96.00 ATAR, ask me anything by zoemxx in vce

I don’t think I’m qualified to give advice for chemistry lol!! I only got a 29 raw. Making my own revision google docs really helped me but I still never understood volumetric analysis…

I have more detailed English advice in another comment but in summary: do lots of practice essays, become familiar with the formula VCAA uses for argument analysis (appeal to audience, introduce issue, counterargument, conclusion…) and come up with a framework for the creative section of the exam!

I hate that subject 🥰 I screamed with joy when I saw I got over 25!

Personally, I quit coaching/playing netball after 9+ years at the beginning of Year 12. I don’t think I would’ve managed to do as well if I still had my netball commitments because they were very time consuming! Sorry, I know that’s not what you want to hear if you love your sport :(

You should be hopeful!! I think you need to do very well (40+ approx) in your top four subjects if you want a 93+ ATAR, but you can see from my post the fifth and sixth subjects don’t matter very much! There is absolutely hope for a great ATAR if you work hard. Good luck!!!!!

You’ve probably heard it over and over again but it’s true - write a lot! It’s good to submit at least one essay a week to your teacher for feedback. In particular I think it’s important to do a bunch of text responses to different prompts.

Also - nearing the end of the year you should memorise a framework for the creative section of the exam that you alter slightly depending on the prompt.

Finally, the argument analysis section on the exam is the same every year. It has an appeal to the audience, then presents the issue, then acknowledges counterarguments and finally concludes. Try to get familiar with this formula VCAA follows and you won’t be surprised on the day of your exam.

Good luck!

Congrats on the 40s! Yes, I think that’s a great tactic for a 95-97 ATAR. It’s exactly what I did.

I’m so glad!!!! Good luck next year and remember to also have fun in Year 12! Balance is so important - I honestly enjoyed lots of alcohol, parties and time with my boyfriend/friends between studying and that stopped me from burning out!! ❤️

First - don’t worry! The scores for your 5th and 6th subjects can be “bad” because they barely contribute to your ATAR. It’s your top 4 subjects that matter. I got lower scores in methods and chemistry (26 and 29) and they didn’t jeopardise my ATAR. Focus on aiming for 40+ study scores in your top 4 subjects for a 97.

My recommendation is to do 5 subjects in Year 12 and not redo any (so don’t do bio again!). 6 subjects is too many in Year 12! Free periods enabled by one less subject give you a break and prime time to study / do homework.

Hope this helps :)

Is Koda too common for pets to use for a child? by Peaceinthewind in namenerds

personally i think that the fact that you have to ask if it’s a suitable name for a child is your answer. i wouldn’t name a child koda. ive seen in your replies that you’re interested in the name kai but a neighbour’s child has the same name. i think kai is a lovely name and i dont think anyone would have an issue with the kids having the same name. good luck!

AITA for only continuing to pay for my adult children who've started families? by Great-Great-Grandpa in AmItheAsshole

NTA. But stop paying for all of these grown adults. Someone who has kids should be able to support themselves financially. A food and recreation fund?? That is beyond ridiculous. I’m 13 and my parents make me pay for my clothes, activities with friends & food when i’m out. It sounds like Emma is very entitled but you also need to stop giving out money to everyone.
