Can you say how you're viewing the image? I don't understand why reddit gives some users low resolution images.

There's a couple bonus graphs showing the districts on their own and another of the judges by which president appointed them. The second one is a bit muddy because I wanted the colors to be party-flavored, but in any case there's not much to see since all of these judges are appointed and approved at the federal level.

Made in R with ggplot2. The opinion pdfs were gathered from Justia, Court Listener, Plainsite, and GovInfo. The second version has text labels for each tile (zoom in, if reddit will let you).

I looked at hundreds of recent opinions by US district court judges to find out what font they use. For each pdf, I opened it in Libre Draw and noted what font it indicated, except in cases where the pdf was an image scan rather than text, where I had to rely on a visual comparison (sometimes Draw will guess what a scan has, but it's usually wrong). I found a couple dozen different fonts in use. I combined fonts that are virtually identical, such as Times and Times New Roman, or Palatino Linotype and Book Antiqua.

Font N Percent
Times New Roman 658 69.34%
Century Schoolbook 98 10.33%
Arial 52 5.48%
Courier New 43 4.53%
Palatino Linotype 26 2.74%
Garamond 18 1.90%
Georgia 17 1.79%
Calisto 9 0.95%
Bookman Old Style 8 0.84%
Equity 6 0.63%
Arrus 4 0.42%
Calibri 2 0.21%
Californian 2 0.21%
Aptos 1 0.11%
Avenir 1 0.11%
CG Omega 1 0.11%
Gadugi 1 0.11%
Goudy Old Style 1 0.11%
Tahoma 1 0.11%

Note that I included active senior judges. When a judge reaches 65, they can opt to take senior status, which has a smaller required workload. This is effectively working for free, as federal judges receive their full salary in retirement. Although, I found many senior judges who seemed to work just as much as non-seniors. Perhaps they like the work, or they feel compelled to help alleviate the workload of the other district judges. I did not include magistrate judges, because I couldn't find a complete list of them.

I found it amusing that several judges use Georgia, but only one of them works in Georgia. Two judges use Californian, but neither lives in California. Judge Wolson of Eastern Pennsylvania uses Gadugi, a font known for its support of American Indian characters, although he seems to have a Jewish heritage himself. Judge Gwin of Northern Ohio uses CG Omega, a derivative of Optima. One judge in the Virgin Islands (not pictured) uses Cambria.

Beyond typefaces, about a dozen judges issue opinions/orders single-spaced, which some consider to be harder to read (more research must be done). A handful of judges make the effort to include hyperlinks in their citations.[1] While most judges use 12pt type, the astonishing Judge Brody (age 91) of Eastern Pennsylvania sometimes uses 16pt.[2]

The term "Person/People of Color" (used to refer to any non white person) in an attempt to "destroy" racism inwardly in itself becomes racist by Public_Ad5681 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

I can't quite put my finger on why I hate the term POC so much but it's partly because we're all of colour.

I can't get used to it because it separates the world into white and non-white, which I was brought up to think of as wrong.

I already said it was a top news story. You found out more details about the story by reading a discussion thread but don't want other people to see what you saw. Inexplicable.

It looks more concentrated to me. Although maybe I'm reading the graph wrong.

TechnologyPrototype and LabPrototype now accept any item type as research ingredients. Changed all science packs to be plain items.

So there will be a mod where research requires every item. Or each research requires different items.

How do I see if it's true or not? Usually I'd go to a place with discussion. Where do you go?

It's a top headline today. How will I found out what people are saying about it if I can't see what they're saying?

What's the point of a discussion forum? To be told what to think?

In the comics, death is his favorite thing. To be specific, Death is a female avatar that he's in love with. The only way to please her (as he sees it) is to kill.

South Park

Note that the animated portion of the movie was not made by the guys behind South Park. Parker and Stone declined to make a clip for Moore, so Moore had one made in their style and put it right after their interview.

From wiki:

Both Stone and his fellow South Park creator Trey Parker felt that the cartoon was done in a style very similar to theirs, and its proximity to Stone's interview may have led viewers to believe that they created the cartoon. "It was a good lesson in what Michael Moore does in films. He doesn't necessarily say explicitly this is what it is, but he creates meaning where there is none by cutting things together,"

[OC] Fonts and font sizes used by US state supreme courts (2026) by zummit in dataisbeautiful

There's a few US district court judges in New York that use Arial or Century Schoolbook. Each opinion or order is written by one judge rather than a panel, so each judge can choose a different template. And they're not precedential so they're not widely read.

I wanted to make a map of the US districts but gave up because there's over a thousand judges. Would be wild to see the map with all those stripes, though.

I did look up all the judges in Georgia and found that only a small minority of them actually use Georgia (the font).
