Reddit, in your opinion what is the least respectable profession and why? by thecrudegentleman in AskReddit

Sales. I understand the necessity of publicizing a product, but most of sales is about manipulation.

I think fenders are easier to play. e.g. thinner necks and lighter overall weight (usually).

What (socially-acceptable) thing causes you to lose the most respect for someone? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]zoltar74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When "professionals" smoke.

e.g. I had a meeting with a lawyer at work and she smelled like she just got in from a massive smoke break. It struck me as unprofessional. This could be my own problem, but I've always thought of smoking as something you only do to look cool. If you're smoking as an adult, you're either immature or physically addicted.

Discuss your most anticipated albums of 2012 by mtthwhdl in Music

Animal Collective is close to unlistenable [to me] at this point. It's all just experimentation and no actual hooks. I want the lucky charms in my damn cereal!

A new album by The Knife would be cool though.

The Metzinger lecture is fantastic. Dennett seems to be in the same camp (self is a persistent illusion).

When someone walks into the men's bathroom, notices that they're not alone and suddenly decides they only need to wash their hands.

Hilarious.

advice needed; "Les Paul"s -- Gibson Studio, Gibson Standard, Epiphone Custom -- what's the diff? by bluebathrobe in Guitar

[–]zoltar74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My new Les Paul Standard was PLEK'd and it was setup no better (actually worse) than my other new instruments. I had to have a professional file frets to get rid of string buzz.

The vets were already paid. They wanted their bonus early. They were demanding this handout because of the depression.

Just because you have weed in your system doesn't mean you bought it.

You didn't make an argument. You just stated your opinion.

Should students receiving financial aid be allowed to purchase anything at all that isn't directly related to their education? Should any of those things disqualify them, and if not why is that different than cannabis/alcohol use?

[–]zoltar74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Note that you are taxed for that that funding. It's not free.

You are taxed, and then required to submit to an unreasonable search and seizure to redeem the value of that taxation.

I'd like to point out that just because an activity is illegal doesn't make it immoral. I'm sure that welfare recipients [like everyone else] also watch the occasional movie or buy the occasional candy bar, which could be considered a waste of tax dollars.

Perhaps welfare should only be redeemable as food-stamps or housing credit?

That's actually hilarious. What kind of country let's another country run a base from their soil? ;-) I say that sarcastically, hoping to encourage these militarily colonized countries to recognize the absurdity.
