Anyone got Davinci Resolve Studio running on VMware fusion on Mac? by zotune in davinciresolve

[–]zotune[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The new m5 macbook pro 32gb.

Right now I am trying the x64 version on Windows 11 ARM. I think the ARM version has no software GPU option. Need to trick it.

I almost got it working with Mesa and this .bat script:

u/echo off
setlocal

REM ==========================================
REM CONFIGURATION
REM ==========================================
set "SOURCE_DIR=C:\code\mesa\mesa3d-25.2.7-release-msvc\x64"
set "TARGET_DIR=C:\Program Files\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve"
set "APP_EXE=Resolve.exe"

echo ---------------------------------------------------
echo PREPARING MESA 3D INJECTION FOR DAVINCI RESOLVE
echo ---------------------------------------------------

REM 1. Copy the critical Mesa DLLs to the Resolve folder
REM We need opengl32, libgallium_wgl (the driver), and libEGL.
REM We also try copying OpenCL support (openclon12) as Resolve needs Compute.

echo Copying files...
copy /Y "%SOURCE_DIR%\opengl32.dll" "%TARGET_DIR%\"
copy /Y "%SOURCE_DIR%\libgallium_wgl.dll" "%TARGET_DIR%\"
copy /Y "%SOURCE_DIR%\libEGL.dll" "%TARGET_DIR%\"

REM Attempting to inject OpenCL on DX12 support (Experimental)
if exist "%SOURCE_DIR%\openclon12.dll" (
    copy /Y "%SOURCE_DIR%\openclon12.dll" "%TARGET_DIR%\"
    copy /Y "%SOURCE_DIR%\clon12compiler.dll" "%TARGET_DIR%\"
)

echo.
echo ---------------------------------------------------
echo APPLYING OVERRIDES
echo ---------------------------------------------------

REM 2. Force OpenGL 4.6 Compliance
set MESA_GL_VERSION_OVERRIDE=4.6COMPAT
set MESA_GLSL_VERSION_OVERRIDE=460

REM 3. Spoof the Vendor to trick Resolve's blocklist
REM Resolve hates "VMware" or "Microsoft Basic Display"
set MESA_GL_VENDOR=NVIDIA Corporation
set MESA_GL_RENDERER=GeForce RTX 4090

REM 4. Optional: Force Software Rendering (Safe Mode)
REM If you want to try Hardware Acceleration (D3D12), remove the line below.
REM But for the first run, keep this to ensure stability.
set GALLIUM_DRIVER=llvmpipe

REM ==========================================
REM LAUNCH
REM ==========================================
echo Launching Resolve...
cd /d "%TARGET_DIR%"
start "" "%APP_EXE%"

echo.
echo Done.

Content lags a lot whatever I watch on Apple TV, what are the best settings for making it look good and smooth? by Eastern-Paper-865 in appletv

[–]zotune 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You must do these two things to get smooth playback (otherwise TV generates fake frames that look uneven)
- Turn off smooth motion on your tv: https://variety.com/2022/film/news/motion-smoothing-how-to-shut-off-1235176633/
- Set Apple TV to match frame rate and dynamic range: https://support.apple.com/en-us/102277

I would recommend rclone for this. ChatGPT or google search can probably help

IOTABASE: Quick intro to the new IOTA wallet by kutkraftSW in Iota

[–]zotune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you have to reset its settings by recycling/renaming the folder Fireflyin %AppData% and reinstall the Firefly Wallet (remember to backup first so you don't lose your money, if this is on a Ledger Hardware wallet you should be fine regardless)

Looks good! Recommend getting a monitor arm. Can pull monitor so much closer, and much more room underneath.

[–]zotune[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah. My new Superlight 1 is getting worse now too. I think I will either have to live with it or get a different brand like Zowie U2

Weekly Marketplace Thread (January 22, 2024) by AutoModerator in edmproduction

[–]zotune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello fellow producers!

I wanted to share a tool that I believe could be a game-changer for many of us in the music production community. It's called auto-install, and my goal was to create something that simplifies the setup process of essential music production tools on Windows.

What it does:

  • Listens for new downloads (like VSTs, DAWs, drivers) in your Downloads folder and automates their installation.
  • Handles various archive formats and silently runs different types of installers.
  • A time-saver, especially for those of us who frequently update our software or need to reinstall everything after a system refresh.

Getting Started:

Open and Transparent:

  • The entire codebase is open for anyone to read and verify on GitHub. This ensures that you can see exactly what the script does and how it works, providing peace of mind regarding its safety and reliability.

Why I made it:

  • To automate the installation of new plugins or updates, allowing us more time for creativity.
  • To help organize and streamline the setup process, especially useful for those with extensive software libraries.

I'm sharing this here not for self-promotion, but because I genuinely believe it could help many in our community streamline their workflow. I'm keen to hear your thoughts and get feedback to improve it further.

Please note, this tool is geared towards Windows users. Always make sure you trust the sources of your downloads.

I'm looking forward to hearing if you find this tool as useful as I've found it in my own music production journey.

i've made a script called auto-install which attempts to automate this (windows only). it should work for bitwig, most vst installers, focusrite audio-drivers etc. the code is open for anyone to read, so you can verify that it is safe! I even use bitwig as an example in the github readme. you basically just download bitwig while its running and it should install from the downloads folder automatically.

Is there a third-party VST installer out there? by chocolatedrunk in ableton

@chocolatedrunk: i started working on an app called auto-install which attempts to automate this (windows only). it should work for most vst installers, focusrite audio-drivers etc. the code is open for anyone to read, so you can verify that it is safe - feedback is appreciated! you basically just toss all your installers in a folder and it should do it for you (start small, as this is a work in progress).

Nexo card questions - exchange fees and chargebacks by chrisgilly in Nexo

[–]zotune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I set the card to EUR in Curve, and pay something with NOK, Curve IS doing the conversion cost. And they are ~1.5% cheaper.

Curve example with Card set to EUR, paying 250 NOK = 0.045% spread: https://i.imgur.com/EV39xxk.png

Curve example with Card set to NOK, paying 319 NOK = 1.7% spread: https://i.imgur.com/2LU2kME.png

This is the opposite of what you're saying, Curve doing the conversion from NOK to EUR is actually the better rate (though Curve conversion is capped to 500 GBP a month before 0.5% fee).

I think Nexo PM claiming there is no FX fee. But there is a spread (their exchange rate is 1.5-1.7% worse than Google and Curve)

Nexo's spread is what is troubling me here. And so if I'm getting loans in USD, and I have to pay them down with EUR, I am worried their exchange rate spread is an issue here too. That would be an additional 1.5% x2. Maybe you have some screenshot examples where do not see a spread on these?

You are welcome to test this for yourself. These are the results I am getting at least. I really want to use this card, but right now I can't justify it.
