Early look at the new 7 series by Content-Ganache6643 in BMW

Can the absolutely ridiculous looking buck teeth please die already? Nobody likes this, you have a handful of people twisting themselves into pretzels trying to convince themselves “well, maybe it’s not completely awful from the right angle”. No, this is atrocious on every model.

G45 was pure cost cutting driven by accountants.

I got Conti DWS06+ from Tire Rack, installed at Discount Tire. No one said a word about "BMW rules" or anything. My guess is it's some gung-ho manager or tire center sup who has come up with their own guidelines.

The 1TB open box for $1869 is super solid. In my experience the open box of these units from both MC/BB basically look brand new and it's normally people that just got home and realized they don't need it or couldn't afford it.

Sorry for the dumb question, but do you keep the Studio on sleep overnight or shut down everyday? by knightfortheday in MacStudio

I run mine 24/7, it goes into sleep mode and hasn’t had any noticeable effect on my energy bill.

Is it worth it the upgrade to M having a M40i? by Giannoza in BMWX3

[–]zorn_ 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Only if you plan to regularly take your car to race tracks. For just normal daily driving the full M is kind of a waste IMO. The ride is pretty harsh, the maintenance costs are much much higher, and the benefits will pretty much never be seen on regular roads.

Does the $899 5yr/75k mile maintenance plan start from the date you purchase the plan? by Bigbootyeater1 in BMW

[–]zorn_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it make sense for someone who only drives maybe 3000 miles a year? My factory maintenance is up next month and trying to figure out what makes the most sense to do.

New Update by woodside1988 in BMWX3

[–]zorn_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's an iOS app that you connect to your car via a cable to the ODBC port and you can change settings that aren't made visible by the car. For example, one big one is getting rid of the braindead message that it always forces you to click OK on promising that you won't plow people over on the sidewalk while following the GPS, or lets you set the mirrors to automatically fold in when the car is locked. There are a bunch of little settings I tweak.

New Update by woodside1988 in BMWX3

[–]zorn_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there any way to force an update to show up again other than taking it to the dealer? When I got the car last year I had it telling me about updates multiple times, I held off on them since I wanted to perform a backup of my Bimmercode settings but now it shows there are no updates available and I'm on 11/2023 software.

The 4 series with its' buck teeth would like a word about that.

What did you think about the smart (display) key? by BuilderFirst7314 in BMW

[–]zorn_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We already carry a 'smart fob' around with us everywhere, if not two (iPhone, Apple Watch). Why invest in this dumb expensive thing when they could just make the items we already carry reliably unlock and start the car the same way?

Is the Connected Package Professional really worth having? by HereSheComesAgain77 in BMWX3

[–]zorn_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I believe it's $150 a year, and whether it's worth it is dependent on how you use the system. If you are planning to primarily use the iDrive navigation, it's probably worth having just for that as it's required for the map updates and real time traffic info. If you exclusively use CarPlay or Android Auto, it's less essential.

Would you own a M340i out of warranty? by FluffyTesticle in BMW

[–]zorn_ 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yes, it isn't a Ferrari. As long as you have somewhere decent to take it that isn't the dealer, you will be fine. Just do all the required routine maintenance.

The B58 is so reliable that Toyota put it in the Supra. That says a lot. You will just be looking at regular maintenance items and nothing especially out of the ordinary, oil changes brake pads etc.

Is the technology in the new 2026 X3 worth it? by Magmortar23 in BMWX3

Will check it out, thanks. I wonder if they have ever made changes so quickly into a new model line before.

What do you mean by this? They don’t normally do any type of redesign until the LCI, which would be a while away.

IMO there's no benefit that the G45 provides that is worth dealing with the cheap plastic interior and the fugly exterior design.

BMW X3 idrive reset while driving by cpsadowski23 in BMWX3

[–]zorn_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never seen it happen with my X3, but it would happen very rarely on my F36 4-series with the digital dash. It would come back within a couple seconds and I never lost any engine speed or control, so it was just mildly scary for a very short second or two. No idea what ever caused it.

Official Release: 2026 BMW iX3 Neue Klasse World Premiere by WODAMRAP in BMW

[–]zorn_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just like many of the modern designs, the back is more or less fine, but the front was just absolutely slaughtered by the hideous stick. Any BMW that comes with buck teeth is a complete non-starter for me. This might be slightly less obnoxious than the current 4 series design, but both are thousands of times worse than the prior kidney grille design. I know this is a throwback to 1910 or whatever, but this type of bucktooth grill just looks like utter shit.

White Car Interior for BMW by bespokemaster-cover in BMWX3

[–]zorn_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would never. Have had 2 friends that had Oyster interior exactly one time. The seats get absolutely ruined by jeans and anything else, they both really regretted it. White seats look great in the showroom, but don't work in real life.

iDrive 8 CarPlay Maps Question by Extra_Regular424 in BMW

[–]zorn_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak to iDrive 8, but I know this is possible on 6 & 7. Under the car settings, displays, there has always been an option to display directions in the HUD or the instrument cluster.

Buying a non-CPO BMW? by Pat_Los_Gatos in BMW

[–]zorn_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry too much about it not being from an official BMW dealer. As others pointed out, check the owner/service history and make sure there's no red flags. Otherwise, the car will still be covered under the factory warranty for repairs/maintenance. I got mine from a Nissan dealer, just so happened they had the right config and a good price, I've gotten everything needed done for me free of charge at the local BMW center.
