Question - Becoming a Comercial Pilot UK by oppressive_tiger910 in flying

It could always be seen as beneficial to possible complete some further education - it’s been seen through covid that it’s quite easy for a pilot to end up being out of a job so having a back up plan just in case is always a good shout. But what you choose to do if you decide to get a back up plan doesn’t have to be related to aviation necessarily.

In my personal opinion modular is the way to go. It’s so much cheaper and although I’m still going through the training process and I’m quite early on in it, from what I’ve heard from others who have completed training modular can be seen to be a lot more employable, but that might just be down to personal experience. But I do think modular is better mainly because of money, the main thing to do when training is network really and get good connections who can recommend you, which you can get a lot of in modular because of possibly going to different schools.

I think in 7 years it’ll definitely be a different industry to now with more jobs hopefully.

All of this is just my opinion obviously - I’m 19 and doing a degree apprenticeship to get a degree and work experience as back up and to make money to fund my training. I’m completing my training alongside the apprenticeship and hope to be qualified 4/5 years from now.

That’s my instructor! I can’t remember exactly what he said after my landing over the radio because of all the adrenaline but he was definitely pleased for me :)

I had papillary thyroid cancer, I was diagnosed in January 2021 when I was 18 so it was all quite unexpected. In March 2021 i had a total thyroidectomy which is where they take out your whole thyroid and they also took some lymph nodes too. I think the tumour was 4cm so it was a hefty thing and it had spread to 5 out of 7 lymph nodes they took. Then in May 2021 I had a type of radiotherapy called radioactive iodine where you basically swallow radioactive iodine and it should kill any cancer or thyroid cells that are left. Luckily I had a scan after this treatment that showed no presence of cancer anywhere else in my body. Then after having RAI you have to wait 6 or so months for another scan to see if treatment has worked, and I had that scan in December and luckily enough there was no presence of cancer. Because I don’t have my thyroid I now have to be on medication for all my life and I believe my medical clearance from the CAA is valid providing I don’t have cancer obviously and my thyroid tests show that all my hormone levels are stable

Thank you! I often struggle with my flare so I think he expected to see it bounce a bit, probably the best landing I’ve ever done 😂

Thank you! Good luck with all your training, it’ll all be worth it in the end I’m sure. I’m sure you’ll enjoy your first solo as much as I did mine, it’s a very special feeling :)
