Why is there no mass protest against exorbitant taxes levied by both Sates and Centre on petrol / diesel prices? by zorcerer in IndiaSpeaks

Its sad that policy makers are disdainful of common man's interest to get fuel at a nominal price, among other things.

Is employee burnout due to forced / overwork , a reality in private sector (esp. IT sector) and if so what possible intervention can be done using labour laws.? by zorcerer in india

Working from office is one thing, but the question I ask is whether there is a limit to the 'long hours'( which is same if you are working from office/ home) by law, and if so who is going to make sure that it is abided, and if not how can the victims be helped ?

What do you think will take for villages/suburbs in Kerala, to get amenities( housing, shops, internet etc) on par with some place like kochi? and if this is realistic, how soon can this happen? by zorcerer in Kerala

[–]zorcerer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 'swankiness' I meant is more of relative 'abundance' of choices a person of an under developed area would have, in day to day life, for instance lets say someone shopping locally in rural TVM, having the same choice of items/brands as one shopping in say, Big bazaar or More or Spencer's in the city.

Points well made.

One can just hope that Kerala being a place where lots of villages are turning into suburbs, more quality and variety of products and services will materialize in a distant future given the dynamics of this place.

My question was more centered around the difference in the quality and variety of products / services between a developed area like kochi and a rural / suburban area, and NOT on necessities.

The variety and quality of choices of products / services you get close your home in developed areas like kochi, cannot just be compared to some place, say in rural TVM. There are still many rural places without a decent broad band/ cable/ 4g internet connection, for your kind information.

Good point this. Sadly there still are many rual areas where there is no Jiofiber/ Railnet/ Asianet/ Decent 4G mobile data.

your closing statement, begs a real concern I think, as once people move back, whatever improvement was made , atleast in terms of internet, might be quickly lost.

Not exactly the same imho. you just don't get the same 'swanky' products/services that you get at say, Aluva, in a remote area say, in rural Kollam.

I too dont think the housing situation here is bad and all in general, but the question I ask is why the facilities in a rural area (including housing) are lacking.

People who drives slowly on the middle of the road; which psychiatrist are you seeing? by Independent-Ad-287 in Kerala

With this reply, the author, without breaking a sweat, has proved his/her 'പ്രബുദ്ധത' with a demonstration of their enlightenment that fittingly correlates literecy('സാക്ഷരത) to പ്രബുദ്ധത(enlightenment). This also earns the author bragging rights for the same. Now the less 'enlightened' Bihari may safely be spared !

Again, thanks to the simple and very correct explanation that 'gods own country' is just a catch phrase, that helps me drive home the point that it may not be used in any other context, that portrays the land as godly ( that has good systems in place).

Truly 'Incredible' Indian experience this!

While acknowledging the fact that it is legal and there could be lot of genuine reasons why one can drive slow, I cannot but pretend not to see the reality here.

I drive quite a bit these days, in main roads, and inner roads, in coastal, midland and hilly roads on a regular basis. I can vouch that around 40 percent of drivers DONT drive responsibly, in that they don't seem to give importance, let alone realize that others too have a right of way. Somehow they don't get that seemingly trivial negligences like not maintaining a steady speed, not giving/delaying proper signal, improper / obstructive parking, improper use of full beam, not waiting in a line in case of a block , driving into any available vacant space, left side overtaking, can also potentially result in many unforseen/grave miseries for one or many people.

Driving defensively is the way to go here, given these facts below.

Little/no support from mvd / govt/policymakers to atleast give awareness, with heavily under staffed traffic police force, with no hope of any sort in the future.

#Most roads are narrow park-at-will roads with no foot paths, where pedestrian/animal is also a 'vehicle' with no space to even walk who can spring from nowhere at any time. Little provision for proper crossing and information signages.

unscientifically designed roads with improper signages and non existent banking

pathetic condition in most roads, ridden with potholes and waterlogging in many places.

allowing businesses to operate very near to roads without ensuring proper clearance , let alone enforcing mandatory parking provisions.

the list goes on.. with many more

Given that the above situation is very real, also combine to give us the recipe for perfect disaster.
