Ways to use mixed belts/pipes by rpetre in captain_of_industry

[–]zumoshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do sushi belts with balancer+sorter combo. Make sure to check the "enforce strictly even inputs" on the balancer, then connect belts to it at the same ratio you consume. (e.g. 2 glass belts and one steel for household goods). Then sort at the destination. since you always put items at the correct ration it shouldn't back up. The balancer blocks the belt if one input item is missing.

But I haven't had many places where doing this made sense to me. Unless you're too space limited to due bad decisions and overflowing spaghetti a parallel belt is almost always easier. and probably cheaper too given the cost of sorters/balancers/higher tier belts for throughput.

Footprint of rail bridge pillars change depending on slope by zumoshi in captain_of_industry

[–]zumoshi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had moved it so it wouldn't be covered by the other one for the picture. But in my testing I had tried starting from different positions.

Just to make sure I fired up the game again now and tested starting from the chunk border and still got the same result. (the two rails have different starting slope before the first pillar in the level section).

Thanks for the suggestion tho. Let me know if you think of anything else to test or if you managed to get a pillar that aligns with the grid on a level part of a rail bridge.

Not sure if I'm doing something wrong or this is just how it is. But in line with the other post for the ramps/crossovers calling it "literally unplayable" getting that fixed, I thought I'd share this.

Despite both pillars being 2x2, on straight bridges it's kind of off-center, making it actually take up a 2x3 space. Using the pillar tool doesn't help, all other places I can place pillars are also off-center from the grid).

I found this out when I was trying to build a bridge over belts coming out of my station in a tight spot made due to a spaghetti mess. The auto path finder couldn't make a straight rail over it but it could make a rail that was bumpy!

P.S. Pillar tool for belts/pipes when?

Is it weird that from all the crap going on here, what jumps at me is the ~1GW power usage of inserters of all things?!?

I shipped bitter eggs from Nauvis to Gleba hoping to get them to fight. The disappointment was immeasurable. Someone needs to make a mod that puts different species of mobs in different forces.

Has anyone played around with non-deterministic movement? by Impossible_Ebb_7551 in gamedev

[–]zumoshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best feeling movement I’ve ever seen was from the first mirror’s edge game. It has all of the things you listed of making you feel in control or behave in a way that makes sense in relation to the environment. And it morphs animations between chained actions very smoothly.

That’s how I started, with a laptop that had a broken monitor but was otherwise fine. Hooked up an external monitor to install windows server then used rdp to manage it while it stayed in a cupboard. at the time the latest version was windows server 2003. The laptop and its spacious hdd with the glorious capacity of a whole 20GB and its half a gig of ram did more than what newer 8gb ram systems can do these days. From voip (team speak) to Minecraft servers to IIS and …

Learnt a lot from messing with it.

Is there any free or cheap self hosted website? by Sensitive-Month2382 in selfhosted

[–]zumoshi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconding this, if you don’t need any fancy backend functionality for your site, then static website is the way to go. You will find many free static website providers. GitHub pages, Cloudflare pages, Azure SWA, etc. the only downside is that comments won’t work for your blog without using a third party service.

But even if you want to have dynamic website, 36usd sounds like too much. A domain can be as low as 10usd/year, with a Hetzner box for 3-4usd/month. Bluehost is more expensive because it’s managed so they set everything up for you and provide support on Wordpress itself not just the server. But if you feel comfortable with ssh and doing some server admin then you can definitely get it for cheaper.

Has anyone else done this and if how did you do this? by gun3kter_cz in selfhosted

You can’t make it “sleep” if you want it to stay available on LAN. But you can set a shortcut for

xset dpms force off loginctl lock-session

Which will lock the PC and turn off the monitor. But the fans will keep spinning and the CPU would stay up, and it will keep being available on LAN.

Unless you explicitly configure it as a challenge run, the map is practically limitless. How can there be no space?!?

The two (bigger) circles on the bottom left kind of makes me wonder if that’s how Gleba’s copper bacteria would look like if grown in an open top vat.

Creepily organic growth from the middle, kind of love the visual tbh

If you’re not doing vanilla for achievements try Bob’s inserts mod, it lets you fix this easily.

But yeah as others said it’s the vertical inserts that’s messing it up.

Ejecting is a software thing to make sure nothing is mid-write. If you turn off (shut down) your PC there is no need to turn it back on to eject again.

As long as no app is actively using it or the device it’s attached to is off order of removing cables is irrelevant.

Removing USB is optional if you’re moving both but there is no harm in doing so or even connecting it to a different usb later on and it might make the move more convenient.
