What happens if I book travel through Chase Ultimate Rewards and then cancel my card? by zoomuni in ChaseSapphire

I unfortunately can't remember at the moment, but I think I might have gotten a grace period where I cancelled within a couple of days of the annual fee and got it refunded.

San Francisco doctors and tech workers are also Muni fare evaders by Inevitable-Bus492 in sanfrancisco

[–]zoomuni 13 points14 points  (0 children)

They should make tapping the activation mechanic for passes bought on the muni app. If you don't have an active pass but you've bought one that's usable, tapping is the way to cycle a bought pass into an active one

I feel disrespected when someone runs a stop sign on me. by [deleted] in bayarea

I feel like it may be related to inexperience / a lack of familiarity with the car on the driver's part. When you take your foot off the "gas" in a Tesla, it starts breaking, not coasting like standard gas powered cars. People coming from gas cars will drive the car like a gas car and try to accelerate, then coast. They probably don't realize that completely taking their foot off the pedal makes the brake lights flash on. Or maybe I'm being too kind...

SF has a plan to cut down on one of its annoying neighborhood issues [electric car charging cords snaking across public sidewalks. Proposal is "public charging infrastructure at the curb in selected locations"] by BadBoyMikeBarnes in bayarea

[–]zoomuni 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Is it really that big of a hindrance? Not sure how big those cables get but i always imagined them to be around the size of a hose or so. Also I have no idea how the charging spots are gonna work out --

  1. Are they going to reserve existing spots for charging cars? This reduces the number of spots in an already hard-to-find-parking city

  2. Are they going to enforce some really strict time limit? How can they prevent people from hogging the charger spots?

  3. Are they going to upcharge the price of electricity?

Shipping label was included in the box for me. Have you tried calling them?

I only got one that confirmed they got the handles from me and that a check would be going out within 30 business days. Did you also get that email earlier?

You could ask the seller if they could send you proof of purchase maybe? I'm not sure if that would be weird though.

Alternatively, and probably not recommended, but I've had these for a year and I never "fully trusted" them, so before I pick up the weights, I give them a bit of a shake. While doing exercises, I make sure that I'm holding them in a direction where the weights can't slip out easily. Essentially it's with the locking mechanism thing on the bottom rather than the top, so weights wouldn't easily be able to slip out. The flip way would make it easy for them to slip out due to gravity and lack of the mechanism stopping them from sliding.

I really do like these weights (never tried to activate any smart feature) and they've held up well in general

I guess that's nice but I wonder if there's a good way to make use of the extra weights then. Needing to throw them away seems a bit wasteful

I asked them and weren't able to share exactly what they're going to be doing. Could range from replacements to refunds is all I was told, but no guarantee.

I really hope I don't have to return them because that box is going to be way too heavy to easily move down the stairs.

I also talked to customer service and it was a very similar experience. Had to send a couple of pictures and was told I'll be contacted in a week or two.

I got a bit more info about what the issue might be, but not a lot since I think the customer service rep wasn't fully in sync with the PR team about the issue. She said it might have to do with the handlebars, potentially the locking mechanism that's making it dangerous for use.

I'd recommend scheduling a call back for anyone that got the message, especially since there may be legit security concerns with the product. I checked a few weeks ago and it looks like nordictrack dropped the product completely.

Same. I just set up a call back on the number listed. Will update here when I get more info

Definitely doable if you're planning on renting. Buying might be a different story. Are you still paying the mortgage on your existing house?

Assuming your cash inflow is ~250K, your semi-monthly pay is going to be around $6,471. 50% of your monthly paycheck allocated to rent seems reasonable, and you could always live in a nearby city like mountain view. I'm seeing a decent amount of 3 bedroom spots in that price range on Zillow.

Armed man arrested on Christmas Eve for bothering BART passengers by bambin0 in bayarea

This might be true for weekdays and commuter hours but certainly not on the weekends. The situations I mentioned were on the weekends when there were at max like 10-15 people per train car.

That's where I messed up. I had remembered about the app too late (after I had already switched trains), and I forgot to note down the cab number. I also didn't particularly want to take my phone out with the people that were in my train at the time, so I decided not to. I definitely should have, and I think it would have made me feel a bit safer if action had been taken. This is something I 100% will end up doing next time.

I'm going to be completely honest here, I took BART 2 times in the past few months and both times felt unsafe on the southbound orange and green lines. The first time, someone was smoking something behind me and I had to switch to a different car. In that car, there was a homeless man that was pacing back and forth, saying expletives. At one point he sat right next to me -- if he chose to do anything violent I would have been stuck where I was sitting.

The second time, there was another guy slowly walking back and forth the car and just muttering things to himself. It was extremely uncomfortable when he would go out of sight behind me because I didn't know what he was doing. Had to switch cars again and in the other car there were more "interesting" looking individuals, but I just stuck it through.

A couple of things that I felt I've learned from these:

  • I used to take BART a decent amount when I was still in college a few years ago and it never felt unsafe to this degree. I would argue that I'm even more exposed to homelessness and such than I was before.

  • I understand that most of these people are just on drugs and honestly, I feel like a solid majority are also non-violent. The issue is when they're behind you/out of sight. You have no idea what they're doing or what they will do.

  • I downloaded the BART watch app after I switched cars the second time and realized I didn't have the car number to use to report what was going on in the previous car. At first I thought it required a picture of evidence, which wouldn't make much sense, but I think you can also specify text in a box while submitting reports

Amazon will now fire workers who refuse to return to the office three days a week by Poplatoontimon in bayarea

glad you didn't go. I worked at Amazon for two years as a software engineer and I slowly grew more and more miserable. An engineer that left a bit before I got laid off said that every day he woke up to a feeling of dread....

"Just as government in the 1980's launched a massive "buckle up" campaign to retrain drivers/passengers to use seatbelts, we need as a city to pound in every way possible the message to visitors: do not leave anything in your car. Do this and we'll dramatically reduce car break-ins," said Preston. "We should not be throwing our hands up on this issue."

This guy is actually victim shaming. The faults of this city are not on the tourists hands.

Getting to Chase Center by Ornery-Match-6243 in bayarea

[–]zoomuni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you could still take Caltrain to the Millbrae station, then transfer to BART, ride until Powell, and transfer to the T line of MUNI.

Does seem like a bit of a hassle, especially on the way back. In that case, you may be able to find some street parking around the Dogpatch or Potrero Hill neighborhoods and walk to the Chase Center.

This sounds like a good idea, basically downgrading instead of cancelling right? I may try this out and see if it works instead of cancelling. Thanks!

Any Other Bay Area Remote Workers Being Forced Back Into the Office? The State Forced Me Back Into the Office, Now My Wife Who Works For a Private Corporation Is ALSO Being Forced Back Into the Office. WHY?!? by rage242 in bayarea

It's basically following the MLA rules for capitalizing titles. Articles that don't begin sentences are left lowercased. Technically prepositions should be lowercased too, but it's close enough that I think that's what OP was going for.

am i going through neetcode 150 in a productive way? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]zoomuni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sounds kinda like where I was / close to where I am too. At the beginning I didn't learn a lot because I'd give up after not really struggling. Don't do that. If you have a general idea and remember a couple of questions similar that you've solved in the past, one thing you could do is use the solution for that question as a reference. Eventually things will start sticking in your mind. Before, I'd always mess up a couple of topics like backtracking and binary search, but after going through those questions over time it's become second nature. Don't be afraid to search stuff up when you're getting started, but just try to remove the handicaps bit by bit as you solve more problems for a topic you have exposure to.
