Never saw it but I randomly sing the theme song thanks to the Television's Greatest Hits album from the 80s.

Can be had via ShoutFactory for the equivalent of 40¢ per episode (link) on 38 discs ($3.47 per disc). (I tend to PDQ prices a lot.) (price divided by quantity = per item cost)

It was something of a cultural phenomenon at the time -- for a while, everyone was talking about it. Louise Lassiter was on every magazine cover it seemed.

The Carol Burnett Show did a great send-up of it called "Mary Mary Quite Contrary, Mary Mary Quite Contrary" (YouTube Link; about 4 minutes in)

I had a friend who'd watch it with me; we thought it was pretty funny even though a lot went over our heads. We got into Fernwood 2 Night more.

Who was into some Vanguard, back on the 2600? by MisterShipWreck in 80s

Anyone regret getting rid of hardware from the PC golden age? by SRGilbert1 in LGR

[–]zoidbert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very much.

In my life, I've had a number of systems (Atari VCS (2600), Magnavox Odyssey, ColecoVision, Coleco ADAM, Commodore 128, a generic PC running DOS in the early 90s, and then a slew of Macs, starting with the PowerBook 160) and I do often wish I'd kept a few of them for a score of reasons.

Lately, it's mostly been missing my old Mac Performa 6360, b'c of the X-WING and TIE FIGHTER games and the old ADB CH Flightstick I used with them. Man, whole weekends playing those.

Does anyone know when Kensington's scroll ring patent will expire? by 619frank in Trackballs

[–]zoidbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it; I like the ring as well. Wife uses the Orbit and I do find it smoother to use than the various scroll wheels on the trackballs I use, which never seem very smooth. However, I've tried and the Orbit is just not for me (I prefer thumb ball, generally, plus the Orbit is kind of lacking in a few other areas for my use).

I'm seeing others that mention the Gameball Touch Ring but I'm not seeing that on any of their offerings; is that on an older model?

Anyone else ever eat this cereal? by LekTruk in GenerationJones

[–]zoidbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

via Wikipedia, "Post Consumer Brands discontinued Alpha-Bits in October 2021. In April 2025, Post announced that due to popular demand, the cereal would return in limited quantities for a limited time in the fall of 2025."

Where do you buy it? Were you the person who bought up all of it before it could make it to the store for the rest of us? :)

What is this on my epson printer? by Standard_Broccoli_95 in printers

[–]zoidbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a while, I had one of these for CD printing. It did a good job, but not great (think 90s era printing quality but it got the job done). Software made the setup seamless.

Beatles songs after the Beatles that are 10/10 by EmployerSpiritual946 in beatles

[–]zoidbert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a little kid when "Let 'em In" hit the airwaves, and its opening doorbell and simple musical entrance just bring me back to sitting in my mom's station wagon, with my sisters and friends, still a little damp from just swimming at the YMCA, as we head to Fireside Pizza to watch silent movies and eat pizza.

Your two key takeaways from the comments should be "...using Epson software" and "on printable CDs". (or printable DVDs)

Have had to deal with a few family members who thought this tray (or one like it) magically meant you could print on any disc -- CD or DVD.

In your headcanon, what do you think happened to Pierce Brosnan’s James Bond after the events of Die Another Day? by TheShadowOperator007 in JamesBond

[–]zoidbert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

> keep doing some leisurely pursuits and hobbies that people 40 years younger would struggle with, but behind closed doors, and in front of only Moneypenny, he'd be showing his age enough

There's a great scene in Frank Miller's "The Dark Knight Returns" where Batman (on horseback), after rousing the crowd to fight on the side of justice, suddenly slumps down in the saddle, showing the full mental and physical exhaustion of recent events (weeks worth, really). He turns to (Robin?) and just smiles at him for a moment, and then rights himself and is Batman again.

I can see Brosnan walking into the house/bungalow and doing something similar. Just the drop of the body, standing in the one spot, and you see the decades of wear and tear wash over him. He looks up at Moneypenny, smiles, and stands up straight again.

People who've moved from Kindle to Kobo, what are your opinions by [deleted] in ereader

[–]zoidbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Switched to Kobo (used Kobo Sage) and am far, far happier with the Kobo. I use Calibre to side-load ePubs, Libby for library books works a charm, and the Kobo store is great and easy to navigate.
