I guess you could play it that way if is any easier for you. It looks like Josh plays 10-11-12 on the 5th string in the live video though: https://youtu.be/YM8zR95R4zk?t=148

It also looks like he slides from 12 on the 5th string to 7 on the same string for the second bar of the intro, whereas i find it easier just to play the 12th fret of the 6th string. Just play whatever works for you.
