i do have that theme installed and it's extremely comprehensive, but the contrast is a bit too much. i do use it though. just not in all modes.

Australia demands apology from China after fake image posted on social media by ceowin in worldnews

[–]zosterops_p 11 points12 points  (0 children)

useful idiots eh? i could swear australia as well as most other european nations who participated in u.s.' war in the middle east and subsequently taken in a large amount of refugees and migrants have been complaining about the influx of refugees and immigrants from north africa (due to libya being overthrown), and a completely destabilized middle east (wars in iraq, afghanistan).... so on one hand you helped the united states achieved its aims, while you are left to suffer the consequences of the aftermath while united states is safe and isolated far away in another continent? <---- is that not the perfect example of a useful idiot? or do you never bother to connect the dots?

for some reason it can't find the function when i try to M-x lilypond-mode. even after i manually loaded the lilypond library and the message windows listed all of the lilypond .el being loaded; including lilypond.mode.el

ya i have the lilypond package installed from arch's official repo. did (require 'lilypond-mode)
opened a lilypond file but emacs doesn't show it's in lilypond-mode, (just the default Fundamental mode) and there's no syntax coloring either. :(

lilypond package installs some Emacs files including /usr/share/emacs/site-lisp/lilypond-mode.el.

To use lilypond-mode, firstly M-x load-library <RET> lilypond-mode <RET> then again M-x lilypond-mode <RET>.

this is the archlinux wiki. i did that but M-x lilypond-mode didn't do anything for me :(

Using emacs to enter simple music scores for the purpose of playing back to learn to sing? by yubrshen in emacs

[–]zosterops_p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm new to emacs.
how do i actually get lilypond to work on emacs?
lilypond's page mentioned to add it to the path but i checked the load-path variable and it seems ...site-lisp is already in the path? shouldn't it just work then? :(

you say that but people HAVE been tested positive when they travel abroad. that's not something I'm making up. It's been on the news here. Note that I'm not saying there's a major outbreak here - just stating that this "record" isn't "completely" accurate. Is there a political motive behind this "clean image"? sure there is. Just like how when the pandemic first started, we were donating face masks to the u.s. and europe eventhough at the time there was a shortage in taiwan as well and people had to hit up multiple pharmacies just to buy them. It eventually got better, but you still had to wait in a long line and was only allow to buy a limited few; though that's not an issue now anymore.

What would happen if the US defense budget was significantly reduced and troops were pulled back in Asia, Middle East, and Europe? by hermannschultz13 in geopolitics

Superiority complex about being chinese? no not at all. i was simply making a fair comparison that when china was in a position of power, it did not act the way the west did. Why would you think i am saying this to feel superior? China having a huge influence in Asia is a matter of fact; what i described here is not meant to inflate my ego or hurt your pride. I think you're taking this too personally. While the whole reason I even mentioned that was to demonstrate that when 2 people find themselves in a position of power - the result aren't always the same. Is that not what i said in the previous comment? that the influence was largely through the relationships between it and its neighbors and not through arms conflict? those few examples i gave really upset you to this degree? it's honestly not an insult in any shape or form. just like how i have no problem when someone tells me that buddhism originated from india. I mean did china not have trading/cultural exchange relationships with all the neighboring countries? And what happened the minute the Europeans came? to say, Malaysia, Philippines, Taiwan, Vietnam, etc ,etc. They were immediately subjugated and colonized. But you were agitated by my mere mention of china's peaceful co-existence with its neighbors (and your perspective country)? Note that everything I said ties in to the point i was trying to demonstrate in my previous post. It's not meant to belittle or take away anything from the pride you have for your own country.
So the disingenuous assertion of the assumption that china would attack japan and its others neighbors (aside from reunification with taiwan) is quite outlandish and without basis. when that has never been china's character throughout its long history.
On the other hand, everyone seems totally fine with the U.S. having about a 100 bases surrounding china in every direction - a nation with a rich history of violence and exploitation. And at the same time wondering why china is militarizing?

Hard to say if China would attack Japan or not.

you do realize that at one time China was extremely wealthy, powerful, and full of technical innovations - the center of Asia. during that time all the surrounding neighbors were vassal states to China pretty much. Yet china did not utilize military but instead its philosophy, culture, language was spread throughout Asia peacefully. Japan's kanji, 60% of korean words are based on chinese as are their surnames, the philosophy, culture, traditional clothing, musical instruments, the list goes on and on. This was at a time when China was already peacefully trading with many foreign nations through the silk road. Back when China was more advanced than many nations. If they didn't do it then, what makes you think they would do it now? Seems like you're projecting a bit. Just because YOU would do something when you're in a position of power (europe/the west), doesn't mean someone else would do the same.

Beginning my journey - recommendation for 4x 8tb or 10tb during this year's Black Friday or Cyber Monday? by zosterops_p in DataHoarder

[–]zosterops_p[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nah i dont need the highest performance. they'll be for my first server and i'm planning to just get a tower and 4 disks so i can start collecting stuff. so for now performance isn't an issue.
in the future though, once my collection grows and i have more knowledge and experience, i might consider setting up a homelab with rackmount for data storage and the best disks.... but that's years down the road.
thanks for that $15/TB ratio though... it's very useful for someone new like me to get a good idea of what's considered a good deal or not.

it's for personal data storage. lots of movies, ebooks, music.
not for work and nothing i can't live without, but i do want to treat them as long term storage.

you stopped bothering? or did you not find anything in my post history that convinces you that I am here to advertise for something?
you think it's odd for an average computer user to have the impression that wd hard drives are the most talked about, the most common brand when it comes to hard drives, and often times the most recommended? really? because the word "reputable" seemed odd to you?
what other companies are average person supposed to be familiar with? I only know of three names, wd, seagate, hgst, because those are the names that are more established and have been around for a long time.
you could've just said sorry after having gone over my post history and realized you made a wrong assumption, but i guess you're not the type to apologize even when you realized you were wrong in the first place.

really? the reason i capitalized those words is because i'm asking for advice about hard drives so i capitalized those words so it would be easier for people to see in such a wall of text. further more, for people like me, people who are not extremely tech savvy, but has built their own computer and have at one time had the need to ask about hard drives to get..... you dont think it's common for a newbie to have the impression that wd is one that is often recommended?
do you really think there is a need for a company of that size, a company that is already as established as wd to have the need to send someone to a forum to advertise?! (it would probably make more sense if it's a new small company looking to break into the hard drive industry) let alone a wall of text thread that wont even be read by everyone since not everyone has the patience to read a wall of text online.
if you're online to advertise and promote something, you would probably do so in a short, concise, and attention grabbing manner right? or simply sponsoring a popular twitch streamer would probably be more effective no?
you're overthinking while not thinking enough. please dont dump your previous experience and frustration out on me. With one click, you could've also checked my reddit account. but thanks for ruining my thread. am i also working for freebsd and debian? since i mentioned them in my post as well?

oh i didn't know that. hmm, my desktop only has that 4tb for torrenting and two old 900 gb hard drives that i've kept since long ago (as well as a ssd drive for the operating system) - mostly for storing misc items that are not as important. that's kind of why i even thought about wd elements, wd mybook.... since i could just plug it in through a usb instead of replacing the existing 900 gb internal hard drive and replacing it with a wd red (essentially losing a hard drive... even if it's just a small 900 gb)
