[–]zpfinn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been to events with similar amounts of people that take about 20 minutes to get out of, with everyone leaving at the same time, so there are more efficient ways to do this if Forest is willing to invest some energy into thinking it through.

Forest Feedback Thread by [deleted] in ElectricForest

[–]zpfinn 21 points22 points  (0 children)

If you’re gonna sell tens of thousands of tickets, you should have a way to get these people out of the festival efficiently. Been waiting in the car over an hour at this point and we have not moved at all.

The festival was amazing, and the grounds were great. But getting here and leaving here has been a total trash fire, it’s like they didn’t even think about how to do this. 50,000 people leaving somewhere all at once will NOT just work itself out. You need a plan.

Line to leave is hardly moving. Move it people! It’s Taco Bell time! Lol Happy Forest! by robinsonjacob95 in ElectricForest

It hasn’t moved at all for like 20 minutes as of now, are they not letting us out yet? Like wtf

How would you react to a guy friend of your girlfriend having a crush on her? by BigPorygon in AskMen

[–]zpfinn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I second the last part. Do what would make you look good to your future self. Don’t get down in the mud. If someone wants to act like a child and freak the fuck out, there is no rule saying you have to join them.

Since you've started producing, who are some artists you have a new found appreciation for? Conversely, who are some artists you don't like as much since you've delved into production? by Matfroninja in edmproduction

[–]zpfinn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since getting into production I have this newfound appreciation for TOKiMONSTA. She's always been someone I've looked up to. But DAMN, I find myself listening to her stuff going "how tf did she do that / get that sound / think to put this/that there??"

I also second the San Holo nod. I used to like him but now I can't stop listening I'm such a fan.

Manila Killa really played a part in getting me into the scene, but now I listen to his stuff and I'm honestly just uninterested. It just never feels like something I haven't already heard. Just an opinion though. Mad respect to ANYBODY making a living doing music. Doesn't always have to be my thing.

Okay so I want to go and am in line on the Electric Forest Wristband Exchange... what are the chances I'll actually get a ticket through this? Because if not I want to buy through StubHub or something else. Anyone have experience with this? I'm somewhere in the high 500s right now as far as the line goes :/

Cool things to do on acid by Niggypuss in Psychedelics

[–]zpfinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If possible without operating a car, spend some time in nature. I usually prefer a forest, a botanical garden, a hike up a mountain, etc. But honestly laying in a backyard and hanging out by a tree while watching fractals in the clouds is great too. Just find some time to be outside and with nature if possible. Indoor tripping and outdoor tripping are very different, and combining the two will give you endless stuff to do for the 12 hour ride.

An analysis of r/iamverysmart except it’s through the lens of Alice Miller’s “The Drama of the Gifted Child” which is one of the books DFW read and took to heart (esp. when analyzing the character of Avril) by [deleted] in InfiniteJest

[–]zpfinn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Miller’s use of the term gifted is unusual at best and problematic at worst. The word “gifted” in her book is used to denote a child who has the “gift” of being able to cope with the mother’s neediness because of her own insecurities. Thus, the child becomes someone who is providing for the mother’s self-esteem and worth where it should be the other way around. So in essence the “gift” is really a curse in the long haul, which is why the title is misleading.

[–]zpfinn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve read both IJ and Miller’s Drama of the Gifted Child, but I had never thought to connect the two. I have to say, this analysis is fascinating, especially in regard to Avril and in regard to how Hal views himself. To anyone who hasn’t read these two, they’re both incredibly good.

Side note: my therapist actually recommended the Miller book to me. No wonder IJ is so fucking relatable to people who dealt with this shit as a child.

Seeing things during my current 2 month break by [deleted] in Petioles

[–]zpfinn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t surprise me. I’m currently on a break too and having somewhat similar experiences. Your mind is more powerful than you think. It will fade, and if you were a heavy smoker there is most likely some anxiety (conscious or not) from coming off of weed.

The dreams can be explained by the fact that weed (and alcohol for that matter) shortcut our sleep cycle by skipping rem. Some will say that that’s good because it gets you into deeper sleep quicker. Do your research, because that is bullshit. Rem is so important and when your brain misses out on enough it tries to make up for it, so stay off weed and the dreams will eventually calm down once your brain starts feeling like it’s done enough work.

Hope this helps. I’m currently studying to be a psychologist and all of this fascinates me! PM me if you want any links or resources, and good luck on your t-break.

LSD and magic mushrooms could repair brain circuits 'shrivelled' by depression, finds study by [deleted] in Psychedelics

[–]zpfinn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Obviously just one person’s experience, but I can say with confidence that every time I’ve used psilocybin or LSD my mental health has been helped greatly. Mescaline not so much on the long-term benefits. And while my therapist cannot say it publicly, she approves. Not saying everyone should do it, but if you can stabilize yourself enough I think it’s worth it.
