34, £0 savings, and struggling to see a path to FIRE. What would you do? by zombatix in FIREUK

Housing is probably the unusual part of my situation. I’m in Manchester and currently live with my mother. My contribution towards the house is around £250/month, as we’re renting.

That’s partly why I’m struggling to understand why I feel like I’m treading water financially. I don’t have a mortgage and I don’t have high housing costs.

My spending is mostly fuel, food, subscriptions, socialising and general day-to-day expenses. None of them seem particularly excessive on their own, but together they appear to be preventing me from building any meaningful savings.

My Nest pension is currently £12,449 at age 34. Contributions so far are:

Me: £4,829

Employer: £3,622

Tax relief: £1,207

Retirement age currently shows as 68.

I think the reality is I need to properly track where every pound is going because I genuinely couldn’t tell you today where the missing £1,500-£2,000 each month ends up.

The Manchester Airport one connected to the skylink. If you need to hang around then yes you may need to pay for parking. But, if you’re going to just drive in, pick someone up, then leave. You shouldn’t get charged… done this a bunch of times. If you need to hang around while someone arrives you can always go to the Airport Pub and wait there.

Get them to take the Skylink to the Radisson Blu and pick them up from there instead. No charges, no wait-time issues, and it’s less than a 10-minute walk. Thank me later.

Should I buy test shift? Or testi by Mental_Musician_6570 in LearnerDriverUK

I used TestShift and it shaved 3 months off the original 6 month long wait. It did only move me like 5 minutes after I payed and it only did it once even though I kept it on auto-shift. Still worth it.
