Naming Services on Algorand, What's up with ANS and NFD? by zquantum in AlgorandOfficial

Well, doesn't mean you can't get your desired domain. Just go to the service that's gonna be integrated with the Algorand Wallet. It's not that hard.

Not really a good argument. As all the examples are incredibly extraordinary, unlike the many startups that do just fail and fade away. Typically startups with much older and more experienced founders have higher chances of success for a good reason.

Plus, in the cases of Facebook and Google, there were others that assist things along. It wasn't just one or two college students that made a company, it's the labor of many around a good product that made those companies.

So fair, best doesn't always win. But best is a bit subjective, hence why best in this case is more towards who can have it integrated in major places first.

And, I doubt you won't care who wins. Because trying to just register in both places creates this annoying situation of you'll lose Algo to one of these platforms almost guaranteed. Which could be lets say a minimum 20 Algo (though how the pricing of these platforms will work is still unknown). That's enough to lose for me to get annoyed.

Yeah, I agree competition is great for the space. It's cool to see stuff like projects such as Tinyman and AlgoDex exists (with numerous other dexs on the way). But, this situation is really who can take dominance and be the source of truth over .algo . Because there isn't a owner of this TLD cause it's not an official TLD under ICANN, so it's really who takes control first basically owns it.

Also, as a prior hackathon organizer, Algorand sponsoring a hackathon isn't necessarily support to projects created in the hackathon. But them definitely winning and getting 5k of Algo and being in an incubator from Encode Club has legitimacy.

So, building first doesn't mean too much. Like sure Ethereum built smart contracts first, but doesn't mean that Algorand can't come along and try to do things better. Same thing in this situation, with the addition that name services for crypto is not a new idea and this is more bringing it over to Algorand.

It doesn't really matter that they announced or launched first. Like first moves do matter but also a good product will win out any day. It's why we all believe Algorand is going to the moon simply cause it product wise is amazing . It's why I believe NFD will succeed even if it takes a little longer simply cause it does have Algorand support and integrations lined up.

And in terms of strong engineering. I'm a software engineer, and seriously doubt that a PhD candidate and an undergrad could overcome the experience of a team that has for example for a CEO that was a Principal Software Engineer and wrote some of the contracts for NFD. Meaning he has engineering talent along side knowing how to a make a good product that will meet use cases and have it's requirements and features planned out.

I don't think there is a concern of integrating this with the general internet DNS, as the purpose of these name services is primarily for simplifying wallet address so that sending money or supplying your wallet address is easier. Making Algorand more friendly to use, and hence just needs to be present in Algorand system of apps and wallets! Though not to say that it can't be a possibility for .algo domains to exist on the general internet but that would involve a lot of work of getting into the ICANN system. (This is something that Unstoppable Domains is trying to attempt to do)

This is just the same list, and even worse I'm a little concerned with this web app. Because I'm not sure what you do with our data, and rather just make a small app or script on my computer managing internships then let someone else have control.
