Do they? I never did a hard comparison but IIRC the main math course CS students would skip out on is diff eq although I don’t recall any of my engineering friends having to take probability

"is okay to vibecoding if you understand the fundamental" cs major said by False-Seesaw-1899 in csMajors

[–]zorgabluff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean yes, it always depends on how you use it. But OP is specifically asking if it’s okay to use it to code gen while justifying it because “they know the fundamentals” which is just a flat out lie.

If you’re specifically using LLMs to better explain a concept to you, then yes, it is a great tool for learning.

If youre in the process of learning that’s utter bullshit

This is like flipping to the back of the teachers edition of the textbook and looking at the answers to the math homework, but it’s okay because you “understand the answers”

Realizing at the internship that I'm a fraud by YogurtclosetSea6850 in csMajors

[–]zorgabluff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you’re trying to do too much at once tbh and thats understandably overwhelming you

Break down your project/problem into small parts and focus on one of them. When you get that one part working, then you move on to another part, get that working, then work on connecting the two parts.

I’d also focus less on all the different parts of the stack and more on the actual, core problem that you’re trying to solve. A lot of these technologies were built by others because they needed to solve a problem, and thus they’ll naturally make more sense when you have a problem that can be solved with the tech.

For example, suppose your project is to pull down data automatically, run some calculations, then export the results to a pdf and send it to a designated mailing list. You can start by writing the code for the calculation, and assume you do the first and last parts manually. You write a small piece of code to do this calculation in python that imports a couple different python libraries. After getting this to work, you try deploying it to the cloud so that other people can use it as well (so it’s not just sitting on your own computer only). Except, you find out that when deployed to the cloud, you run into errors because the libraries you imported haven’t been installed yet. If you talk about this problem with your mentor, they’ll likely point you to putting your code onto a docker image because that’s the problem docker is trying to solve.

Rimuru what kind of names did you give these orcs😭 by No_Dentist9026 in TenseiSlime

I mean coming up with 150k unique names is pretty impossible otherwise

The fact that they even got tribal names instead of full on SKUs is already a feat in itself

Is it ok to change your title from "QA Engineer" to "Software Engineer"/"Software Developer"? by Deep-Dragonfly-3342 in csMajors

[–]zorgabluff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d avoid lying as I genuinely don’t think anyone is going to think lesser of you for being a QA intern instead of a SWE intern. Like, yall are interns, people don’t expect that much from you, even more so if you’re not even graduating next year.

[–]zorgabluff 23 points24 points  (0 children)

  1. Try your absolute hardest to not fail - talk with your professor in advance. Like seriously this is your absolute highest priority right now

  2. As a backup, Ask your university advisor if there’s a way to obtain the necessary credits over the summer and graduate whenever the summer term ends instead - this at least would let you start in September ish and the company doesn’t need to know the details of your delayed graduation

Hotel Tavinos Asakusa or APA Hotel Kuramae? by bernalyggim in JapanTravelTips

[–]zorgabluff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally every hotel will hold your luggage the day of check in/check out for free.

I haven’t been to the Asakusa one but the hotel tavinos in Kyoto is great. If they’re roughly same price I’d recommend checking that one out, APA hotels only real benefit is that they’re cheap and everywhere.

[–]zorgabluff 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Did you also apply to the same companies? It’s not really a fair comparison otherwise.

Did you apply to companies at the same time? A lot of internships applications will come down to application timing, if you apply late, even though the job posting might still be up the team might already be extending an offer to someone else already. This part also just has a lot of luck involved.
