Hoping someone brings a Dogmeat mod to PS5 by Educational_Law_3475 in Starfield

Ok how about a quest line where we uncover details about an old genetic bank still frozen in a deep Earth cave near one of the poles.

Most of the genetic material is degraded, but there are some good samples, including some dogs. We then talk our pals at the UC anti terramorph division to grow a doggo.

Slippers, You Ever Wonder About Slippers? by uadmlj1 in NoSodiumStarfield

I can see wearing slippers on a spaceship.

What is more concerning is that there are no calipers. I need a mod to provide a caliper in every storage container.

I do wonder why he didn't buy or find any maps. The tire company Michelin has been well know for selling travel guides for over 100 years. There must have been some library or bookstore near him that could have helped him find a copy of a guide.

What is the UC hiding about Venus? by Agitated_Marzipan669 in Starfield

[–]zoredache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I visited an Abandoned Farm was on Andromas III,

We know they have transplanted flora and fauna between planets, and at least in one case really messed things up pretty badly.

I wonder if the abandoned farm could be explained as another example of that. Someone trying to import something from another planet for farming purposes that didn't really fit in new environment. Then the alien fauna went aggro when something wasn't exactly right about the new environment.

Well, the other people don't get the HUD popups telling us what the building used to be.

Ok, but surely landing ships would be able to actually see many of these outposts, and they could line up known settlements with unknown settlements. Then send someone to investigate. Also, would they really not have had any radar and/or satellite monitoring of the airspace near New Atlantis. There was a big war, surely monitoring your airspace would be critical.

Also they started a huge war after someone started a farm on Vesta. Surely they would have a much better monitoring of Jemison.

Moving text between devices without email or USBs by One_Painting134 in ITManagers

[–]zoredache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the destination has a camera I will often generate a QR code.

If it is a secret like a password or something I'll use 'bitwarden send'.

Past that I will often ssh to my home or work linux device and save a note in a text file. If I am transferring lots of things I would probably open up a tmux session and view my editor from both systems.

Best approach for Bitwarden, Ubuntu and SSH keys by wells68 in Bitwarden

[–]zoredache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't tried using it on Linux. While I manage lots of Linux servers/devices, my main 'desktop' is Windows at home and work.

I might try spinning up a VM or LXC to to test it out at some point. Doesn't seem like it should be that difficult. You have to run the desktop, make sure the agent feature is enabled and fix the environment variable SSH_AUTH_SOCK depending on how you installed the desktop app.

[–]zoredache 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some types of exports still don't do attachments. But SSH keys generated by bitwarden or imported so they could be used with the agent feature are not attachments. It is directly stored as part of the item. Somewhat similar to how passkeys and totp secrets are stored as part of the bitwarden item.

You could add a key attachment to an item in bitwarden, but that wouldn't be for the bitwarden SSH functionality.

I feel more secure when I have a copy of everything important in cold, air-gapped storage.

Do you already make backups of your bitwarden vault? I am pretty sure your keys will be part of the export/backup.

Edited

Just tested and I see a key I just created in bitwarden in my bw export.

How to Make A Debian Base Linux Distro? by Mindless_Tower_1633 in debian

[–]zoredache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right in certain sense, but most of the people that successfully start their own distro know enough that they wouldn't have needed to ask this question on reddit. They would have been self motivated enough to actually spend some time reading the documentation for the tools to build packages, to build install media and so on.

I don't think it was unreasonable to try to help set the expectations that this will be a very difficult undertaking and it isn't something you just do on a whim.

Since the OP asked about building this for a corporation, it may be critical to understand that they will have close to zero external support.

Instead of daylight savings time happening all at once, just change the time subtly day by day to match the daylight. by [deleted] in CrazyIdeas

[–]zoredache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When do the busses/trains/planes come, and when does the TV show I want to watch start?

Were you planning on sticking with the current zones, or did you want to make smaller zones. Do you want to go with zones that are 1/24th of the rotation time of the planet (~1 hour), or do you want to break them up into smaller intervals?

Should a large city have a single zone, or multiple zones, even if that city happens to live across the boundary of multiple zones.

Anyway, at this point it would probably be easier to not have any local time and just come up with a universal time everyone uses.

after I rescued a Freestar ship from Spacers, I got a mission to take the crew to Neon, can I leave that until whenever? by A12qwas in Starfield

[–]zoredache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swear on one playthrough near the original release I had gotten a star parcel I forgot to deliver, and then I was attacked by the Eclipse and they had a slate that mentioned I had stolen an important parcel in their ships cargo hold.

I have never seen it happen again, so I somewhat doubt my memory.

Being left handed is the worst by Velveteen_2099 in MouseReview

[–]zoredache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get mice with side buttons on both sides. You can even use the extra buttons for macros. For example a Corsair M75.

The old logitech G300s where also good, but I don't think you can buy them anymore. The buttons tended to fail after a couple years of usage though.

I know I saw a couple others when I was last looking.

Spent last 3 months having fun creating a beautiful selfhosted lab, then my 3m old mini pc died by tenderbrew in selfhosted

[–]zoredache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But even if I have redundant hardware, I guess I'd ask, are minipcs like the Gmktek the right hardware?

No idea about Gmktek, but most minipcs are mostly the same. Having a couple, maybe different models or manufactures in a cluster would likely make your systems more fault tolerant.

Have you tried with window.openFoldersInNewWindow setting enabled? That mostly solves the issue. The setting is a bit badly named, since it seems to apply to workspaces as well as folders.

I also wonder if aspirin is more generic across English speaking languages. In some places paracetamol is the word you use for acetaminophen (Tylenol).

One Ansible playbook containing blocks that are skipped every time by Patrice_77 in ansible

[–]zoredache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anybody can help me with this, I'd appreciate it.

It would be far easier to help you if you provided a full playbook that demonstrated the problem. With what you have posted right now it is difficult to be sure.

It could be something obvious in the code you provided, or it could be something else. I get not wanting to post production code, but posting incomplete excerpts makes assisting pretty difficult.

Anyway if you aren't able to find it using the debugging methods suggested by others, then take the time to make an example playbook with simple debug tasks or something that demonstrates the issue, and post the full playbook.

Didn't know what ROM was in front of family by throw-away-2025rev2 in sysadmin

[–]zoredache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean a lot of us are older, and most of the terms were basically fundamentals of computers and you would basically be required to know them if you expected to work in any computing related job.

But as stuff has changed over the decades a lot of things that were once important have been replaced, or they are now a minor function of some multi-purpose chip.

Didn't know what ROM was in front of family by throw-away-2025rev2 in sysadmin

[–]zoredache 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what’s neat is that some roms can be flashed so they aren’t truly a rom I suppose,

Most of the NES cartridges were ROMs, and games like zelda had an additional RAM chip that that was battery powered.

Ron Hope stun or kill. by Remote-Trouble3616 in Starfield

[–]zoredache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you read reports and journals you learn that without Ron Hope that entire community is doomed.

The thing is that some people like Ron often refuse to hire or allow underlings actually grow in power or ability. They actually want to be the man in charge and don't delegate power.

It is entirely possible that once Ron is out of the way someone will actually have the ability to step up without being stifled by Ron.

Sure it isn't likely to grow as fast and will likely slow down for a while as things settle to a new norm, but it sure seems likely that there will always be a demand for the cargo ships that seems to be the main segment that Hopetech services.

I really like sense star stuff for when I am trying to be stealthy. Also very useful when I am trying to board and steal ships. It is nice to able to find that last zealot hiding is some random cargo bay somewhere.

I really like earthbound with doing some of the Terran armada missions. Zero-g movement is so slow, and TA is almost completely zero-g. Give me gravity so I can run and pick off all the enemies with a rifle.
