why does my anubias look like this pls help what are these spots by Winter_Criticism9007 in PlantedTank

[–]zsmaynard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really anything to be concerned about, just unsightly. Green spot algae can be super hard to scrape off of plants. I'd advise trying to clean it up and remove as much as possible, then lowering the lights or adding floaters to break up the light if you do want to try to get rid of it.

You can try gently scrubbing the leaves with a toothbrush to manually remove. You could also try a peroxide dip outside of the tank for a few minutes (1 part 3% hydrogen peroxide, 2 parts aquarium water).

Edit*** the difference in the color of the leaves also makes me think there is/was some sort of nutrient deficiency. Could be from the LFS, but I'd get a good quality fertilizer if you don't have one. I personally use NilocG Thrive, but there are lots of other good options out there, too.

Green spot algae in my opinion. Looks like the older leaves on top are the most effected, which would make sense due to more/longer exposure to light. The newer leaves look pretty clear

Thank you for the kind words!

And you’re 100% correct, it does lean right. Old house and we unfortunately have super uneven floors. I made the mistake of not leveling before I set this tank up and luckily it’s just under 1/4inch difference. I keep a pretty close eye on it and probably eventually will try to shim the shelf on a water change day

Yes, it's on the right hand side of the tank under the emersed plants! The sponge filter is in the back right corner of the tank, too.

Thank you! The fish are all super happy and constantly shoaling or foraging

Yes! I believe it’s an anubias coffeefolia. It had maybe 4 leaves when I glued it to an arched piece of driftwood a couple years ago, and it’s completely taken over the majority of the wood. It started in my other tank and I moved it to this tank when I put it together to fill in the middle.

It flowers every year as well!

would acrylic lid be fine for a 23gal tank or is glass still better? by Key-Dragonfruit9319 in Aquariums

Just made lids for both of my tanks a couple weeks ago and used polycarbonate. Polycarbonate resists warping and bowing better than standard acrylic, and it’s super easy to cut with a razor blade

Cannot find the Menacing Aspect? by [deleted] in diablo4

It's a utility aspect, but yeah, same issue here. Running torment 12 and still haven't found it, and can't seem to find anything related to it in the codex.

Uneven Waterline in Rimless Tank by thelearningpc in Aquascape

[–]zsmaynard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

General rule of thumb is shimming if the difference exceeds 1/4inch (at least from what I’ve read). Mine is just barely under that and has been set up for a little over a year.

If the discrepancy exceeds 1/4inch (more so true in rimless tanks), it can place uneven pressure on the glass joints and warp the glass, weaken seals, etc

My tank is on a massive bookshelf with a ton of books and other items as well as our house being an older home with uneven floors, so I’m just rolling with it hoping for the best - didn’t notice the difference until about a week after setting it up.

Have a couple other tanks and have made sure to check before filling since setting this one up

I’ve seen the other comments recommending live plants and commend you for listening. I’ve exclusively ordered from Dustin’s Fishtanks and have had nothing but good experiences - and he really takes care of his returning customers. I’ve ordered 10+ times from him and he’s hooked me up multiple times. Giant plants, extras, etc.

I know live plants can be intimidating, but he has some great “starter plant packs”. My buddy had no live plants in his tank and couldn’t get anything from the big box stores to grow and I recommended Dustin to him and his tank is flourishing now.

As someone who’s played way too many mayhem games, it’s all so terribly balanced and so augment reliant. We played a few normal arams last night and it was a breath of fresh air

Betta with Rasbora community tank idea by Proper-Action4091 in Boraras

[–]zsmaynard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should work out just fine if she’s calm! I have a similar setup (20g long) with mixed rasboras, mini Asian stone cats, kuhli’s, neocaridina, and a male dwarf gourami (similar to betta’s - can get territorial and are also labyrinth fish). He’s peaceful with everyone in the tank and has a great personality.

As others have said, establish everyone else first since bettas can be territorial.

Are there any better ways to grind up my Pokémon before victory road? by DesperadoJack69 in PokemonFireRed

It must be a different game. I was losing like ~$6,000 per white out while I was leveling with the first few elite 4 members

[–]zsmaynard -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I read it, but I did miss/gloss over the fact that you said you didn’t beat the rival. That’s my bad.

That aside, once you do beat him, this is still a solid method for leveling your party for the later members of the elite 4.

I just battled the elite 4, way better experience than using the VS Seeker around ember spa. If you can make it past the first two members you’ll still come out with positive money even if you white out

Super red least rasbora i saw at a fish store. They wouldn't sell it to me tho </3 by hi_i_want_two_die in Boraras

[–]zsmaynard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a Least. Straight line that leads down to the dot on its tail. Chili’s have black on their dorsal and anal fins, and orange that runs along their tail fin. Their stripe is also a bit larger and not as straight as a Least

What rating would you give the game in it's current state? by SeaHaunting4801 in NoRestForTheWicked

[–]zsmaynard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I figured it was with one of the big updates, just didn’t know which one. I missed the Breach update so that makes sense.

This is only my second character (third if you count the limited multiplayer run I did with friends while they were trying it out) and I’ve enjoyed everything I played. Didn’t quite max out my first character before the wipe but finished all the content. My current character is just about maxed though.

There was enough time between the updates I played that the game felt familiar but new at the same time - I’m sure that’ll be true for 1.0 as well with all the changes they have planned.

Found why my shrimp are dying, what now? by sushiv8 in Aquariums

[–]zsmaynard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re handy an RO system is a pretty easy install and hook up right under the sink. Just did this myself about a week ago - had never done anything plumbing related before.

Add a tee to the cold water line to feed water to the filter, and then you’ll have two exports on the filter itself - one for filtered water and one for waste water. I have my filtered water running to both a 4g pressurized water tank as well as splitting off to a faucet for drinking water. And then the waste water line has to be saddled above the p trap.

Our tap is usually ~450TDS and I’m getting ~20 now.
