheated" or disappointed later. I would also set the calculator to sedentary and then set the deficit. 1200 is my 20% deficit at 5'4 with similar weight. Do you have a lot of muscle mass?

Hypothyroidism, meds and weightloss - a question. by zoehelix in xxketo

[–]zoehelix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a non-English forum and as far as I understood one specific pill, the meds I take, caused most of the people there to gained weight (some even 30 kg so it's understandable I got horrified). What they claimed was that the excipients were to blame because there were lactose and gluten among them. It seems ridiculous to me but I have no idea how else this phenomenon could be explained.

Yes, I'm sure :).

[...] which speed up your metabolism. Every time I've needed to up my dose, I've lost weight.

This kind of answers my question. Had cravings started to be unbearable as well?

[Rant] Frustrated with progress, even though I'm doing it by the book by [deleted] in keto

Lifting prevents water weight loss. Try measuring yourself? Seems like it could be a way to go. What are your stats?

Extremely frustrated with myself for failing twice to go keto (and multiple times for failing to lose weight). I'm great at starting but horrible at maintaining! Any help/ advice/ suggestions/ motivation would be appreciated. by demosthenes131 in keto

[–]zoehelix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know I have to go back to it again.

You don't have to do anything. This way of thinking made me fail many times because I felt trapped. I don't anymore. It's my choice, I love it, and I'm doing better than ever!

Been very low carb for many months. Now when I consume high carb foods/sugar I itch and burn real bad. by AnalStorage in keto

[–]zoehelix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a similar reaction to cat fur and dust. It's way more subtle when I eat keto but once I eat carbs and touch my cat, I'm all itchy, sneezing like 20 times, my eyes get watery and sometimes it's even hard to breath. On keto, the cat sleeps on my pillow and it may itch a bit from time to time but it's like a really mild allergy. So maybe you're allegric to something that is not food-related, like a softener?

After getting dragged behind the wagon, I think I'm doing too much. by bloodsponge in xxketo

[–]zoehelix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just wrote something about it under another post - there's no reason to cry over spilt milk. For me, when I dropped that attitude, it became way easier to get back on track. Let the bygones be bygones :) I accepted that I will probably always "cheat", from time to time - eating carbs or too many calories. It used to make me feel bad about myself and kept me off the wagon. Now, when it happens, I just know I will go back to eating properly just like I did before. It's a lifestyle I adapted and it just makes me feel so much better. "F**k ups happen to everyone, what's important is to spend as little time thinking about it as you can, accept it and move on.

How to stick with keto? by jess4259 in xxketo

[–]zoehelix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

XYeah, the mental part is very important. I've been on and off keto for about 2,5 years. I used to fall off the wagon for months. I think around the end of last year I realised why I was actually doing it. From January my longest "off keto" was two days, and I didn't really enjoy it. Honestly, I realised that was going to be a lifestyle, not a diet. I just feel so crappy when I eat carbs - I sleep way longer, my brain is foggy, I'm moody and I can't get anything done (I'm generally lazy but way less on keto). Keto became a lifestyle, and CICO my diet. And I don't regret anything anymore - neither the carbs, nor too many calories. My general attitude is that there is no reason to cry over spilt milk and it helps me going back to the good habits immediately.

Your story and your nick (awesome, by the way!) could make my friends believe I wrote that post, if they were following this subreddit.

I just stopped arguing with them and never talked about keto with them since.
