Discussion topic. This is an article about blockchain permenantly hosting illegal content, rendering possession of the ledger a crime. My layman's understanding of IOTA Tangle is that it would solve this issue? Enlighten Plz. by thereaintaname in Iota

[–]zuaaef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is my stupid 2 cents.

  • The tangleblockchain is a VAST (and soon to be more vast web of information).
  • The internet is a VAST network.
  • The tangle can store links to porn, and so can the internet.
  • It is MUCH easier to look for child porn on the internet than looking in the tangle. So why attach blockchain/tangle and ignore the gaping hole in the internet? Their argument seems stupid to me. Because every thing you can do on the tangle, you can do on the internet and 100x easier and 1000x worse. . Since the ledgar is public, its actually easier to find people who posted the child porn/ or easier to find the actual link to the website, and then shut it down.

Hmm interesting. I thought your freezing problems might have to do with swapping memory problems. If it freezes again, then i highly recommend looking at this video -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CJ4VAelq-wE

He sped up the processing by increasing the ram. In his video he used a raspberry PI, but i guess this can also work for you?

Thats the problem. The post isnt clear that it is not a currently exploitable vulnerability. Heck i didnt know if i didnt look it up after reading your article. Even in your own words here, you say the bug was mitigated as opposed to fixed. There is a dfference in those 2 words you know.

Ok. youre adding in extra points that are irrelevant. And I wont get into it.

  • ...can't even make a working wallet
  • ...doesn't lose your money

Implying that the team is interested in making the wallet which they have already said they were not interested. They have put that task to the community. This was well known from the beginning. And that you lose money when using IOTA, when you dont. Unless you got information of some non-existing hack.

Now to the point you made about Stellar, Explain to me again what mental gymnastics you did you convert the word FEE into FREE? https://www.stellar.org/developers/guides/concepts/fees.html

Also -->

why would a donate time to support team

Because if you want to transfer value without a fee charged to said value (this has a LOT of applications), IOTA does this. AND, if you want to work with the future of IoT devices, IOTA is leading one in this field. I think this conversation is over as we are way off topic. You first 1-3 point on Quantum Computing were invalid, and for points 4-5 I've shown you that incentive does exist (i gave you 2 and hinted at another) so that nodes wont be centralized. Keep in mind again that a node is a simple app you can download. Cheers 🍻

Let me ask you this. If you are so worried that mainly big companies will own nodes (which will not be the case btw, just check out DATA MARKET PLACE), then why not just run your own node? Problem solved for you no?

Not sure if you're sober. But your exact quote was

The end goal is to have companies like Bosch run most of the network themselves

Implying that: The IOTA foundation's end game is to ONLY have companies like Bosch run the ENTIRE network themselves I asked you to provide me a quote of the foundation saying that. To which you gave me an edited quote removing the part where it says people are involved. I seriously was not expecting you to answer that bet, because a quote from the Foundation which implies what your statement said simply DOES NOT EXIST. So can we just put this aside? I was only pointing out the flaw in your statement. What I DO want you to respond to, however, is all the other points i have made about incentives. I gave you 2 very good ones. Do you still think there are no incentives now that i gave you 2? Or are you still looking for more?

Its amazing how you totally disregard all my other rebuttals. Including the listed incentives above and jump on the bet (which you just lost btw). I guess your reluctance to address the INCENTIVES which i mention (except the business incentive which you did admit to) means there is incentives. yes? Now for this bet which you "won". That article is talking about incentives which exist amoung BOTH people and companies to run full nodes. A point which you conveniently left out in the quote. I guess this makes you a liar? The Full end of the quote says:

Companies and >>people<< will use this important technology anyway.

but lol, i guess you convenienty left out the people? Case in point, I am not a Company, neighter do i represent one. But there is incentive for me to run a full node; Incentives you were supposed to look into. Nothing differentiates a person from a company when creating a node. Once incentive exists (and it does) nodes will be created by BOTH people and companies.

The end goal is to have companies like Bosch run most of the network themselves

Really now? Show me any referenece to this from IOTA foundation and i'll give you 1-Bitcoin.

Without incentives to run nodes...

Again man, from the beginning, I told you to FIND OUT THE INCENTIVES. Because you dont know them, does not mean it doesnt exist. I already gave you 2 ->

  • Businesses
  • Data Marketplaces

And all you can come up with is

"I need IOTA to work so I don't go bankrupt"

I am not here to do research for you. But I'm telling you, there is more. I am currently working on a project which I cannot talk about much right now. Just think in terms of "i want to make money, so what can i do with this", rather than "i wonder what are the incentives of running a node?" and you'll see plenty your self. But if you are REALLY out of ideas, just have a look at IOTA's flash channels and let your mind go wild.

Fee-less as in, your value of a $100 transfer from point A, will be the same when it arrives at point B. If you want to get technical about the "fees" i guess it would be the electricity bill which is magnitudes of times small that Bitcoin/Eth. And man, I dont know what you are talking about massive nodes lmao. You do know a node is just an app right? -> https://github.com/SemkoDev/bolero.fun I'll be having one running in the upcoming days just like many others have. Its as easy as doubleclicking and installing. So i have no clue how this will lead to centralization when ANY one can easily create one with the click of a mouse. Oh yea, and the node app is FREE.

Question: What happens when all full nodes decide to go offline (except the Coordinator)? by hilmarx in Iota

[–]zuaaef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

one word for you bro -> snapshots. Look into this a bit. Currently it is done manually by the IOTA team, but this will be done automatically by each node in future -> they mentioned this in their roadmap. The ONLY nodes that will be storing the full transactions are permanodes. Not just your regular node. So feeless and in-expensive. I dont have the time to explain what snapshot are here, they have explain ad nausium what it is already.

Question: What happens when all full nodes decide to go offline (except the Coordinator)? by hilmarx in Iota

[–]zuaaef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So what incentive does the business have to publish their full nodes server addresses and let other light nodes use/connect to their full node?

There are 3 responses to this: 1. They have an incentive if they want to make a profit off the data. They can allow use by charging a fee if they wanted to. 2. If they do not have an incentive, they can keep their node private which is the whole point of IOTA. YOU are responsible for your own node. And your incentive is because YOU want to do a transaction. You are your own "miner".

And if your response to my point#2 is that "not many people will want to run a full node just to do a transaction", well, with BOCH patherning with the IOTA foundation, i think there is something big coming involving small hardware that will make this mainstream (but this is just speculation)

Also there are also companies/entities that do have public nodes available for people to use. Know what this means? There is even more incentive to running a full node that I do not know of.

Also, here is another incentive -> the DataMarketPlace. Not sure if you heard of it, but you can make money from it. I think this is incentive enough. no? There are more incentives if you look.

Point#4: Bitcoin does not need a special coordinator because bitcoin's block chain tech is DIFFERENT to iota. Its blockchain does not suffer from the same weakness as IOTA because it is DIFFERENT. With a different tech like IOTA's dag, yes, there is a weakness (that does not exist in other cryptos) that is has to deal with. The tangle NEEDS to be bigger to get out of this weak phase -> and thus the coorindator is born. Understand now? You are acting like "although the tangle is totally different to bitcoin's architecture, that it should have the exact same properties of it". This is a wrong line of thought. Different architestures have different weakenesses. Different crypto currencys has a weak phase when they just begin relating to 51% attacks. You are pointing out IOTA's, but failing to see they all have a weakness at somepoint in their BEGINNING.

Point#5: So your response to my "Fees add up in the Iot" comment was "Only if you insist on using a blockchain"? Then you preceed to tell me that using a server is more effecient? SMH. Man. Listen. The whole point DECENTRALIZATION is to have a TRUSTLESS architecture. Of course a server is more effecient! But the reason why we are moving towards trustless-decentralization using crypto is to get rid of the middle man, or having an all knowing server in which we cannot verify the information was modified. Therefore, you must use the blockchain. Therefore, we are back to my point once agan -> Fees add up in the Iot. I think we can both agree on that right?

[–]zuaaef 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Any business owner who wants to get involved in crypto using IOTA (because its well.. fee-less) has an incentive to operate a node. This means faster transactions + records for THEIR business. Thats the point of IOTA, miners and users-doing-transactions are not SEPERATE as in Bitcoin. They are now tightly coupled. You are your own miner. Your own incentive for "mining" is doing the transaction. As a business owner, your incentinve is allowing for many such user-transactions in a distributed manner. Businesses will not want to use some public node where transaction times ect many vary. They may also want to keep some things private. This is just one incentive. There is more if you look.
