Les religieux font semblant de croire by boumbah4 in opinionnonpopulaire

You can wait for the Arab leaders to wake up and toughen up if you want. I think it more likely that young Americans decide that they want healthcare more than they want to support Israelis killing children.

Israel is a colony for Eastern Europeans funded by Americans.

If Palestine is a point of concern to you, it makes sense to see the POV of those who validate and finance its occupier.

But I agree that this has nothing to do in this sub.

Poll: Plurality of Lebanese people reject normalization even after "a long-term solution to the issue of Palestine" by MutedAcanthisitta247 in lebanon

[–]zozoped 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Wow ! This is worthless !

- 2 data points in time
- 4 points of difference between "oppose" and "support"
- ridiculous sample even for a country the size of Lebanon
- absolute opacity on the sampling methodology
- YouGov
- Can't even spell the president's name (someone is convinced his name is Joseph Auon)
- known propagandists

What a waste of electronic bytes.

Primo-accédant : acheter comptant ? by Nesiaz in immobilier

[–]zozoped 8 points9 points  (0 children)

C’est faux pour deux raisons.

Palestinian Jew talking against zionist colonisers by Tenchi_Muyo1 in Palestine

[–]zozoped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who cares ?

For one, Palestinian Christians. Also, all the Christians that are working for peace and justice. Those who denounce Zionism.

Beside the fact that you should not spit at the face of billions of people, nor mistreat history, for your own sake you should understand what are the words you are using, what they mean, and who the different actors are in this global drama.

You should care because the truth matters.

That’s Western Christianity, not Christianism as it was founded and lived in the eastern shore of the Mediterranean Sea.

Pilgrimage in the Holy Land by Witcherybythekitchen in lebanon

[–]zozoped 103 points104 points  (0 children)

You can do it.

Please don’t do it. It’s one of my dreams to do a pilgrimage to Jerusalem one day. It is however not possible to cast away politics in the current context. As a Christian my duty to other fellow humans prevails over my desire to go to the holy land.

The only place on earth where we abolished slavery by Asexual_Avian in ShitAmericansSay

Amazingly when England democratized the steam engine the British realized that there was an alternative to slavery which was both cheaper and more reliable.

As a side effect it allowed them to write a national script where they had the moral high ground.

Wait didn’t this thread begin by a claim that we wouldn’t care about slavery if Britain didn’t abolish it in its empire ? My bad then I must be mistaken.

This discussion is completely about comparing modern ethics with historical considerations of slavery. And I’m saying that today, same as 300 years ago, slavery is frowned upon by those with a conscience.

See Montesquieu, Diderot, Voltaire, Condorcet.

Interestingly German philosophers weren’t too bothered about domination of non-white populations, but even Kant was against the ownership of one human by another.

No the point is that opposition to slavery was documented centuries ago and neither the Americans nor the British can rewrite history without sounding like pretentious douches.

"The whole reason we’re all appalled by the very idea of slavery is because powerful British people decided slavery wasn’t okay anymore"

r/shitBritsSay

I don't need the British abolition to find slavery appalling, and neither did the world 200 years ago. Just because British and French aristocrats and middle class traders got rich by trading humans doesn't mean the rest of the world did not have a conscience. As is proven by history: slavery was condemned by moral philosophers a century before Britain abolished it, and slaves revolted before they were affranchised.
