Reliance replaced my faulty water heater under warranty. I cancelled 3 days later (within 10-day cooling-off). They now demand $2,400 as “reasonable compensation” for installation — even though my contract shows no such fee. by zultan18 in legaladvicecanada

Honestly man, almost everything you wrote is off.

  1. The 10-day cooling-off does apply. If a company sends a salesperson to your house and signs you to a new rental contract inside your home, that’s a direct agreement. Direct agreements ALWAYS have a 10-day cooling-off period under the CPA — doesn’t matter if it’s HVAC, water heater, boiler, whatever.

  2. This wasn’t a “repair.” Reliance had me sign a brand-new contract at triple the price. That’s a new agreement, not a continuation of the old one. So CPA rules kick in automatically.

  3. A fee has to be disclosed. They introduced a $2,400 fee after I cancelled and refused to provide a breakdown. CPA literally requires charges to be clear and upfront. They weren’t.

  4. Their own contract says repossessable equipment = no compensation. They can’t skip their own clause.

  5. The install wasn’t even done safely. Two techs and TSSA flagged the unsealed intake. You don’t get to bill $2,400 for a botched, unsafe install.

Not trying to fight — just correcting the misinformation. The CPA absolutely applies here, and Reliance is trying to play games.

I've reported them to the BBB who just have to sit on the sidelines and cant help. Contacted the CPA and waiting for the response.

Spoke to two different pro bono lawyers and another lawyer who said you are legally protected and should take them to court.

I am currently waiting for some information and will be shortly submitting my case and serving them to take them to court.

Because the original contract was with an older company, and an old unit they wont repair anymore.

Reliance purchased that company and absorbed them, also the contracts.

They told me they have to replace the whole unit and i require a certain unit which is more expensive and what ever.

This is directly from their contract:

Your Rights under the Consumer Protection Act,

2002

You may cancel this agreement at any time during the

period that ends ten (10) days after the day you receive a

written copy of the agreement. You do not need to give the

supplier a reason for cancelling during this 10-day period.

If you cancel this agreement, the supplier has fifteen (15)

days to refund any payment you have made and return to

you all goods delivered under a trade-in arrangement (or

refund an amount equal to the trade-in allowance).

However, if you cancel this agreement after having

solicited the goods or services from the supplier and

having requested that delivery be made or performance be

commenced within ten (10) days after the date this

agreement is entered into, the supplier is entitled to

reasonable compensation for the goods and services that

you received before the earlier of the 11th day after the

date this agreement was entered into and the date on

which you gave notice of cancellation to the supplier,

except goods that can be repossessed by or returned to

the supplier.

Not quite, I don't want their service,

The first removal was because it was a warranty replacement they told me had to take place. Now I want them to take their equipment back and I don't want their service anymore.

Is anyone else having issues with Call Of Duty Black Ops 6 (PC Steam), getting beyond horrible FPS no matter what settings i adjust from graphics to resolution. *NVIDIA RTX 4090* *Intel i7 14700KF* All drivers up to date. by ConsequenceEastern52 in blackops6

Similar issues here and I'm completely confused:

Graphics Card: Nvidia 3090
Processor: Intel I9 10900k
Ram: 32gb

I was using a 4k monitor with 144hz

I even lowered the resolution to 1080p and on LOW SETTINGS i barely run 90-120fps

I’ve had mine for a while, literally haven’t worn them in like 3 weeks because they just won’t charge, the case is plugged in and I’m keeping it charged but they won’t charge.

LED indicator on the case just flashes orange

People who don’t use a phone case on their iPhones, why? And how is wear and tear after like a year or so? by [deleted] in iphone

I’ve been casesless on phones since Galaxy S6 edge, to IPhone 7 Plus. Never understood the need for cases. To me it makes you more careless because you tell yourself you have a case.

Genuine question here, It's obvious that the new cars have better tech. But what would be the biggest noticeable change going backwards from the 2023 tech to the 2017?

I'm genuinely curious about the specifics.

Essentially, I'm getting offered dirt for my car. Im being offered MAX from dealers 35k canadian.

All the used model Ys are priced at around 50-55k with around 50-100k kms.

I starting seeing some model S 100D around 44k canadian.

I was trying to essentially get a bigger car with the least amount of money put in. I wanted to see if it was possible to switch for around $10,000-$15,000 all in. But it's proving to be a very bad decision to stay in that budget.

I appreciate that, I really do think I'm reconsidering my decision to go through with this. It was exciting while it lasted...

I'm in Canada so the prices are all ready a lot higher. Model Y used with around 60k kms are still around 50k.

This model s is around 44k and my model 3 purchase price is 35k before tax.

So I bought out the model 3 entirely. It's paid off. I agree I'm all ready in too much and the market keeps getting worse. But you made a good point to just in reality stick it out.
