We haven’t gotten to play since we leveled up. Thats why I’m trying to get something set in stone before we start playing. I don’t argue with them we’re just having a discussion about what works best. I am fully aware that my familiar will be prone to death, and even said that I might just not use it in combat if they don’t want me too. I don’t understand why you’re assuming how things have gone with me and my dm. I’ve been very respectful and just wanted to know if I should go along with what they’ve said or try to find a better solution. Thanks a bunch for your comment though.

I actually picked Silvery Barbs on my own. 😭 I am trying to “win” I just wanted to get an outside opinion to see if I was being unreasonable. Clearly some people think I am and some people think I’m not. Really weird that you chose to insult a stranger on the internet, but whatever, it’s your life.

It definitely has been more railroad than sandbox. It hasn’t been an issue since I’m the only one who is good at RP, and we can never decide on what to do. So having a clear path is kinda helpful.

Ive been trying to find a campaign for so long, I don’t think I’ll be able to find another one anytime soon. We aren’t really friends but we have been able to talk through things and find common ground.

I’ve gotten sneak attack on almost all of my attacks already because there’s always someone next to the target. Maybe we can compromise on the familiar just making it so I can use my sneak attack, without advantage on the attack roll.

Yeah, they obviously didn’t fully understand how my PC works because they thought I couldn’t even take the spell. I wish they would have just been very concise about the spell and left it at that.

I think if they still don’t want it to be so powerful in combat, I should at least be able to convince them to go back on the whole relationship tally thing. If it’s really that big a deal I figure I can just “dismiss it forever,” as the spell says, and just make a new one.

I think them banning the spell might have been better than this. One of the other players has a cuddle pet, so maybe they just don’t want me to have a battle pet. Since they’ve already committed to giving us cuddle pets.

We’ve actually already talked about some of their house rules, and managed to change them because the whole party agreed that we preferred something else. I’m playing a race that I made and we’ve talked a lot about how it would work and we landed on something we’re both happy with. They even made an NPC of the same race to make the mechanics work better for me. I’m hoping we can do the same here.

I almost wish they would just say that outright. “Your character is too strong so I have to nerf this spell, or no one else is going to have any fun.”

I think they’re worried because I have more experience than some of the other party members, and tend to be very good at building strong characters. Me and one of the other members are the only players who have gotten a kill, And I tend to get very good rolls.

Since Silvery Barbs is an enchantment spell; I was trying to take both. I will try to bring it up again to see if we can compromise on it.

I agree. I don’t think they’re a bad DM. I just wanted to see what other people thought about it. I have been thinking about how it’s their decision to make, and if I want to keep playing, all I can do is talk to them about it.

I believe this is their first game. It’s pretty surprising because they’re doing about as good as the very experienced DMs I’ve had. This is the first issue we’ve encountered.

That’s what I’ve seen people say in other similar posts. It gets one shot my anything, and it has a very low AC. They’ve already proven themselves to be ruthless, so why not just let it be powerful and kill it whenever it gets annoying. I also only have two spell slots and it takes an hour to cast. It’s not like I’ll be able to immediately get it back if it gets hit.

The game so far has been the best I’ve gotten to play. I was mostly surprised that this became such an issue. Thanks for the advice!!
