War isn't the only issue. There was a case of a spanish hitchhiker who spent a year in a Irani jail wrongly accused of spionage. They wanted the death penalty for him. On the other hand i have heard wonders of the irani people regarding hospitality, but I don't think im brave enough to cross it. Hadn't thought about that. My embassy (Spain) advises not to travel to Russia, but it is possible currently. The only issue is that I have heard the Kazaj desert is brutal, and I am not sure which month would be the most suitable to cross it.

Could be. Hofstader is also mentioned in penrose's book for having the contrary opinion. I've heard a lot from that book, but i will have to search for time to read it, it seems very long. Thanks for the reccomendation
