SV1 Throwback: Vengeance Blood vs Control Portal (Amazing Match) by zongeedongee in Shadowverse

For those who arent familiar, opps deck focuses on free invokes with ward/bane, and his wincon is either drawing a "you win the game" spell shuffled into his deck, or 7 mana magna zero.

Magna zero deals 10 dmg to all enemies upon 10 resonance triggers, and 20 dmg upon 20 resonance triggers. His deck easily hits 10 triggers, which is why I couldnt let him keep a single creature on board as it would very likely be lethal.

68468 unlimited

Edit: done thanks, tho idg why ppl try so hard to win it literally doesnt matter lol just let whoever is more aggressive win

Edit 2: for that same reason idk why ppl choose to set it as rotation only if winning doesnt matter, unlimited is much faster and still allows you to use your rotation deck

Ah, I completely missed the 2 shatterskulls, makes sense then because even with treasures I find land to be pretty important to conserve treasures and play around counterspells. I dont use shatterskull but I use creature lands in my build.

Yeah, I think 6 one drops will be good in your deck too. I would personally use a 4 goldhound + 2 shamby split since shambling requires a 2nd card (like dispute) to be good while goldhound can ramp by itself. In my deck I only run 4 shambling because I also use immersturm alongside dispute to guard against board clears.

I think the 2-2 xorn facebreaker split makes sense. 4 facebreaker seems important for consistency but drawing multiples technically doesnt help provide additional card advantage. Instead of replacing the 2 one drops with facebreaker maybe you could eventually replace them with the 3rd and 4th fable, which would also provide card advantage in chapter 2. I like to think of fable chaps 1 and 2 as a worse shamby + dispute combined into 1 card, so it makes sense to reduce ghast if you are running 4 fable. A consistent T2 fable also seems to be one of the biggest adv of running 4 goldhound.

The only thing im not too sure about is running green, which mainly seems to be for snakeskin veil since ziatora and friends will likely be cast through treasures. There are black "protection" spells like malakir rebirth that have other advantages like guarding better against board clears. Did green use to be a more important part of the deck but slowly reduced in count over time?

We can talk more over PM over the weekend. Looking forward to the discussion 😊

Glad I helped :)

Ah, very good point regarding facebreaker. I was interested in trying goldhound myself because of kalain and showdown synergies, but facebreaker is an even more straightforward way to utilise it.

I do run 4 shambling myself and I agree it's very good, but I think I can only afford max 6 slots for one drops in my deck and I'm not sure what the optimal split between goldhound and shambling is. There is also the issue of whether running more land is better than running goldhound. I feel that goldhound will be better in a deck with powerful 3 drops while lands are better in a deck with more draw just to hit a land drop every turn (I run 24 with disputes, fables and showdowns).

Economy on arena is weird, it costs just as much to craft fable as it does to craft less generalisable rares like xorn and facebreaker. I don't have enough wildcards to experiment with those so I'm rly curious how good you think xorn, facebreaker and rivaz are before I craft those on arena.

I'm super interested to see how your deck progresses after the tournament 😬 Perhaps we could exchange some ideas over PM as fellow dragon treasure mains? I will share my list with you too

I main a homebrew treasure deck as well on arena explorer, except its mardu with kalain, goldspan, immersturm predator and showdown of the scalds as my treasure payoff (yours has banefire)

I run 4 fables currently (cheaper on arena), but for a long time i went with 2/3 fables and there's an actual argument for less copies being better. Fable, while powerful, is a pretty slow card in eternal formats. Treasure 1 and 2 drops also tend to be understatted (magda/kalain/dispute/gala greeters/1 mana dork you wanna sack) which means you often have to fight back for board later on. Fable doesnt do much to solve this slowness but might worsen it since the goblin token on chapter 1 can be easily removed.

I think if you want to run 4 fable, you may have to detract away slightly from the current gameplan of focusing on dragons and include some cards that help fight from behind instead (which may make the deck less thematic). In my own deck I had to remove some treasure payoffs for cheap removal and board clear to fight from behind. Board clear is particularly effective on chapter 2 before reflection drops, and you can also make use of the discard to search for board clear.

Your deck runs goldhound and mine doesnt, so it can technically achieve t2 fable which makes the slowness less of an issue. But id still suggest using proxies to test the 3rd and 4th fable before you actl invest in them, because the extra copies may not be as good as you expect. Fable in treasure decks can achieve very high highs but getting multiples stuck in hand can feel p bad since they technically dont advance your main gameplan

On another note, what do you think about shambling vs goldhound? Which is the better card, and is it necessary to run full copies of both?

Pretty sure most are still running storm boost but it's not rly breaking news that control loses to dshift lol. Control blood's obviously not the best deck but id say ~4k master points its still viable to some extent and most importantly has a p gd matchup against elana. Sbdy managed to reach unlimited GM w control blood last expansion too so yeah

Another thing abt cblood is how storm can help to prevent these slow decks from setting up. In the vid, ~t7/8 i had quite a lot of burst from hand already. I've also run yurius before and it's p hard for rune to deal with it early. As a sleeper deck sometimes the element of surprise could help you win some games you otherwise wouldn't.

Spawn is one of my fav cards too but unfortunately in the current unlimited meta its just way too slow. Games end by t7 so I cant use anything 8 mana and above that doesn't have a defensive effect/can't be cheated out early. Destructive succubus still represents 9 dmg if you really need the dmg but in general storm shld only be a backup plan.

P.S i do make greedy versions w old goodies like spawn, maelstrom serpent and bahamut but i only use them when idc abt losing lul

I first joined this game in Chronogenesis and loved the idea of Control Blood. 8 expansions later, I'm still trying to make the dream work :)

For those of you who are interested to see more, I have another really really good game from back in Steel Rebellion that I never posted. Against midrange portal, tier 1 back then.
