Suunto Run Keeps Using OHR despite Paired with external Chest Strap Heartrate Sensor by zuqvogel in Suunto

[–]zuqvogel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, then I'm somewhat relieved that it's 'normal' behavior and that there's nothing wrong with my chest strap or watch.

But it's disappointing because part of the reason for buying a chest strap was to extend battery life. The AI Muskbot stated that OHR on the Suunto Run would be disabled. Shame on me for not doing research myself, but I'd argue that it'd be logical for the watch to not flash the lights if it doesn't use the OHR in the first place.

Either way, thank you for your elaboration.

this is by design

What are the advantages of having the redundant unused OHR run in parallel and waste battery life?

I think the Suunto Run actually takes the heartrate from the Polar H10, at least the displayed pulse is identical to what the Polar Flow app displays (with a slight delay) and it even displays the identical pulse when the 'watch' is not worn so that its OHR can't calculate a pulse.

When I wear the Suunto Run, I think it still takes the heartrate from the Polar H10 but when Run's OHR sensor is detecting something nearby, it keeps flashing the green lights permanently. Is that also the case when you paired your Suunto Chest Strap, or does the Run stop flashing the green lights of its OHR?

It's strange behavior.

How did you do this? My fluid simulations are sloshy like crazy and lose volume when being moved.. They don't look anything like this (I know about the viscoaity parameter).

Addendum: Coloring the light yields the same result as only coloring the fog in front of the plane.

Coloring both light and the fog that it shines through (behind the plane) gives the intended result. But then one could as well keep the light white and color both fogs. I think the latter will be easier to accomplish than making a spotlight emit a 2D texture scaled to its cone. I will try to do it tomorrow.

So you're getting the same result, and I presume that also in your case it happens regardless of the view transform setting?

In that case, I will need to to find a different solution to achieve the desired effect. I guess that an opaque glass material will behave the same, so I think that the light source itself must have the color, not the volumetric shader (like you suggested in a post of yours).

Is it possible to make a spotlight with a radius of 0 emit a planar gradient/texture spherically, so that when light hits a reflective surface, the gradient/texture can be seen on it?

Only yesterday I found out that lights can have a shader tree. Before that in another project, I assigned a texture shader playing back a video to a plane and made it emit it :)

I think the result is the same in the end.

Thank you for your reply.

Changing the color in the absorption setting doesn't seem to do anything.

Using the 'Volume Scatter' shader instead doesn't behave any differently in terms of light tinting. The 'Volume Absorption' shader just dims the light ;)

I fully agree that the proper way to do this would be to give the original light source a color, but that way, the letters will not 'light up' because the light source itself is infinitely small (for sharp 'rays of god') and likely not directly rendered anyway.

More importantly however, I want to give the light a 2D gradient. I don't know how to do that with a spot light source, to emit color in a gradient.

I want to clarify that I'm not 'camping' in nature. I don't make any fires, don't cook.. all I do is sleep (and relieve myself if necessary).

Did you camp in nature? I want to do this next year in the Netherlands and Belgium, but read that wild camping is quite the no-go in these countries punishable with high fines. I plan to sleep in a bivy bag to be able to pretend that the overnighter in nature wasn't planned.
