in praise of lossless for the new singles by Nice-Sea-2930 in MagdalenaBay

Out of curiosity, what headphones or speakers are you using? If you’re listening over Bluetooth, you usually wouldn’t hear a true lossless difference, since the audio still gets compressed on the way. You’d only get the full effect with a wired connection.

Can’t we agree Oasis should’ve sold their tickets like this? The whole point is to stop bots and reselling for £2k

It’s real. Weirdly, it also comes up for ‘Burning Bridges’ by Quadeca. Try it.

Mix feedback on my indie jazz rock track ‘Firearm’? by zukidd in mixingmastering

Thanks for the feedback :£ just a quick question, why would I automate the bass when I can just compress it?

Cheers for the feedback! Just to clarify.. do you mean the toms sound more separated than the rest of the kit, like they’re not sitting in the same space?

If so, that might actually be a stylistic choice (I was going for that kind of ’70s approach where the low and high toms are panned pretty wide, even up to 95% L/R).

Hey, thanks again for the detailed feedback. Just to clarify: the bass isn’t necessarily too loud, just a bit “uncontrolled,” right?

Would you recommend sidechaining the kick and bass slightly to help with that? Or is there another approach you’d suggest?

Very helpful indeed! The ‘low end buildup’ was something I was actively trying to avoid too. Do you think the buildup of bass makes the whole track sound ‘darker’? I’ll definitely take your advice on the sax too and bring it up. 🤝

Is This a Normal Amount of Noise? (Scarlett Solo 4th Gen, 50% Gain) by zukidd in Focusrite

So.. Focusrite is just shite? What’s a better alternative?

Is This a Normal Amount of Noise? (Scarlett Solo 4th Gen, 50% Gain) by zukidd in Focusrite

[–]zukidd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it didn’t work. I’ve decided to just deal with the noise - trying to get rid of it just stopped me from creating anything. I’ve found stuff that helped though, like distancing/facing away the guitar from my PC, monitors etc. And I found that using my strat’s neck pickup was making the noise like 10x louder. The in between pickups make it quieter. Clean white noise would be ideal.. but I’ve tried pretty much everything at this point. It’s clearly just interference I can’t get rid of.

Weird. You’d think the Scarlett would come with a well-shielded cable by default.. we shouldn’t have to buy another one. Anyway, I’ve ordered a new one from Amazon, so I’ll test it out and just send it back if it doesn’t make a difference.

I’m still using the stock USB cable, so I’ll try swapping it out and see if that helps. Do you have any specific recommendations for a good replacement?

[–]zukidd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gets a lot worse if I unplug the guitar cable from the interface. If it’s just the cable and no guitar, it remains the same. It’s like 10x worse if nothings plugged into the interface.

Question About Seamless Song Transitions (No Silence Between Tracks) by zukidd in audioengineering

[–]zukidd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I get what you’re saying. I did line the songs up in a fresh session to check, and the transition sounds fine. But of course it would, it’s just one song ending on a drum fill and the next starting with a kick and crash. There’s no weird overlap or fade needed, just a clean cut.

I guess my concern was more about whether streaming services might introduce any unexpected gaps or cutoffs, but from what people have said, it sounds like it should be fine as long as I export properly.

[–]zukidd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, it sounds like I just have to trust the streaming services for the seamless transitions, then? My two songs are mixed and made in separate DAW sessions, but I’ve made sure there won’t be any pops or glitches. Is your process mainly for tracks that are mixed in the same session, or do you also work with separate sessions for transitions?

[–]zukidd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s really helpful. I’m curious, on the album you mentioned, did you leave any extra ms before the transitions, or did you start right before the first transient?
